In the Qromist religion, it’s considered bad luck if there’s a black cloud above your house, a black variant of a common animal looks you in the eye unexpectedly (Yes, this includes African-Qromans. The religion was written at a different time.), and if a man wearing all black clothing walks by you. Some death omens include finding a black stone in your home or seeing a black plant growing in your garden, although there are many more.

One popular instance of bad luck was the case of Riqy Malloy, who discovered that a black tree had been growing in his backyard days before he was killed in a riot in 1964.

Another story is one of an army group during the Second World War in France finding a black stone in a house they had overtaken. The entire group was killed in battle the next day.
