The Queen becomes monarch when the old leader dies. Usually, the Queen selects her favored heir, who becomes Queen or King when the old leader dies. Power struggles are surprisingly uncommon.

The Prime Minister is chosen by the Queen from the leaders of the major parties. Everyone criticizes this system as too limited.

The only main requirement to become Imperator is to be a member of the House of Arcadia and a former Imperator's child. Well, there is an established line of succession in place that follows the absolute primogeniture system, this does that completely confirm someone as heir to the throne. What does however is confirmation from the Senate, with them following and using the requirements above and examining the merits of possible successors is how they select an heir once an Imperator dies. And well they usually follow the line of succession, the Senate has been known in times of emergency or other situations to place an Imperator on the throne without using information from the line of succession but rather appointing someone who would be best for the current situation and hope for the best in the future.

Head of State: Per law and custom of the realm, both houses of the parliament elects the Federal President of the Realm, which is usually the Emperor/Empress of Auzkhia. However, one becomes the imperial monarch by being from the House of Habsburg-Lorraine and the Federal Council of States confirming you as the heir apparent. The Realm is an elective monarchy and crowned republic. Since a monarch from the Archduchy of Auzkhia leads the federation.

Head of government: the Federal Chancellor is usually the head of the governing party in the imperial diet and to be elected as chancellor requires a motion of confidence, this follows the largest party, since if your coalition wins the most seats in the House of Deputies, you command a motion of confidence and then the Emperor, as president of the Reich, officially appoints you as Chancellor, and the Vice-Chancellor is the head of a junior party in the coalition, though there can be many vice-chancellors and sometimes they are co-official. Coalition governments are the norm since no one party usually wins an absolute majority but a plurality, due to our proportional representation.

Officially, the Prime Minister of the North American Union holds the office of General Treasurer, which is nominated by the Grand Council for the President-General's approval. In Westminster political practice, the PG approves the nominee that commands the confidence of the Grand Council, to be General Treasurer and hence the Prime Minister.

The President-General is nominated by the Prime Minster and Cabinet for the Crown to appoint, as a formality. President-Generals tend to serve 8 years, but the current President-General, the 9th Earl of Hudson, intends to only serve for 4 years.

The leader is chosen from the most fit to serve, for example if the Supreme Leader dies and she has children, it'll be passed down to her eldest.

The Emperor rules for life. He or she is only replaced upon death, serious illness, resignation or other similar circumstances. There are impeachment-like procedures but they require monumental support and very specific circumstances.

When choosing a new Emperor, special State Congresses are called around Glakta. In these congresses, citizens that have passed a General Aptitude Test (GAT), formally citizens with aristokratos status, debate and select the new Emperor among all aristokratos citizens. Of note is the fact that the GAT also includes ideological content.

The rule of the Emperor is tied to his or her aristokratos status, but generally it can be kept indefinitely and hence is expected that the Emperor will rule for life.

At the time, Red Eye rules with an iron fist. The only way to gain power would be a political coup, but that would be almost impossible. When he dies, the leader will be chosen b combat between the top three generals.

Hereditary. If the Grand Duke/Duchess has only one heir, the crown automatically goes to that heir. If there are multiple heirs, the Grand Duke/Duchess can choose which one the crown goes to. If none of the heirs are identified as the successor, the crown goes to the oldest one. If the Grand Duke/Duchess dies without heirs, the Grand-Ducal Council elects a successor.

The Ceannaire is elected by the Seanad and holds their position for life or until they resign. Since the Seanad is elected by direct universal suffrage it could be argued the Ceannaire is indirectly elected through a form of electoral college. Once the Ceannaire either passes away or resigns the Seanad convenes for debate on who should be elected as a successor. Until such a time a successor can be elected the Taoiseach (the Prime Minister/Speaker of the Seanad) assumes the duties of the Ceannaire as needed. Citizens aged eighteen and older who do not hold a position of importance in a religious organization are eligible for election. The Seanad sets the rules for debate, conducts said debate, and then holds a vote on whom should succeed. A two-thirds majority is needed for a candidate to be elected. Should no clear winner emerge, the two candidates with the highest amount of votes are then voted on in a second round in which a two-thirds majority is once again needed. Should no clear winner emerge from the second round then the matter is brought before the Supreme Court, who then chooses the successor from among the two candidates. The successor then assumes office immediately, forms a government with a Taoiseach, and boom goes the dynamite.

