What are the speed limits on YN's highways?

Postby Agarntrop » Tue Oct 23, 2018 8:39 am

^
The national limit for built up areas in Agarntrop are 50 km/h (31 mph), but are often 30 km/h (18 mph) near schools or on small back streets. The normal limit on undivided rural roads is 90 km/h (56 mph), but are often lower and can occasionally be 100km/h (62 mph) in special circumstances. The national limit on divided highways is 110 km/h (68 mph), but is often lower. Finally, the normal limit on freeways is 120 km/h (75 mph), but can often be lower and 130 km/h (81 mph) in special circumstances.

We don't really have "highways." The Great Flare pretty much knocked out all infrastructure, and many roads are crumbling. For the ones that remain, however, the speed limit is typically 75 MPH on main arteries going from one urban center to another, and 80MPH on other country highways.

Municipal roads: 60 km/h (may be lowered to 40 or raised to 80 by municipalities).
Country roads:
State Roads: 80 to 120 km/h (varies by state).
Federal Roads: 100 to 120 km/h (depending on buildout).
Federal Highways: no limit.
Equivalents of Federal Highways with Federal Road or State Road numbering: no limit.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

In Shamsiyya, there is a limit of 60 km/h within built-up areas and 90 km/h outside. On highways, there are no speed limits - however, there aren't really many highways outside the metropolitan areas.
Generally speaking, speed limits are rather poorly enforced, and road rules in general are hardly more than a friendly recommendation.

Arthropol's highways have variable speed limits, depending on the type of vehicle and the weather conditions. I have created a table, including speed limits for roads other than highways

Table of speed-limited roads. On autoroutes, the minimum speed limit is 60 km/h unless marked otherwise. Weather speed limits apply in cases of extreme weather (see last two rows). They do not apply if already limited lower.

Non speed-limited autoroutes (weather speed limits apply in extreme weather conditions, see above). Minimum speed is 60 km/h, unless marked otherwise.

There are many exceptions to these, for example many roads are marked with different speed limits. For example, the Arthropol City Ring autoroute is capped at 100 km/h.

Each province sets its own speed limits by road and vehicle type. For example, heavy goods vehicles are usually limited to 100 km/h on roads where cars and motorcycles are permitted to travel up to 130 km/h.

In all provinces but one, the speed limit on controlled-access highways (usually known as “motorways” in Neragua) is 130 km/h. In Aisen the speed limit is 120 km/h on motorways.

Dual carriageways (or “divided highways”) are usually 110 or 120 km/h, province dependent.

Single careiagesway (or “undivided highways”) are usually 90 to 100 km/h, province dependent.

Rural roads are usually 60 to 90 km/h, province dependent.

Urban roads are usually 30 to 50 km/h, province dependent.

Max speed: 100 mph (161 kmh) on the Big Road. That's a huge freeway going through most of the open land. Doing that speed is still not recommended due to the herds of antelope that are literally EVERYWHERE.
Other roads range greatly depending on the type. A tiny dangerous road might be 10 mph (17 kmh), a neighborhood road 20 mph (32 kmh), a small highway 65 mph (105 kmh), and a big highway between that and 90 mph (145 kmh).
In addition, night speed limits (lowered speed limit after sunset) are often posted in very wooded/animal-populated regions.

Some of our largest highways (connecting major cities like Daiychaz and Kourgale) have speed limits of 100 MPH or more in their innermost lanes. An Autobahn-style no speed limit has been tested in areas but it was scrapped since having insane people driving 250 mph in supercars down the everyday highway could lead to some nasty accidents.

Given that no one wants to go outside, because Excalibus is the coldest average country, highways have a speed limit of 110.

There are no speed limits on freeways. On city high ways, people are restricted to 40 miles per hour unless in circumstances of schools and residential areas. In rural and isolated areas, things are exempted.

There are no speed limits on highways. However, this doesn't mean you can't be given a speeding ticket. If you, for example, are travelling substantially faster than the speed of traffic, or too quickly for conditions (ex. going 100mph in a blizzard), you will probably get a ticket. Sure, the subjective nature of the law means you can probably appeal it in court and win, but here just the shame of being ticketed will prevent people from speeding.

In towns, however, there are limits, for the purposes of protecting pedestrians and keeping accidents at intersections from being too severe.

As all motor vehicles in our nation are self-driving, there are officially almost no speed limits in existence anymore. Instead all vehicles are programmed to travel at appropriate speeds based around the current conditions such as traffic, weather, and the general location of the vehicle. (Vehicles will drive at higher speeds automatically on highways vs local roads, for instance)

However, near schools, all vehicles are programmed to drive at no faster than 30 km/h, which functions as a de facto speed limit.

On federally-run highways that cross prefecture lines, speeds are unlimited for all traffic 10 km outside of a major city. Once within 10 km, all vehicles must slow down to 140 kph, within 5 km, 120 kph, and within 1, 100 kph. Prefectures, localities, and municipalities are free to set their own limits. Prefecture highways on average have limits of 120 kph, but some larger more rural ones can also have unlimited speeds, along with rules for slowing down when approaching a population center.
Wait an hour, and it will be now again

The law about speed limit is decided by the Confederal Law no. 12/2023 on "Speeds limit in the Alingan Road Network", the law permit to lowering speed limits permately in certain traits due the road condition, traffic, (ex. canton Alinghi is city-canton, and due the high level of traffic due to be a Federal Capital the speed limits is of 100 Km/h ) , or temporary in all road in the canton for weather condition (ex. if predicted snow or in the road is present snow the canton lower the speed limit to at max 100 - 120 km/h ultil the snow will disappear)

There are no such things in Victorious Decepticons. You can run as fast as your servos will move you.

Note that when a Decepticon runs, it is not like when some puny human does it. We're talking moving 10 tons of metal in the form of a giant war robot. Speeds can easily exceed 250 MPH for someone who has built his body for quickness, and around 110 MPH for the average Meltdown.

Still, having laws for "safety" is for wimps. If you want to win your Darwin, we won't stop you. That said, if someone thinks you're about to crash into him, his response will generally be to open fire, so it's best to make sure that your navigation/maneuvering module can keep up with your speed before you decide to try running around in a populated area.

Or, you can do what most Decepticons do when they want to get somewhere fast: Fly there in plane mode like a sane person.
