Last night, in the city of Vladimir, Rurik Russia, hundreds to thousands of Russian citizens gathered at the city square;as a form of respect and tribute to the victims of the Mongolian sacking of the city in 1238.Historically, the city was among many cities in medieval Russia that once suffered the anarchy of the powerful Mongol horde.Despite numerous resistance and defense, many cities;including the city of Vladimir fell to the Mongolian control;with the city being burned heavily by the victorious conquerors. The Russian PM, Georgy Visopov said, "This gathering does indeed hold a very special place in the hearts of the people;especially those connected to the ones that suffered the destruction of the city from more than 800 years ago.All of them had valiantly fought to protect our home;but fallen heroically. It is our duty to remember their sacrifice and all".The gathering was also attended by government officials including the Tsarina;Catherine V herself, who was dressed in a full black outfit.
