Live from the Republic: Christmas Season, part 2

Christmas season continues today, and the nation is even busier than before.

In Trungking (T̆ruŋkiŋ တြုင်ကိင် 中京), restaurants are fully booked.

Image

On the other hand, the people of Pokkrau (Pókk̆rav ပို့က်းကြဝ် 北鮫) are rather pious, and hold a special service to mark this day.

Live from the Republic: Christmas Season, Aftermath

Though Christmas season is over, holidays continue into next week. Despite this, seasonal decorations are still around and people are still celebrating as usual.

In an interview of 10000 people in four major cities, Trungking (T̆ruŋkiŋ တြုင်ကိင် 中京), Daewmyin (Dą̃m̆jìn ဒါ်ႊမျိန်ႇ 大民), Cokap (Cōkáp စိုကပ်း 㑳砝), Pokkrau (Pókk̆rav ပို့က်းကြဝ် 北鮫), 65 % of the people "did not have enough of the season", and 30 % stated that they wanted the "two holiday seasons [Christmas and New Year] to merge into one".

Unlicensed medicine retailer in Daewmyin

A resident of Daewmyin, Kwangbiuk (K̆vaŋb̆jùk-S̆jéŋ Dą̃m̆jìn-Zī̌ကွင်ဗျုက်ႇသျေ့င်းဒါ်ႊမျိန်ႇဇီႉ 光復省大民市) has reported an unlicensed medicine retailer in a small community.

The retailer claimed to be "the most popular retailer in the community", but the reporting resident noticed that they had no license. When our reporters arrived at the retailer, we were denied entry into the premises.

The local authorities have shut down the premises for investigation.

Woman phones police for insufficient mobile plan

A woman from Tsokap (Cōkáp စိုကပ်း 㑳砝) called 110 because she was running out of money for her mobile phone plan, and her mobile phone was running out of battery.

The woman called the police because she was "on a trip, and couldn't contact anybody else". Nevertheless, the operator topped up 10 yuen (≈ 37.5 NSD) for her, causing a heated debate all over social media. Most people asked if the case was an offence for "wasting police resources".

However, the operator involved replied that this case was not an offence, as it is legally defined that being unable to make contact with other individuals, does in fact constitute an emergency, and that the woman was really facing difficulties at that time.

It is said that the woman, after settling and recharging her mobile phone, contacted the operator in person, and sought to pay back 10 yuen at some point, but the operator replied "no need to pay back".

Pokkrau, KT

A power outage will be planned in some rural areas of Pokkrau (Pókk̆rav ပို့က်းကြဝ် 北鮫), capital of Krautau (K̆ravtáv ကြဝ်တဝ်း 鮫島) Province. The outage will take place today (29 Dec), and will last from 9:00 pm to 9:30 pm (Western Dawetidish Time).

According to the local power provider, many users in this region have reported some problems with the service, and the outage aims to fix these problems. They assure that there are no critical services in those areas using electricity, so health and safety will not be a concern.

“Refugees” threaten terror attack, KX

Kywiiuk (K̆jvīxúk ကျွီအုက်း 龜屋) Province was threatened by a terror attack, by three individuals who claimed to be “refugees”. Kywiiuk is not a popular province among tourists, so it is unclear how they ended up here.

The three individuals went to the provincial government, demanding the “acceptance of more refugees”, and threatening an attack if it is not given.

Upon background checks, it has been found that these “refugees” had forged documents, and were sponsored terrorists by their home country. They have been arrested and are facing deportation.

Dawetid” or “Dawetidish”?
Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains the difference

In the English version of many Dawetidish websites, including official websites, we continue to see inconsistent usage of the terms “Dawetid” and “Dawetidish”. In a response to this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ŋ̆vą̃k̆ravbō̌ ငွါ်ႊကြဝ်ဗိုႉ 外交部) has explained the difference on their website:

A person of the Republic of Dawetid, is a Dawetid, or a Dawetidish person. Hence, the demonym is Dawetid, but the adjective is Dawetidish.

Over 50 website owners admitted that they made a mistake, and indicated that they will fix it promptly.

“We're in Trungking, who cares what Krautau is like?”
High school student interrupts national anthem

Today, most students return to school for a reunion after the New Year holiday, before the official school holidays start. However, today a student of Trungking Gyungwah High School (T̆ruŋkiŋ Ğjũŋvā̀ Kavt̆ruŋ တြုင်ကိင်ဂျုင်ႊဝါႇကဝ်တြုင် 中京共和高中) has sparked outrage across the nation for interrupting his class's own event of singing the national anthem.

The national anthem has a line that states:
From Trungking to Krautau's calm waters
(Zī̀ T̆ruŋkiŋ cw̄̂ K̆ravtáv b̆jèŋzěŋ-də̀ lím)
(ဇီႇတြုင်စေုႈကြဝ်တဝ်းဗျေ့င်ႇဇေ့င်ႉဒၢ့ႇလိမ်း)

At this point the student rushed to the front of the class, attempted to turn off the speakers, and spoke over the tune:
“We're in Trungking (T̆ruŋkiŋ တြုင်ကိင် 中京), who cares what Krautau (K̆ravtáv ကြဝ်တဝ်း 鮫島) is like?”

