The Role and Support of Nationalist Parties in Your Nation

Postby Stroulia » Thu Aug 02, 2018 11:41 pm

Within almost every nation, there is an undeniable feel of belonging to said nation. However, for some countries, that sense of belonging can grow into a nationalistic fervor, and in many nations there exists political parties and organizations that drive themselves off this patriotism and overt nationalism.

How prevalent are populist and/or nationalist political parties in your nation? Do they carry any influence in your government?

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: One party, the PND-OS, is part of the national legislative coalition.

How popular are they among your populace?: Relatively small overall compared to the other major parties.

Do they hold any power in your government?: As part of the main coalition with any national authority, they do have some say in government matters. However, they tend to choose to work with the other conservative parties, who tend to be less right-wing.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: There has been some slight growing support in recent years, however, none that has significantly affected the overall political landscape.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Most parties in Rhodenea are nationalist. We are a minority-ruled country. Any party that isn't nationalist are really fringe. Nationalist parties against the minority government (native rights parties,) are illegal.

How popular are they among your populace?: Very, considering most people eligible to vote usually vote for a nationalist party of some kind.

Do they hold any power in your government?: Yes. The ruling party, Rhodenea United, is nationalist.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Yes and no. There is no urgency in our nationalism anymore. Every civil strife regaurding apartied has ended. Native nationalism is but a smoldering ember. Nationalism in terms of the white minority is seen as business as usual. Every once in awhile you'll get one party down the throat of the other, but that's usually regaurding policies unrelated to nationalism.
This country does not reflect my real life view points. None so ever.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: The two main political groupings in Great Nortend, the Scodes and Conservative Coalition, and the Droughs, can be thought of as being nationalistic.

How popular are they among your populace?: They are the two main parties in Great Nortend.

Do they hold any power in your government?: The Scodes and Conservative Coalition are currently in Government.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: There is no significant opposition, and patriotism is certain a value that is cultivated.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: At least two: the more extreme Tinhampton First Party (8 of 149 seats) and more liberal Tinhamptonian Libertarian Party (19 of 149 seats). The Miners' Party is widely seen as protecting Tinhamptonian interests, although not properly nationalist as such; whilst Fluoride Free Tinhampton's sole AM, Andrew Xavier, has attracted somewhat a reputation for blaming "the global elites" on the fluoridisation of Tinhampton's water et al. Under Lydia Anderson (2015-17), the United Conservative Party seems to have come off more populist than today, even if both verions of the party were strong believers in Tinhampton itself.

How popular are they among your populace?: Rather - under Tinhampton's nationwide closed-list PR, some 64 out of 149 seats in Assembly belong to nationalistic parties and Assembly Members (which roughly accounts for internationalists in the UCP and nationalists in the Social Democratic List, and includes FFT).

Do they hold any power in your government?: A lot of it. Both parties, with the UCP and more internationalist Free Democrats, are in government. Foreign Minister Bianca Venkman (of eleven years), until recently the foremost liberal voice in Government, was recently ousted in favour of Anderson, thus leaving only three Free Democratic ministers.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Although Tinhamptonians have always been proud of Tinhampton, nationalist parties are growing: from twenty-six in 1995* to fifty in 2013 to fifty-eight in 2015 to sixty-four today, perhaps to even more in the future. The once-kingmaking (OK, twice if you are so inclined) Tinhamptonian Union of Sovereigntists, who have only clinched one Assembly seat this century so far, appear likely to win between one and three in the 2019 legislature if early polls are to be believed.
As the party in opposition, of course, most members of the SDL see fit to condemn the UCP's "jingoism" (the Shadow Foreign Minister's words, not mine), whilst some of them and most on the left in general are seen frowning upon the TLP. The T1P (Tinhampton 1st Party, for its transliteration) is almost universally opposed by anyone on the left or moderate right; still-FDP leader Bianca Venkman defended her party's joining a coalition with them on the past two occasions as being "a matter of political stability." On account of the productivity of the mines today, there is almost no opposition beyond the Green-Environmentalists to the Miners' Party.
*most AMs in the United Conservatives at that time were internationalists - fairly unsurprising, given that the somewhat less nationalistic UCP-SDL Grand Coalition only just came to a halt that election

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: No, the only party that declares themselves to be nationalist is the Gandoor Fascist Party, who have less than 1500 registered members nationwide.

How popular are they among your populace?: Again - only nationalist party has <1500 members in a nation of 236 million people.

Do they hold any power in your government?: No.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: It is not. The majority of Gandoorese citizens are opposed to nationalism, which in our nation is considered to be loving one's country just because it is their country, most Gandoorese hold pride in Gandoor because it has earned it through its history and how it treats its citizens.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Yes. It has, depending on definitions, anywhere from two to five, these being the Kanarian National Party, Coalition for the Public Interest (CPI), Kanarian Liberal Party (LDP), Salian National People's Party (SNP), and Darian National Party (DNP). The last two are actually regionalist and the Liberals only have a nationalist faction so I suppose they don't count. The largest of the remaining two parties is the Kanarian National Party (KNP), with 165 seats in the House of Representatives and 52 in the Senate. The CPI holds only 1 seat in the House.

