Pre– and Post–Apocalyptic Ages of the Planet Earth

Postby Democratic Communist Federation » Mon Sep 03, 2018 10:22 am

Back in the pre–apocalyptic age of the planet Earth, the beloved revolutionary Marxist martyr and secular Jewish heroine Rosa Luxemburg (German), Róża Luksemburg (Polish), Róży Luksemburg (Polish), Rōzạh bạṯ ʾĔliyyāhū (Hebrew, רוֹזַה בַּת אֱלִיָּהוּ), Rʾọsʾạ bạṯ ʾĔliyyāhū (Yiddish, ראָסאַ בּ‬ֶן אֱלִיָּהוּ), Rūzaẗ ʾib°naẗ ⫰Iy°liyā (Arabic, رُوزَة اِبْنَة إِيْلِيَا), Rūzah duẖ°tar–i ʾIl°ýās (Persian, رُوزَه دُخْتَرِ اِلْیَاس), Roza duxtar–i Iljos (Tajik, Роза духтари Илёс), or Red Rosa (German, rote Rosa; or Polish, rudy Rosa) was the daughter of Eliasz (Polish) and Liny (Polish). At only 48–years old, Rosa became a secular martyr. She was assassinated by a rifle in Berlin, Germany, on January 15ᵗʰ, 1919 PR (Pre–Apocalypse). Eight years nine months later, my father was born on September 24ᵗʰ, 1919 PR.

Immediately after Earth’s nuclear holocaust, the majority of the developed world, sentient creatures and physical structures alike, evaporated or incinerated in an instant. The Americas, Eurasia, and large swaths of Africa were thoroughly demolished. Japan, Oceania, and the Caribbean were submerged by tsunamis or destroyed in the blight of nuclear fallout. A catastrophic nuclear winter persisted for centuries. Numerous small pockets of people, residing in the more farflung regions of the world, somehow managed to miraculously survive deep inside caverns and tunnels. Sadly, given the absence of available resources, the very old, the very young, and the physically and intellectually disabled were among the first to perish. The heroic efforts undertaken to save their lives were generally unsuccessful. We damn humans caused this devastation in the first place.

Over a period persisting for hundreds upon hundreds of years, many communities discovered one another. Even those groups which descended from locations speaking the same languages often had difficulties communicating. The separation had simply continued too long. Anyway, given human ingenuity, that obstacle was eventually overcome. Records and artifacts of the pre–apocalyptic period were slowly but surely found. Some were largely destroyed beyond recognition, but, gratefully, a few were still reasonably intact. They were taken as rough guidelines, as the process of building a new civilization slowly began. This time, however, capitalism and imperialism, the twin causes of the apocalypse, were repudiated in favor of Rosa’s democratic libertarian communism. A new age, the initiation of a protracted and tangled journey, had, at long last, commenced.

Thousands of years then transpired post–apocalypse (PO), and first contact with extraterrestrials was ultimately made. Eventually, The United Federation of Libertarian Communist Planets was founded. We are currently, as this essay is being written, still in the age prior to the dawn of the apocalypse. Preparations for the end of days can, possibly, be made. Therefore, in Red Rosa’s storied tradition, UFLCP struggles for a libertarian communist pentad: Marxism–Luxemburgism, the Autonomist Antifa movement, the heterodox third–camp neo–Trotskyist socialism from below (subsequently adopted by proponents of other tendencies), Bhaskarian critical realism, and, finally, intersectionality:

Libertarian Communist is an oxymoron.

Only in the U.S.

Communists were using the term for 100 years before it was appropriated by the American right.

You don't really have much autonomy in a collectivist society.

1919. Okay. Because people had nukes in 1919. I'm very confused.

1919 is when the character, Rosa Luxemburg, was shot, not when the nukes were used. That date is not specified in the story.

It's almost impossible to discuss your story without mentioning politics because your story promotes your political ideology.

It is possible to discuss the story without discussing the politics of the author. If you personally can't do that, then it is likely unwise to engage with the story.

I am not familiar with the rules governing this section of the forum. However, I will speak in the person of Mōšẹh ʾẠhărōn hạ-Lēwiy bẹn Hẹʿrəšẹʿl (Hebrew, מֹשֶׁה אַהֲרֹן הַלֵוִי בֶּן הֶערְשֶׁעל), my persona for this nation (actually all three of my nations). As Mōšẹh, I am a libertarian communist or, more specifically, a Luxemburgist (a follower of the Polish-German communist Rosa Luxemburg). I have actually been a communist since 1968, since joining the New Left. I am now 62 years old (making me among the older members of NationStates). I started out as a libertarian communist. I then became, in order, a Titoist, a Third-World Maoist, Trotskyist (international socialism and third-camp socialism), and ultimately a Luxemburgist. I was raised in a fairly typical nonobservant Jewish family in New York City. (Most Jews in NYC are nonobservant.) However, I have lived in Kansas since 1993. I am also a Marxist sociologist (a full professor of sociology) at a college in the Kansas City suburbs.

I suppose I will respond to additional questions as Mōšẹh ʾẠhărōn hạ-Lēwiy bẹn Hẹʿrəšẹʿl (my actual Jewish name).

Speaking as Mōšẹh ʾẠhărōn hạ-Lēwiy bẹn Hẹʿrəšẹʿl, I will say that one of the major tendencies in libertarian Marxism is autonomist Marxism. I would argue that autonomy is impossible without communism.
