Willem de Broos comes from several important families. His paternal family, the de Brooses, are famous for their own reasons (see below), but specifically he is the great grandson (via his father's mother) of Willem Jolt, an extremely wealthy lawyer from Wessland (a canton of the Republic), who grew up very poor. His grandfather on his mother's side is also Olaf Jakkers (of Helsa decent), the previous stadholder and Willem de Broos's warden.

The de Brooses of Ramsoo have ruled the island since before it was a canton and part of the Republic, back when it was a Thanedom. Every commissioner of Ramsoo since its founding as a canton has been a de Broos. It was through them that Ramsoo became a part of the Republic. They derive their name from a famous thane in Ramsoo's history that overthrew the king there. Whether they really are related is hard to be sure.

- Vincent de Broos: Willem's father. Close friend of Stadholder Jakkers, Commissioner of Ramsoo, and important proponent of the most recent attempts to integrate Helsh and Ramsane cultures together.
- Olaf Jakkers: Willem's grandfather by Olaf's daughter, Brigitta. Previous stadholder of the Republic, widely regarded as the greatest stadholder of the nation's history
- Willem Jolt: Willem's great-grandfather. Wealthy businessman and lawyer from Wessland, later Commissioner of Wessland.
- Erik de Broos: Last High Thane (Grootheen) of the Thanedom of Ramsoo, brokered the incorporation of Ramsoo into the Republic. First Commissioner of Ramsoo.
- Rogner de Broos: First de Broos crowned High Thane of Ramsoo
- Bruce of Darwick (Helsh: Broos van Darwic; Swennish: Bruus var Darvik): Semi-legendary thane from medieval times, said to be the man who killed the last Swennish king in 1365.

Napoleon V is a descendant of Napoleon I and Alexandre I, so he has a bit of French, Italian, and Polish blood in him. However, his great great great great grandfather was only the third son of Alexandre I, and his family became Kings of Scotland until the sub-Imperial Monarchs were abolished. As a result, apart from his mother's Dutch heritage, Napoleon V is mostly Scottish.

Nero Belisarius has English, Irish, Dutch, Scandinavian (Icelandic), and Native American ancestry.

Gary Scotch Barman is too intoxicated to remember where he is from, although genetic testing reveals he is half HIrelandian (Anglo-Celtic), half native HIrelandian (Scandinavian). His age is also unknown, he often claims to have been present at events that took place centuries or even hundreds of millions of years ago, but common sense would suggest that he is maybe twenty to forty.

Hannes II Rochus's ancestry is common Saxon. His unnamed progenitor arrived in New Francia (present-day Wochaystein) and was granted tithes in 1202 and continued to receive them from King Charles until his death. In 1204, at the age of 71, he was made Steward for life.

Suleiman Khan is part of the Khan dynasty, a Pashtun dynasty that governed
mainland Sharifistan on behalf of the Ottomans before becoming independent in 1919.
He is also descended from the Royal family of the Kingdom of Afghanistan (which now no longer exists being replaced by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan).

King Edmund is of German and Scottish ancestry (through his father's family) and has French and Danish ancestry from his mother.
