National Official Languages:
  • Winja (विन्ज) is the primary official language of government and the native language of approximately 26.04% of the population. It is a Para-Indo-European language (that is to say, it isn't a descendant of Proto-Indo-European, but shares a common pre-Indo-European ancestor with Indo-European languages, having diverged some 2000 years before PIE). While not the majority language, it is the language of the nobility and of the Royal Family, and all government proceedings and documents are given in Winja first.
  • Izilan (इज़िल), known to its own speakers as Tóxri (तो॔ख़्रि), is the secondary official language and is spoken natively by 53.27% of the population. It is an Indo-European Tocharic language, related to the Kroraini language spoken by our neighbours to the north in Kroraine. Despite being the language of the majority of the population, it doesn't occupy a place of prestige, and in fact for many years its speakers were repressed as second-class citizens in an act of misguided historical revanchism.
Languages that have regional official status include:
  • Hindustani (both Hindi and Urdu), which is spoken natively by 10.83% of the population, has sub-official status nationwide
  • Udic languages, a group of five closely-related varieties spoken by the Udam people. They have official status in Udamastan and are spoken natively by about 3.43% of the nation's population overall, but by more than 95% of the population in the Udamastan district. The Udic languages form a primary language family, meaning that they are not demonstrably related to any other languages in the world.
  • Tibetan, spoken by less than 1% of the population overall, holds sub-official status in some municipalities in Udamastan. There are an estimated 3,000 to 3,500 speakers of Tibetan in all of Taxarstan.

Ignoring tiny insignificant immigrant groups, the majority language is Melep, the minority language is Mattari.
Mattari is spoken in some eastern provinces, the rest of the country speaks Melep.

Both languages are part of the South Topian Language Family

However, many Luziycans are fluent in French to get around Esquarium.

We don't have an official language, but almost everyone speaks Katasian

Katasian is derived from the same Germanic language English is derived from, but as a traveling nation, there is much more influence from other languages than English has (basically, imagine English but an even bigger mess)

Different dialects and accents also exist, mostly divided by altitude

The second most common language, and most common second language, is Anglish (English with only Germanic words, normal English doesn't exist in my canon), about 20% of the population speaks Anglish as a second language, and about 10% speak it as a first

Other languages exist, but very few people speak them, and those that do usually also speak Katasian

"Vault English", also often referred to as American, Old World English, or Antique English, is a dialect spoken in the Vault that has several noticeable differences in spelling, grammar, and pronunciation as wasteland English. Vault English is closest to the English spoken before nuclear Armageddon, and is primarily spoken by organizations that have been isolated since the Great War, such as the various Vaults, the Enclave, and the West Coast chapters of the Brotherhood of Steel.

The Republic of Hongtu is a multicultural state based upon its geographic and cultural past. Currently there are 6 languages that belong to three different language families that are consitered Official by the constitution, meaning they have an official status in education and lower level governance, the "state language" or the language used in parliament and used in higher level is Gǔyǔ.
  • Gǔyǔ - 古语 - Sino-Tibetan - 26.2 million L1 speakers
  • Giam - 島文 - Austroasiatic - 7.2 million speakers
  • Bhamar - 东语 - Austroasiatic - 5.7 million speakers
  • Kitago - 北語 - Japonic - 3.3million speakers
  • Basa Rakyat - 語人 - Austroasistic - 1.09 million speakers
  • Vayatibhasa - 口語 - Dravidian - 348,000 Speakers

These languages in their diversity reflect the complex history of Hongtu. Giamese and Bhamaric are known to be the last native languages of the area and are part of the larger Talim language family that is native to the region. Around 1098 CE we see the start of massive Sinic migration to the island during a period know as the Huǐhuài Hé Qiānyí Qī (毀壞和遷移期, lit. Destruction and migration period). Several. Conflicts arose out of this and would continue for sometime afterwards, known as the Aboriginal Wars (土著戰爭//Tǔzhù Zhànzhēng). In 1319 we experianced a series of Migrations from other austroasiatic people group where Basa Rakyat became a noticable language in the south of the country. In 1529 the island saw invasion and attempted colonization from japonic peoples in the north.

