As the Soviet Union enters 4 years of democracy and 5 years since the first election, elections are around the corner.

Politicians are already making promises and working their way up the political ladder; and, with these being the first free elections in the USSR, they are huge.

LEADER: GENNADY ZYUGANOV

Leading party; far left to moderate left, advocates for communism as well as moderate socialism and democratic socialism, traditional "conservative" party

LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF THE SOVIET UNION


LEADER: VLADIMIR ZHIRINOVSKY

Controversial party; far right to moderate right, advocates for statism and Russian dominance in the USSR, Russian nationalism

SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF THE SOVIET UNION


LEADER: MIKHAIL GORBACHEV

Popular party, second largest in the Supreme Soviet; current president running under the SDPSU, advocates for social democracy, democratic socialism, liberalism

We like the platform of the Social Democratic Party but distrust the quality of leadership offered by Gorbachev. It might lead to the country dissolving itself. Therefore we endorse Zyuganov of the Communist Party.