How popular are they among your populace?: The KNP and CPI together won 24% of the votes in the 2016 federal election. The CPI collapsed due to internal policy disputes and corruption among its' leadership in 2017, and most of its' voters have since switched to the KNP.

Do they hold any power in your government?: The KNP is the second-largest coalition partner of the governing Liberal Party, with ministerial portfolios in Interior, Health, Welfare Services, Agriculture, and Defense.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Nationalism is currently not on the rise in Kanaria, not in any organized way.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Currently, the UCE has several parties that could be considered nationalist. The largest of these is the Human Defense League (HDL), followed by the United Colonies Movement (UCM). In the Union, the "nation" that is most often the focus of nationalists is the human nation, defined by the majority species of the UCE, though some have attempted to expand it to all citizens of the UCE regardless of species, namely the UCM. These forms of nationalism are ethnic (humanocentrist) and civic (autochthonist).

How popular are they among your populace?: The HDL is the largest interstellar political party in the United Colonies of Earth, with 821 billion members. In 2554, it received 1.4 trillion votes and 2,298 seats in the General Assembly, with its' presidential candidate, Ayse Agricola, losing to the UCM's Sam Munroe by a mere 110 electoral votes, the sharpest margin in the history of presidential elections. The UCM is the second-largest with 820.8 billion members. It won 1,963 seats in the 2554 election and 1.1 trillion votes.

Do they hold any power in your government?: The UCM currently forms the largest party in the Union and Progress coalition governing the Union and is the party of the incumbent President. The Presidency is a relatively powerless position, though. The more powerful Secretary-Generalship and control over Congress reside in the hands of the Democratic Unionist Party allied to the UCM, with Inkorath Paine being Secretary-General since 2550, and the current president of the General Assembly being Emiliana Haisuga.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: It is on the rise, mainly due to rising immigration of nonhumans from the UCE's allied states and neighbors as well as an ongoing cold war with the vast, nonhuman Gliusor Empire and Vell Hegemony. The opposition to humanocentrism is primarily led by the UCM, but also by the Alliance of National Sovereigntists and the Democratic Unionist Party. The Human Defense League itself is a relatively new party, having been founded 55 years ago, while most other UCE parties were founded over two centuries ago in the wake of the Colonial Civil War or even earlier.
The United Colonies of Earth exists:

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Yes, the civic nationalist National party, and the national conservative Freedom party. Other parties, most notably the governing Progressive party, espouse some elements of nationalism as well, both civic and otherwise. This also includes the current Prime Minister, Ariella Aitken, who's government has espoused some elements of nationalism, including more controls on immigration and illegal immigration, placed blocks on foreign home ownership, and has put in place policies to promote Van Hool industry over foreign industry.

How popular are they among your populace?: The National party is the second largest opposition party in the country with 15 seats in the House of Commons, while the Freedom party hold 3 seats in the Parliament and are tied for the smallest party with parliamentary representation.

Do they hold any power in your government?: No, neither party has any position in the Government.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Somewhat. There has been some opposition, mainly to the Freedom party, from anti-fascist, pro-refugee, and leftist political groups. Other nationalists and nationalist parties face a significantly smaller amount of backlash, and the moderately nationalist policies of the Aitken government have been rather popular.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: It used to - the Radiatian Destiny Party was most significant, gaining 10% of the vote at its height. Since then the party has disbanded with most of its supporters absorbed into the fringes of the Liberal-Conservative Party (and some in Social Democratic Union.)

The Right Wing Resistance Party also has a presence but is mostly insignificant, formed as a protest movement by some on the hard right of the LCP against the Pavlovic Administration's supposed liberalism/centrism.

How popular are they among your populace?: Nationalist parties aren't that popular, although nationalism itself is big and both major parties espouse varying degrees of nationalist policies.

Do they hold any power in your government?: Not currently.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: To an extent, but it's more that support is shifting rather than rising - the current President, Jaagen Autenberg, holds some nationalist leanings but is a member of the left-wing Social Democratic Union. The result has been that most Radiatian nationalists are now flocking to the SDU, rather than the LCP, while the LCP have arguably become the more 'globalist' party.

The only major opposition is the left-wing United Front party, which has seen a major decline in popularity ever since the NIVP "Good Work For All" program beat them at their own game

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: The National Party, the smallest of the four major political parties. With just 1 of 30 seats in the latest Senate. The party is very conservative and is similar to the "Republican Party" of the US at this time. In fact, the National Party's platform says that the Island should "act more like the US".