The Umihito-Gǔrén War lasted from 1529 to 1542 and saw the failure of the invaders to effectively colonize the island but the establishment of northern Omoryōdo. These entities were absorbed into the first singular political entity on the Island, the Luánméng in 1675. In 1817 europeans arrived and quickly came into conflict with the Luánméng. Their army was nearly whiped out during the Siege of Mìhuāshān. Colonization was finalized in 1821 and lasted until 1954. During this time indentured servants of dravidian origin were brought over to work of Tea and Rice plantations between 1825 and 1916. These people spoke multiple dravidian languages a natural creole and sythasis of the related languages began to form in order for communication amongst workers. Thus the Vayatibhasa language came into being over many decades and generations of development. After. Colonization and the establishment of the Republic English remained a official language until 1962.

Spanish & English are both primary languages for the nation.
With 85% of the populace speaking English, primary or secondary, and approximately 50% of the population speaking Spanish as a primary or secondary. Portuguese & French are regionally accepted as official languages in certain locations around Forlania.
The primary reason for such a hodgepodge of language is due to many of the original slaves brought to different islands by the Carlton family prior to the formation of Forlania having come from different locations in South America. Often those from Brazil would be taken to Peqoud Island, New French Guiananese taken to Trew, etc.

The Elyreian language is broken into four dialects.

The most prolific variant of Elyreian is colloquially referred to as Volarian, as it is the dialect and accent used in the Greater Volarian Metropolitan Area, which includes the Volarian district, the Inner Elyreian district's cities of Kynazport, Kaevarberg, Moreia, and Mantyris cities and their accompanying suburbs. It is also the dialect most commonly found when speaking to persons of rank, or authority, particularly in the military or politics.

Sterion is the dialect mostly localized to Outer Elyreia and parts of northern Inner Elyreia, commonly centralized in the only major Outer Elyreian cities of Illysterion and Pointe Torhed. Sterion features more contractions in the language that are non-standard, and is spoken more quickly than other dialects.

Kandrian is a dialect located entirely within Southern Elyreia, predominantly spoken in the cities of Hykandria and Kyrasberg. The dialect is spoken with more ambiguity in regards to gender, with the feminine and masculine identifiers of -o and -a replaced with gender neutral -e. Ships with a predominantly Kandrian-speaking crew are often allowed to rename their ships to gender-neutral terms, as they view gendered ships to be bad luck.

Kastareian is the last dialect that is located entirely on the island of Kastareia, centered on Port Kaerys on the northeastern coast of the island. The dialect is considered “colonial” as it is spoken by most explorers and career pioneers. The dialect includes numerous slang terms or colloquial phrases that are used in lieu of, or replacements for, standard Elyreian words or phrases.

The language itself is phonetic in its spellings, and is, essentially, Valyrian. For example, the official name of the nation is Dārilarostegun Elyreia, for Principality of Elyeria (lit. The Prince's Lands of Elyreia)

In Tanuki-chan, the official languages are English and Japanese, both of which are spoken by the majority of the population (54,890,200, out of 55 million people speak English, while it is slightly more for Japanese, being 54,890,500).

The rest of the population speaks various other languages, which have arrived in our borders due to immigration from other countries in the region. Most of these come from isolated communal villages near the borders of other nations, so they have not been integrated anywhere else. They will be listed by where they originated in the region.
People who speak Hungarian and Romanian (both of which only have about 10,000 speakers) originate from Matikaneland (Romanian and Hungarian) and the Rice Shower State (Romanian only).
People who speak Italian originate from Vinnys Italian Manhattan (around 5,0000). They are the largest minor language group in the country with a few towns around their general area having things written in Italian as well as English and Japanese. The Italian spoken in Tanuki-chan is a slightly different dialect to the Italian spoken in Vinnys Italian Manhattan, like all other Italian dialects in our region, with the difference being that people who speak the dialect sometimes borrow words from Japanese to form new words.
There are 3,000 speakers of "Tanukian" (Tanuski). It is based on Caracalian (Caraski), which is a language that originated in Caracalia State. An example would be "Isi no da Sulisek, da Motus Kahin", or "Not either for Freedom or for Death". It apparently came from a group of Caracalian speakers who tried to incorporate English and Japanese loanwards into their language, but didn't understand how either language worked, with this being the result.
There are 100,000 combined speakers of Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish, who came here from Joels Swedish Skeleton Land.

