Voxijans celebrate New Years Eve in many ways. In North Voxija, Voxijans have sober pool parties, because we're in the Southern Hemisphere and it's summer! In the rest of Voxija, Voxijans have drunken pool parties, but they usually get out of the pool before someone drowns. New Years Eve, as well as New Years Day, are public holidays in some jurisdictions, mostly spread randomly throughout Voxija. And of course, the greatest Voxijan New Years tradition is gloating about how Voxija celebrates the New Year earlier than the West.

New Year's Eve (Anaey Cstiki, Анаей Чтики) is one of the most festive days in the Menneuri calendar. For the younger generations in particular, the evening is usually spent drinking alcohol and partying. One of most famous traditional celebrations of the New Year are in Näștäd, where Ak-Khib Palace is illuminated in gold and red exactly at midnight. Then, the national anthem plays over a loudspeaker system, and people gather in city squares to dance the cseyolkä, the national dance of Menneur. The most exciting modern celebration at midnight, however, would almost certainly be the extravagant light show in Csagóa, the cosmopolitan center of Menneur. Every building in the city center is fitted with LED lighting, courtesy of the city, and planning for the show typically starts in February. The light show is commonly credited as one of the new factors involved in shaping Csagóa and Menneur's venture into the modern era.

New Year's Day, however, is much more somber and traditional, as it is considered the most important day of rest. In Menneur, it is customary for members of every household to travel to the residence of their family's oldest member on the paternal side (if one's maternal grandmother or grandfather was older than their paternal grandmother or grandfather, the family would still go to the paternal grandmother or grandfather's house; if grandmother and grandfather are separated, the family travels to the grandfather's house). According to tradition, it is considered a sign of bad luck if any member of the family were to arrive at the residence after sunrise. It is customary for every member of the family to pay respects to the eldest member of the family upon arrival. In the morning, the men typically rest whilst the women help prepare a large feast for the family. In the afternoon, the men cook the food whilst the women rest. In the evening, the entire family eats together, and it is customary for every member of the family to spend the night at their relative's house.

People from Ruritane celebrate New Years Eve by getting absolutely hammered, smashing everything in sight, kissing everyone they come across, singing auld Celtic folk songs, and being glad that they celebrate the New Year earlier than Americans. People from Ruritane used to set fire to stuff, but now they don't do that.

There's a big official fireworks show in the Grand Arena in our capital of Kawton. Private fireworks are illegal in most cities. Nobody enforces that. Shooting guns in the air is also illegal, but very common.

"New Year" is translated in the Feyris language as "Beischisowen Jaonoen" or "Beginning of Year". According to historical records, New Year used to be celebrated in Feyrisshire in January 1 by the Prehistoric and Rudimentary Periods. The date of celebration during the Early Formative to the Early Refined Peiod was on January 18, one week after the celebration of the Birth of Kyrie due to an arbitrary liturgical decision.

After a Kyrieist Church liturgical reform clarifying the date of the Birth of Kyrie to January 19, Princess Aeris moved the celebration of the New Year to February 1, shortly after Epiphany moving the New Year's Eve on January 31. Hence, in the Feyris calendar, the month of January mostly belongs to the previous year, so Jan 2, 2020 today would be Jan 3, 2019 on the Feyris Calendar.

Feyris New Year coincided with the Winterspring Festival, which was a series of days of merrymaking and revelry to mark the end of fasting during Advent. However, the increasing prominence of Birth of Kyrie and the transformation of Epiphany to a joyous celebration began to overshadow the Feyris New Year and Winterspring Festival in importance, turning them into public holidays of relatively little celebration.

By the modern times, Winterspring Festival had mostly become a localized event, and Feyris New Year was relegated to being a civil event of calendrical importance. Celebrations of the New Year were marked by speeches by Communist Party leaders and the Princess and Communist processions in the capital. An ancient tradition that was retained was the hurling and throwing of rocks, logs and furniture from the second floors and balconies of houses to the floor to celebrate the coming of the new year, though this is now discouraged for obvious reasons. Though the capital New Dashime would occasionaly throw a fireworks display, fireworks and firecrackers are mostly relegated to other holidays in the year.
