The President is elected by the Parliament, who usually vote according to a referendum- however, a few may vote differently.

We use mail ballots to decide our House Representatives every year (basically our MP's), but slowly online voting is being phased in to reduce paper waste for non-voters.

For Head of State votes that occur once ever 4 years, we still use in person voting at polling booths (except for 2020, for obvious reasons) but the idea of online voting is being considered.

Every fiscal year, candidates for membership in the State Board of Associates are first nominated via sortition by one hundred members of each social sector, then negotiated between the sector leaders and the State Board of Supervisors. In the event of deadlock, a Chief Associate pro tempore ("caretaker") is likewise randomly appointed to the SBA by the SBS while sortition takes place again (a popular joke is that the caretaker is there only to prevent the sitting Associates from killing each other for the duration). Retired Associates are barred from future nomination.

Before the coup it was an elected representative who served four year terms, but since then its been in a military junta as a transitional government. However, its been in this transition for almost five years.
The current leader was self-appointed. In the event the leader dies the leader's son is meant to take power, however this is only an emergency scenario as the government has been working on a proper transfer of power.

Head of state de jure

Stormaen is a Commonwealth Realm, sharing its head of state – since 1952 being Queen Elizabeth II – with 16 other countries. The office is a legally distinct entity in each nation, so that the Queen in Stormaen is legally known as the Queen of Stormaen. The monarchy is hereditary and is, therefore, unelected with the heir or heiress to the throne becoming the next monarch with the demise (death) or abdication of the previous holder.

As mentioned above, Stormaen shares its Queen (though she has a legally distinct office in each country) as head of state with 16 other Commonwealth Realms. Therefore, not being typically resident in Stormaen, the monarch appoints a representative to serve in her place and fulfil her constitutional role. This representative is the Governor-General of Stormaen (note: the title does not change to Governoress-General if the holder is female). Like the monarchy, the office of Governor-General is not elected but rather appointed by the Queen based on the recommendation of the government. While the Queen is the de jure head of state, in practice the Governor-General is the de facto head of state; though like the Queen, the Governor-General always acts on the advice of the government of the day.

Being a parliamentary democracy, the head of government in Stormaen is the Prime Minister of Stormaen. As in all Westminster systems, the Prime Minister is politically the most powerful position in the country. The Prime Minister is not directly elected per se but rather is appointed by the Queen (via her Governor-General) based on whom she believes can "command the confidence" of the House of Assembly (the sole house of Stormaen's unicameral parliament). There are no term limits on being prime minister and an incumbent remains in office so long as they maintain majority support (hence "command the confidence") in the House.

The Lawgiver is formally His Excellency, the Chancellor of the Commonwealth of Haven, but he is also known as Father Mark, the Master, the Lawgiver, and the Prophet, to signify his leadership of the Church of Haven as well as his headship of government and state. He has modeled his church heavily after the Latter-Day Saints, but without their pernicious doctrines, using offices such as "priest" and "elder" rather freely. The Lawgiver is alleged to be the biological son of the Archangel Gabriel and to be in regular communication with the King of Heaven as well as many angels. He is also rumored to have been slain and resurrected shortly before Doomsday, possessing a "celestial" rather than a mortal body now.

Wetland is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy whereby the Queen of Wetland (Keningin fan Wetland) is the head of state and the Prime Minister of Wetland (Eerste Minister fan Wetland) is the head of government.