How popular are they among your populace?: Not too popular. In a recent poll, 5% have said they approve of the National Party, 91% disprove, and 4% weren't sure how to respond.

Do they hold any power in your government?: Yes, but not much. 1 Senate seat out of 30-- insignificant but still sometimes the deciding vote.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: It is actually in decline, with the National Party loosing seats in the Senate (coinciding with the nationalism in America being looked down upon by our Islanders). There is significant opposition to the National Party.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: No. Nationalist political parties are illegal. Most nationalists either boycott our elections in protest of the ban or vote for the center-right Union Party, the only party that isn't outright anti-nationalist.

How popular are they among your populace?: Around 26% of our people would vote for an openly nationalist party if given the choice, but since nationalist parties are illegal, exact numbers are hard to pinpoint.

Do they hold any power in your government?: No. Our government is led by an absolute monarch who hates nationalism and fires any government official known to be a nationalist. Nationalist elected officials are immediately removed from power by the Emperor, and are frequently imprisoned. Nearly the entire government opposes nationalism.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Popular approval of nationalism is on the decline, with a decrease in approval rating from 34% to 26% over the last decade. Virtually every single government official is united in opposition to nationalism, most of which truly believe that nationalism is wrong, though some people simply oppose nationalism in order to win favor with the Emperor.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Yes, there is the Aikoland Conservatives, a right-wing party, and the Party of Nationalist Aikolanders, a far-right party. A key difference between the two is that the Aikoland Conservatives focuses on a mild form of nationalism based around the concept of cultural nationalism whereas the Party of Nationalist Aikolanders are an ethnic nationalist party who believe that non-Japanese, non-Koreans, and non-Taiwanese people should be removed from Aikoland on the grounds of maintaining what they declare to be the 'East Asian purity of the Aikoland people'.

How popular are they among your populace?: The Aikoland Conservatives are one of the most popular parties in Aikoland and are considered a major party in Parliament. The Party of Nationalist Aikolanders, while they do have supporters and representation in Parliament, are considered a much more minor party in our nation.

Do they hold any power in your government?: Both the Aikoland Conservatives and the Party of Nationalist Aikolanders have representation in Parliament. The Aikoland Conservatives have 105 seats and are in a coalition government with the center-right National Party of Aikoland, who have 97 seats. The current Prime Minister, Song Eun-Bi, is also a member of the Aikoland Conservatives.

The Party of Nationalist Aikolanders currently have six seats in Parliament.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: It's neither on the rise nor in decline. While the Party of Nationalist Aikolanders has never had more than eight seats in Parliament, the Aikoland Conservatives, with the exceptions of the years between 2009 and 2030 (the so-called 'Liberal Wave', which saw the center-left and left-wing Liberal Democratic Party and Aikoland Labor Party coming to power) and from 2051 to 2058, have always been the largest single party in Parliament and a part of a coalition government with the National Party. The number of seats they have may ebb and flow from one General Election to the next, the general support base for the Aikoland Conservatives and their cultural nationalism remains constant.

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Absolutely NOT!

How popular are they among your populace?: Extremely unpopular enough to get you in JAIL or DEATH PENALTY.

Do they hold any power in your government?: They were, before 1973.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: "Nationalism"? Is that a far-right ideology? You may get arrested and persecuted if you are one of those "nationalist", no, far-right scum.
Note: This nation does not reflect its owner's political and personal views and never has used NS stats.

While we support your opposition to nationalism, we think the death penalty is a little... extreme. Just imprison them all, it's much more humane. If you're executing people because you ran out of space in your jails, you can just send them to us instead. We have more than enough space.

Actually, the most "Humane" thing would be to just, you know, not jail people for their political beliefs? Hmm? Ever thought of that?

Anyways:
Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Yes, the largest one (We're technically still a republic) is one

How popular are they among your populace?: 64% support a nationalist party (Usually ours), however, only 34% support Nationalist Ideas. The strange occurance is probably because of how all the other parties suck ass.

Do they hold any power in your government?: Yes

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Nationalism at this point is one of our core values
All shall tremble before me

Does your country have any significant nationalist political parties?: Almost every party, to an extent. To not even be vaguely nationalistic is to ensure your party's slow demise, owing to the wave of militant nationalism that has swept the population over the last century. When every country is embroiled in a massive war, and each of them threatens your very existence, an extreme sense of nationalism is almost certainly bound to erupt.

How popular are they among your populace?: Extremely popular. Some would say that the only non-nationalists in the Realm are those of non-Noctish extraction.

Do they hold any power in your government?: Yes and no. Since the country is, as of the time of writing this response, under a military-backed dictatorship, no political parties (even extreme nationalist ones!) hold power in the Realm. However, that would mean very little, as both the military government and the most popular political parties are both heavily nationalistic.

Is nationalism on the rise in your country? If so, is there any significant opposition to it?: Kind of hard to go up when it's at the top, no?