The King or Queen of Terabithya chooses his/her heir while on power. This is usually someone from the Monarch's family or if they have no family anymore, the Lord/Lady Chancellor. But the Monarch can appoint anyone. The heir becomes Monarch when the former Monarch dies or abdicates. So the Kingdom of Terabithya is circa a hereditary monarchy.

Local elections at the province, city and county level establish members of the Representative Assembly (representatieve vergadering).

The Prime Minister is then selected from the assembly by a vote of the members.

Each voter gets two votes for the House elections, one vote to decide their local representative and another to vote for a party. 200 seats of the House are elected locally via a (somewhat complicated) ranked choice voting system, the remaining 200 seats are assigned to parties based on the proportion of the national votes they received (parallel voting system, not mixed-member proportional). The House then elects a Chief Executive with a simple majority. Representatives serve four year terms.

There are Senate elections too, where every two years each state gets to elect a senator (ranked choice voting system) to serve a single twenty year term (each state thus gets 10 senators). The Senate elects a Secretary of the Senate via a simple majority vote, who has many powers, so while the Chief Executive is the de jure head of state and government, it could be argued that the Wizlandian executive branch is more of a diarchy in practice.

We are a Republic. Our head of state is the President of the Republic and our head of government is the Prime Minister, or known as the Premier, officially the First Minister of the Executive Council.

Our president is directly elected in a two round instant runoff vote. Elections take place every 5 years and have term limits of two. The role of president is ceremonial. It used to be elected by a joint parliamentary session of the Senate and National Assembly. Direct elections were approved after the socialists enacted it. Our current president is an independent Charles Napoleon de Bonaparte, he was a prince and descendant of the last Emperors of the French and Napoléon I, but he was skipped over by his family to be head of their dynasty, so he embraced the socialist republic, renounced his claim, and used his broad appeal to become a populist to all, uniting both progressive and conservative elements in the people.

The Prime Minister is indirectly elected through parliamentary elections that take places every 5 years. The leader of the largest party or coalition becomes the prime minister and the president asks the premier to form government and makes them officially the head of government and cabinet. There are no term limits for premier or any representative of the national assembly. The Premier has much more power than the president, as is typical for most parliamentary democracies and republics, we do not use a presidential system, as that was abolished after the far right Nationalist French State fell. Our prime minister is Valérie de Gouges, who is the leader of the Socialist Party in the national assembly and thus became prime minister.

All executive candidates are required to run as independents and cannot receive any form of sponsorship from any organization of sorts.

The president is elected after, at most, two rounds of votes. The first consists of all candidates and will run for two weeks. If a candidate accumulated more than half the vote, they are declared president. If none accumulated more than half the vote, a run-off between the top two candidates will begin immediately and end in 1 week.

The Bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch gets appointed by the Pope. However, the cathedral chapter, as representatives of the diocesan clergy, have to submit a list of three acceptable candidates (which list is called a terna) to the Roman authorities. The Pope usually chooses one of the candidates from that list and it is a sign of distrust when he appoints someone else.

The President is formally elected by the Colonial Convention which takes place once every ten years. Each of the forty colonies and seven territories get one vote, cast officially by the Governors at the Convention but in reality predetermined by the electorate of each colony & territory a week before it begins. The vote in each colony & territory runs using a two-round system, in which all but the top two candidates are eliminated before a second round of voting determines the overall winner in each colony or territory

The First Minister is elected by the members of the Assembly and confirmed by the President. By convention they are the leader of the largest party in the legislature, but this is not required and convention has been broken several times in the past. The Assembly is a four-hundred person strong chamber, with each colony having ten representatives - territories don't have any Assembly representatives as they have full control over their internal affairs. Assembly elections take place every five years. Each colony acts as a single constituency, with its ten representatives being elected using a system of proportional representation based on the vote across the whole colony

All adult (18+) men and women are eligible to vote, with turnouts hovering between 45% & 55% in each election

Monarch: Chosen as a successor by the previous Monarch. Tradition dictates that this "heir" is then "approved" by the Parliament.

Prime Minister: Their is a vast and esoteric process to electing a Prime Minister. Virtually any Imperial citizen can put themselves forward to become a candidate for Prime Minister. Individual Subsectors elect their own "candidate" who then go up against candidates from other Subsectors in a "Sector Election". The Parliament then reviews each "Sector Candidate" and identifies a select few of them. Those selected by the Parliament become official "Prime Minister Candidates". People all across the Empire vote for their preferred "Prime Minister Candidate" and the candidate with the most votes becomes the new Prime Minister.

Lord Chancellor: The Parliament elects it's own Lord Chancellor. Although anyone in the Empire can be Lord Chancellor, the Parliament typically chooses one of their own.
