Tipping is not considered mandatory in most circumstances in Great Nortend, but rather recommended for good service. Tips are generally in value between one penny and sixpence. Any lower is considered disrespectful and any higher can be construed as boastful. People whom are customarily offered tips for good service include waiters, waitresses, barbers, surgeons, cabriolet-drivers, travel agents and shoe-shiners. For those people who work at hotels and other such institutions where doormen and porters are kept and provided, a tip is generally expected, between a shilling and a crown, depending on the physical exertion required.

In Lanzio tipping is fairly common. If you're a service worker in any customer-facing job (of course this is fairly rare now, thanks to automation) you have a 50/50 chance of being tipped by your customer. This is especially the case for service workers who work for rich clients - part of the appeal of having a real human serve rather than a bot is to show that you can afford it; essentially it's a display of wealth. Such wealthy clients often make a great show of tipping the workers as part of this display

Tipping is generally frowned upon in Vedastia and is generally considered to be an insult.

The only people that are tipped in our nation are prostitutes; it is not done anywhere else.

In restaurants, the price on the menu is what you pay. It is illegal for a restaurant to add a hidden survive charge to the bill, but the restaurant may add one if the customer is clearly informed of the charge. However, as the vast majority of the servers at restaurants are robots, and we have an opt-in capitalist system* (ensuring that servers are paid adequately), tips are not needed.

*Citizens can choose to opt-in to capitalism in our nation, so people can simply leave an undesirable job without having to worry about survival, as the government provides all citizens with the necessary food, water, shelter, etc.

We are a secluded and technologically advanced nation that cares for its human citizens, but does not allow them into major positions of power over others. Our research has shown that allowing humans to rule over other humans can cause unacceptable results. Instead, a network of intelligent computer systems makes all major government decisions.

Tipping was once rare in Stormaen but has become increasingly commonplace over the last few decades. Unlike the rest of North America where tipping is a percentage, tipping in Stormaen usually involves rounding (e.g. rounding up the nearest $5). This is because it doesn’t form and integral part of service staff’s wages in Stormaen. In other words, a waitress’ wage cannot be below minimum wage and made up for with money from tips.

A far more controversial practice is companies keeping or pooling tips. There is pressure mounting for a law ensuring that tips go to the staff as intended.

Tipping is legal that's why it's enforced that businesses don't take proceeds to share. Minimum wage is enforced in waiters and u see hotter waiters getting tips leaving uglier waiters working twice as hard for half as much. Feminists r trying to circumvent this by outlawing tipping but the leader says it makes dining less boring for restaurants experience

Tipping is usual in the Federation of Lillorainen just as a thank-you for good service. The most common way is rounding up to full Marks - it isn't necessary, though, in a way that waiters/waitresses were in a need of the extra cash, since they are paid quite well in general, but it's highly recommended.

Restaurant tax isn't higher than usual sales tax.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

Here, tipping is done about 50% of the time, although service staff never have to depend on tips to survive. The law is that everyone makes minimum wage from their employer (15 USD an hour), and tips are just a bonus. The size of the tip depends on many factors: individual income level, quality of service, and type of establishment. A person just making minimum wage him/herself never has to tip, and won't be hassled for not tipping. A rich person, on the other hand, should tip, usually generously. Another thing is that the tip isn't calculated as a certain percent of the total cost of the bill. Rather, it's calculated based on the amount of time the waiter/waitress spent on the table. An average tip for a nice dinner might be anywhere from 2 Sand Dollars (4USD) to 15 Sand Dollars (30USD).

This is all different for tourists, however. Although tourists aren't required to tip, it is seen as impolite for a tourist not to tip. Usually, a tip guide will be provided when the bill is brought out. Tourists generally tip 2-3 SD (4-6USD) on a normal meal, and 5SD (10USD) on an expensive meal. Although the government doesn't officially impose a tourist tax or a mandatory tip for tourists, it threatens to if tourists stop tipping adequately.

Tipping is mandatory in Brystolville for all of the following classes of workers:

  • Restaurant waitstaff
  • Catering staff
  • Prostitutes
  • Baristas and café cashiers
  • Airline stewards
  • Cab drivers
  • Couriers and Delivery drivers
  • Hairstylists and beauticians
  • Auto and bicycle mechanics
  • Plumbers
  • Vendors at football stadiums
  • Parking valets and parking garage cashiers
  • Hotel staff
  • Photographers
  • Massage therapists
  • Sandwich artists
Not tipping at least 20% on a bill of under £200 is punishable by a fine of 50% or one day in jail. Not tipping at least 10% on a bill of over £200 is punishable by a fine of 25-50% of the bill at a judge's discretion or up to one week in jail. In Greater Brystolville, there is a 15% minimum on bills of £200 or more. It is illegal ("tip theft") for an employer or manager to withhold or dock tips from their employees, and this is punishable by loss of a managerial and/or business licence and up to 5 months in jail.

All workers in Brystolville must be paid at least a full minimum hourly wage, and tipped workers do not depend on tips to survive in Brystolville, which has a strong social safety net and many protections for service workers. Mandatory tipping laws exist because Parliament recognises that these jobs are extremely high-stress, underpaid, and face social stigma and discrimination; and because Parliament hopes to empower young people and improve quality of life for the working class.
