As We take into consideration, the continued and diligent work of Our Highest Valued Counsellor, His Excellency Pedersen, whose Union Party cooperates in a cabinet with the Herrebrugher Liberals and the Party for the Democratisation of the State, since the year 2013, and the insistence of the Chamber of the Realm of Our General Council to, in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of the Herrebrugh Islands, call new elections after said Chamber has held power for the period of five years;

So it is that We, having heard the Council of State, and with common deliberation of Our General Council, have approved and understood, as We hereby approve and understand: the holding of elections for the Chamber of the Realm of Our General Council, from the twentieth up to and until the twenty-sixth of August of 2018.

First, a note for the purpose of general education:

About the political system

The Chamber of the Realm is the lower house of the bicameral legislature, known as His Majesty's General Council. The Chamber of the Realm is directly elected by all Herrebrughers: here, laws are first submitted for voting, after which they go to the Chamber of the Countries; though, this need not concern you. Elections happen using proportional representation: the amount of votes needed for one seat is calculated by dividing the amount of votes by the total amount of seats of the Chamber (400). Remaining seats are given to the parties with the highest average.

About the nation

The Kingdom of the Herrebrugh Islands is an island realm located in the Atlantic Ocean. It is a constitutional monarchy consisting of six Landen/Länder ("Countries", the primary subdivision) spread over nine islands.

The Herrebrugher government recognises nine main peoples, which are the peoples of European descent: the Batavians (Dutch descendents), Germans, Danes and British, and the native peoples: the Joertjoe, Jarsa, Kartjak and Pandoe (lit. Islanders). The capital city of Herrebrugh, the former capital of the Joertjoe, is named Jozefstadt after the founding King Joseph I of the Herrebrugh Islands.

Herrebrugh consists of several islands, the largest and by far most important of which being Jozevia. It is home to ninety percent of all Herrebrughers and furthermore houses the national capital and all major industry and agriculture. Many (geographical) differences exist on the island of Jozevia: Batavia, the eastern-most country, is typically low-lying and consists primarily of plains, while the Joertjoe country is low-lying in the east, and extremely mountainous in the west. Of all islands, the north-western island of Evertsland is most remote and, as a result, secretive, housing several palaces belonging to the King of the Herrebrugh Islands.

The Workers'-Farmers' Union is a party for both workers and farmers. While it has never been part of a cabinet, the fact that some municipal branch of the party managed to successfully protect a playground from a herd of angry capitalists, should be evidence enough for its governing capability, and reason enough for your vote. The party leader is Maoedjo Soedo, a farmer from North Joertjoe (also the first farmer to lead the party, which almost split the Workers'-Farmers' Union into two separate Unions). They want to work together with the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party to create a broad left front, but the ABU is considered too "dangerously to the left" for that.

The farmers and workers of Herrebrugh have been pushed around for too long! All over the country they are toiling while being sucked dry by consecutive neo-liberal cabinets of disaster. We, the ABU, hear your cry and answer the question burning on your lips: what is to be done? Vote ABU! We'll show those evil corporations, who only know how to take, what's what! Eliminate all taxes on farm-owners and workers, protect small business from the multinational conglomerates of destruction! Stop the politics of failure of Union Party bureaucrats! The native peoples of the Herrebrugh Islands have a score to settle: the great cultural and economic success of the island realm has reduced them to "the native peoples of the Herrebrugh Islands". Dutch and German have become the languages of the land, while the native languages are treated as quaint holdovers from the barbarism of pre-European history. Or as the pure, undisturbed ways of "a wise and strong people". The party is split on which is worse. The Association of the Native Peoples is led by Pno al-Qif, from the only natively Islamic part of the Islands, the islands of Pandoe.

The election poster of the VIV/VEV shows a close-up shot of an elderly Joertjoe man's face - he looks sternly at the viewer. The text reads "We'll get back eventually - For now, vote VIV/VEV".

It is also known as the Party of the Happy Pig, after an incident involving a pig's head and several appendages of the human body; though this led to a wave of vegetarian restaurants unequivocally distancing themselves from this vile act.

A spectre is haunting the Herrebrugh Islands - the spectre of liberalism. All the powers of old Herrebrugh have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this specter; pastor and King, Weill and Soedo, Joertjoe radicals and the Royal Guard.

Where is the party in government that has not been decried as neo-liberal by its opponents in the opposition? Where the party in government that has not hurled back the branding reproach of neo-liberalism, against the more advanced government parties, as well as against its populistic adversaries?

Several things result from this fact:

The Batavian People's Party is a party of pride. That is, pride of the easier variety: based in things you had nothing to do with as they happened ages ago. That these things may be found less than savoury in today's light, they would file under the category "tough cheese". The BVP demands that the history books be rectified to protect the youth from anti-Dutch propaganda, maintaining that, in 1813, the Joertjoe people at the Kedja stream walked into Dutch artillery fire completely voluntarily. They furthermore want every Herrebrugher over the age of 15 to be able to show a clog-dancing certificate from a reputable institution.

The BVP's campaign video shows four children, in the traditional Volendam costume, clog-dancing on an unusual rendition of the Wilhelmus, while singing at the top of their lungs and juggling three kinds of Dutch cheese. This is done in front of a green screen on which a waving Dutch flag and a windmill are projected.

As We take into consideration, the continued and diligent work of Our Highest Valued Counsellor, His Excellency Pedersen, whose Union Party cooperates in a cabinet with the Herrebrugher Liberals and the Party for the Democratisation of the State, since the year 2013, and the insistence of the Chamber of the Realm of Our General Council to, in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of the Herrebrugh Islands, call new elections after said Chamber has held power for the period of five years;
