Arianism in Your Nation

Arianism, or Arian* Christianity, is a unique sect of the larger Christian faith that emerged as one of its two predominant forms in the 4th century AD. It is a nontrinitarian view, asserting that Jesus is separate from God, is His son, and is thus subordinate to God.

The first two Ecumenical Councils affirmed the other present Orthodoxy, Homoousianism. The First Council of Nicaea therefore declared Arianism to be heterodox, in opposition to the orthodoxy, and summarily heretical. Whilst Arianism persisted in the reigns of Emperors Constantius II and Valens, as well as Odoacer of the Ostrogoths, as well as later the Lombards and Visigoths, it severely declined.

Jehovah's Witnesses are often referred to as Arians but mainly by opponents, and differ theologically from Arius himself. No single group today in the real world holds to full Arian teachings though some are very similar. Not only did the First Council of Nicaea proclaim Arianism heretical (as did the First Council of Constantinople), but virtually every branch of Christianity within both Catholicism and Protestantism mainly, regard Arianism as a heresy.

*Arian has no relation to the word Aryan. 'Arian' is derived from its founder, Arius, whilst 'Aryan' is an Indo-Iranian word meaning 'noble'. Therefore the use of the word 'Arians' is not an implication of 'Aryan' as race or ethnicity but solely religious orientation.

Do other Christian sects (or even non-Christian faiths) in your nation regard Arianism as heretical? Every Christian group in TS, even the Taipings (who are descendants of a sort of Chinese Mormons, more or less), rejects them.

If not, were Arians ever present in your nation? No.
When and why did Arianism disappear? It never made it in.

Were Arians ever subject to persecution by other groups? No.
Did Arians orchestrate any persecution themselves? No.

Is there a denomination of Arian Christians in your nation? Yes. There are at least two organised church bodies claiming classical Arian beliefs and continuity with the original Arians. Their followers are concentrated in the Eastern Highlands, where one can also find communities of Docetists, Mechisedekians, and the like. In addition to these churches, there are also Unitarian Christians, Christadelphians, and smaller, less established groups of Oneness Pentecostals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Christian Scientists converted by foreign missionaries. However, all of these groups put together likely constitute around 1% of the population, if that.

If so, do they constitute a majority of the population? No, a majority are Trinitarian, Chalcedonian Christians.
Is Arianism the official religion of your nation? No
Are Arians subject to persecution by other groups? Perhaps some incidents of discrimination here and there, but nothing systematic.
Are Arians the architects of any persecution themselves? Not that we know of
Are any of your political establishment leaders self-professed Arians? The Governor of one of our states is a Unitarian.
Do other Christian sects (or even non-Christian faiths) in your nation regard Arianism as heretical? Yes, all of the major denominations in Kiravia (Roman Catholic, Coscivian Orthodox, Insular Apostolic, Reformed Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, Wesleyan, and Lutheran) regard Arianism as heretical.

Is there a denomination of Arian Christians in your nation? Not in any such numbers that they'd appear on a graph or anything. Mostly it is practised among Selian expats and diplomats living in the larger cities.

If so, do they constitute a majority of the population? As I said above, not by any stretch. Shintoism is the dominant religion in Japan, and even then only a minority consider themselves practising followers.
Is Arianism the official religion of your nation? We don't have one.
Are Arians subject to persecution by other groups? Not since the first Selian envoys journeyed to Japan centuries ago, no.
Are Arians the architects of any persecution themselves? I'd like to see them try, but no.
Are any of your political establishment leaders self-professed Arians? Nope.
Do other Christian sects (or even non-Christian faiths) in your nation regard Arianism as heretical? Christians (Catholics and Protestants mostly) living in Japan are generally indifferent towards Arianism, and given its fringe status there is rarely much experience with it to build much of an organised persecution off anyway.

Is there a denomination of Arian Christians in your nation? Yes. Arian Christians in Carloso number several dozen, concentrated in an area to the north-east of the city of Ebon. They are organised under the banner of the Arian Church of Carloso. Historically, its adherents descend from immigrants to Carloso from the Visigothic nation of Vizkigeric on the other side of Musgorocia. Arians themselves make up only a small minority of Christians in Vizkigeric, where Catholicism has a plurality amongst various other Chalcedonian denominations that formed after the exodus from Iberia. Many of these churches have yet to return to communion with the Bishop of Rome.

If so, do they constitute a majority of the population? No

Were Arians ever subject to persecution by other groups? There was a certain amount of prejudice against all immigrants from Vizkigeric, which were often portrayed as barbarians responsible for destroying the Roman Empire.
Did Arians orchestrate any persecution themselves? No
Were any of your historical leaders professed Arians? No
Was Arianism regarded as heresy by any Christian sects (or non-Christian faiths) in your nation? Yes. It is considered heresy by the Roman Catholic Church and most other Christian churches in Carloso.

Is there a denomination of Arian Christians in your nation? Not anything official like major groups, but they do exist in Derping.

If so, do they constitute a majority of the population? No.
Is Arianism the official religion of your nation? Derping refuses to name an official religion.
Are Arians subject to persecution by other groups? They may be, but in the majority of situations it's not anything too serious so for the most part no.

Are any of your political establishment leaders self-professed Arians? No.

Is there a denomination of Arian Christians in your nation? I believe so. I'd have to check the records.

If so, do they constitute a majority of the population? Not really, although I always did imagine Jesus as separate from God when I was religious. Maybe I have more in common with them than I thought.
Is Arianism the official religion of your nation? No. We don't have one, but we don't persecute either.
Are Arians subject to persecution by other groups? I don't know. I wouldn't imagine so, but then again, anything is possible.
Are Arians the architects of any persecution themselves? Again, I don't know. We don't monitor religious people. We're utterly indifferent to them.
Are any of your political establishment leaders self-professed Arians? Not that I know of.
Do other Christian sects (or even non-Christian faiths) in your nation regard Arianism as heretical? You'd have to ask them.

Is there a denomination of Arian Christians in your nation? Yes.

If so, do they constitute a majority of the population? No, they are a very small minority at 0.093% of the population.
Is Arianism the official religion of your nation? No. The state religion is Unitarian Universalism.
Are Arians subject to persecution by other groups? Not much, mainly due to their low profile and the government's ban on religious persecution.
Are Arians the architects of any persecution themselves? No. They don't have the numbers to be a political force.
Are any of your political establishment leaders self-professed Arians? No.
Do other Christian sects (or even non-Christian faiths) in your nation regard Arianism as heretical? Most do.

If not, were Arians ever present in your nation? N/A
When and why did Arianism disappear? Prior to our nation's founding. In the 1980s, the government launched an initiative to give resources to people resurrecting dead religions, in order to prevent them from becoming extinct again. This resulted in a few people converting and keeping Arianism alive.
If they currently do not exist, or exist as a minority, were Arians ever the majority in your nation? No. They were always a minority.
Were Arians ever subject to persecution by other groups? Occasionally, though it's illegal.
Did Arians orchestrate any persecution themselves? No. There aren't enough of them.
Were any of your historical leaders professed Arians? No.
Was Arianism regarded as heresy by any Christian sects (or non-Christian faiths) in your nation? Yes, and it still is.