This incident was recorded and posted online by someone anonymous, and sparked outrage over people of both Trungking and Krautau. One from Krautau replied to the video:
“May all the people of Krautau come to your house, one by one, and each spit in your house, and you shall drown in there!”

The student has not been identified yet, but is said to have been placed under detention.

National Flag and Coat-of-Arms standardised

A law has been laid down that standardises the dimensions of the National Flag and Coat-of-Arms. It includes a geometrical construction guide that can be found here.

“Both the Flag and Coat-of-Arms are national symbols. If we want to look proud as a nation, we must standardise them,” says a representative from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

However, the law does not define how existing nonstandard symbols shall be processed.

Terror attack in Daewmyin by fascists,
3 killed and 10 injured

In Daewmyin City, Kwangbiuk Province (K̆vaŋb̆jùk-s̆jéŋ Dą̃m̆jìn-zī̌ ကွင်ဗျုက်ႇသျေ့င်းဒါ်ႊမျိန်ႇဇီႉ 光復省大民市), a terror attack has caused the deaths of 3 people, while 10 more were critically injured.

At the crime scene were symbols of the former fascist organisation “Unitary Monarchist Party” (Tʹûŋjít Pávvàŋ-táŋ ထုင်ႈယိတ်းပဝ်းဝင်ႇတင်း 統一保皇黨), which during World War II, was a collaborationist organisation responsible for over 5 million deaths. Today this organisation is declared unconstitutional.

President Quark Hsuan-doong (K̆vák J̆vhándùŋ ကွက်း ယွှန်းဒုင်ႇ 郭烜彤) officially condemns this aggressive behaviour, calling the criminals the “scum of the Dawetidish people”.

The criminals have been identified, though their names will be kept confidential, and will be appropriately punished.

There are over 50 dialects and minority languages in the Republic of Dawetid, and at least 10 of them are on the brink of extinction.

A survey was conducted in the affected regions, on whether this step is necessary. Over 60 % of the population replied affirmatively.

Foreigner rejected entry due to undeclared item

A foreign tourist was rejected entry into the Republic of Dawetid today because he failed to declare a biosecurity risk item.

The tourist brought 500 g of food served on the flight, but because they contain fresh meat and plants, bringing them into the nation is prohibited. Despite this, the tourist insisted that it was alright since it was cooked. When biosecurity staff informed him about the dangers, he insisted to keep it and consume it on the spot, but was intervened.

The item has been confiscated, the tourist was fined 500 yuen = 1875 NSD, and deported.

In the capital city Trungking (T̆ruŋkiŋ တြုင်ကိင် 中京), there is a parade covering the entire city against immigration.

The Republic of Dawetid has seen 30000 immigrations in the past year, but the citizens of Trungking say that this is already too much.

“They bring all kinds of bad habits, and do not contribute to our society in even one way,” one person told us.

Ministry of Education adds vowel ę to alphabet

The Ministry of Education has announced their decision to add to our alphabet, a vowel representing a recently-emerged sound in our language:
Ę ę (ေၢ)
This sound is complementary to an existing sound Ą ą (ာ်/ါ်) and will be placed after it in the alphabet, being the final vowel.

The pronunciation of ę, as described by the Ministry of Education, is “a quick combination of the vowels e and w”, just like ą is “a quick combination of a and w”.

Fonts and keyboard layouts containing this letter are now available on the website of the Ministry of Education. Educational resources are to be updated to contain this letter.

TK school:
“Abolish Traditional script”

A primary school in Trungking (T̆ruŋkiŋ တြုင်ကိင် 中京) has become controversial for refusing to teach the Traditional Dawetidish script. As our reporters walked around the school, they did not see a single sign of Traditional script, compared to other schools, where Traditional and Modern script are in approximately equal proportion.

The Traditional script is one of the official scripts for the Dawetidish language, the other being the Modern script. Throughout the Republic, the two scripts are approximately used in equal proportion, with the Modern script gaining only an advantage of 0.05 % in a survey conducted by the Ministry of Culture. According to 1000 people in Trungking alone, the Traditional script is “a sign of cultural identity”, “what makes us proud as a nation”.

However, according to the principal, the Traditional script “is useless in modern society”, “nobody uses it around here”, and “not learning it reduces the children’s workload”. Upon release of this statement, the parents of 90 % of the students, refused to let their children attend school, and according to one, “will remain so until the principal issues a statement of apology”. On the other hand, the principal threatened to “expel every student that does not turn up”.

The Ministry of Education is currently investigating this issue, and promises to compensate the families involved in the incident. The school could face closure.

“We have tolerated them too much”
Nation officially cracks down on Islam

After a series of terror attacks, the nation has officially announced to crack down on Islam.

In the past year, 99 % of crime were attributed to Islam. Despite efforts to reduce, they continue to resurge.

President Quark Hsuan-doong (K̆vák J̆vhándùŋ ကွက်း ယွှန်းဒုင်ႇ 郭烜彤) makes an announcement about this issue:
“The Dawetidish people have been very tolerant of the group [Islam]. However, we have tolerated them too much, and they are using our compassion as an excuse to strike against us. It is time to put those degenerate parasites to an end.”

By the end of the month, all existing mosques are to be either converted to other functions, or demolished.
