And the first exit poll for the night is in! Here’s the presidential race:
Vendorme (LPP): 28%
Liu (NDA): 21%
Misra (Prog.): 18%
Errante (Cons.): 11%
Hsieh (LU): 10%
(Others unlisted)
If these exit polls hold up, it looks like Vendorme and Liu are headed into the second round, as expected. Liu’s favored in a head-to-head matchup between the two. The Progressives, meanwhile, look as if they’re heading for their worst electoral defeat in decades, while the Socialists’ Jean-Pierre Nury suffered the indignity of not even making the top five.|⇧ UPVOTE| |⇩ DOWNVOTE| |REPLY|

The far-right populist Laeral Unbowed! candidate, Hsieh Pai-han, looks as if he’s performing worse than earlier polls said, although we should bear in mind that Laeral Unbowed!’s vote totals are usually a percentage point or two higher than polls say. People don’t want to say they’re voting for Hsieh.|⇧ UPVOTE| |⇩ DOWNVOTE| |REPLY|

Voter turnout is estimated at about 60%, slightly higher than 2014’s first round election. It’s hard to tell what this means for the election, since the NEC doesn’t release a breakdown of this statistic.|⇧ UPVOTE| |⇩ DOWNVOTE| |REPLY|

The National Election Commission website: cen.gouvernement.lr will have live updates on the nationwide popular vote as the night goes on, but I’ll periodically update here. The election website is known to be slow, and those of you who were following the liveblog in 2014 remember that the website crashed in early evening.|⇧ UPVOTE| |⇩ DOWNVOTE| |REPLY|