German is the official / legal language of Oberstetten. Regional variations, grammatical peculiarities and word choice vary by region, but all dialects are mutually intelligible, despite what Northerners might claim about Southerners, and Easterners about Westerners, etc.

Russian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian and Romanian are minority languages spoken by large numbers of bilinguals and pockets of ethnic minorities, though they are not recognized as national languages by the government.

German.
The official language of Lillorainen is German, spoken fluently by 99%+ of the population. The Lillorainian variant of German is notable for being slightly affected by its dialects and minority languages, as well as following basically Swiss-inspired spelling rules (no 'ß' letter, digit blocks of high numbers separated by apostrophes, etc.).
The German dialects spoken are, sorted in descending order by their prevalence:
Low German (as spoken at the Lower Rhine, Ruhr area, Westphalia, etc.).
Ripuarian (as spoken in Cologne, Aachen, Eifel).
Low German (as spoken in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein; partially also like the Bremen/Oldenburg area variant).
Various Creole languages of these variants and minority languages.
Regardless of linguistic accuracy (Ripuarian is considered Middle German), all these variants are called Low German (Niederdeutsch, or simply Platt). It is a co-official language in five out of nine federated states, therefore officially recognized as a full language.
Almost all people in the Federation are capable of understanding it, and most of its native speakers use it for everyday life communication.

Scandinavian languages.
Especially in Eastern Lillorainen, many people speak Danish or Swedish, preferrably mixed dialects of both, as prevalent in the Copenhagen/Malmö area.
Both languages are co-official languages in four states.
Due to the overwhelming prevalence of Norse Paganism, Old Norse is used often within religious context.

Serbo-Croatian.
A notable minority language is Serbo-Croatian/"Yugoslavian" - co-official language in three states.
The common variants are, again sorted in descending order by their prevalence:
Ekavica (as spoken in most areas of Serbia).
Ijekavica (as spoken in Croatia, BiH, Montenegro, southwestern Serbia).

Finno-Ugrian languages.
Finnish (contrary to widespread belief, not a Nordic language) and Hungarian (contrary to widespread belief, not a Slavic language) are occasionally spoken in the Islands; both are co-official language in two states respectively.

Greek ("Theban").
Spoken in one particular area and therefore co-official language in one state.

Creole languages.
Aside from the aforementioned Low German Creole forms, there are also two major creoles, with numerous variants, which are co-official languages in respectively three states.
Those are:
Abyadi (an Arabic-influenced language with a high level of influence of Germanic and Slavic languages).
Saareti (a Finno-Ugrian creole, again much influenced by other, more widespread languages).
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

The official language of Nhoor, Nhoor, is probably an isolate with no certain relations to other languages, apart from some loan words. Nhoor is the only official language of the Dominion of Nhoor and as such it is spoken by the far majority of the nation. A standardised version of the language was made in the early 1800s.

The Nhoor language is an ergative language, meaning that the form of verbs depends on the subject of intransitive sentences and on the object of transitive sentences. Nhoor has no plural forms; if plural should be emphasised, numbers or words like 'many' are used. Nhoor has a duodecimal counting system, which means that instead of 10, 100, 1000, Nhoor count to 12, 144, 1728 etc.

Nhoor uses the western alphabet but with two additional signs (ɵ to indicate a short ò as in 'hot', and ƨ to indicate ts as in 'its'), a breve that can be put on vowels to alter their sounds, and a diacritical comma which can be put under a vowel to indicate that the sound starts with a y- sound: e /ay/, e̦ /yay/. These commas are not rendered correctly under the vowel everywhere on NS, so an alternative spelling exists that replaces the breves by acute accents and the commas by preceding y's.

A short grammar can be found here
