Polygamy is legal in Coconut Palm Island, because the King and the government believes that individuals should decide how their marriage works. So, polygamy is totally legal here, as long as everyone in the marriage is an adult, consenting to the marriage, and there is no domestic abuse or violence going on.

Although it is fully legal, society generally discourages polygamy. People who practice polygamy are not treated poorly, but in a recent poll, 83% of citizens said they would never enter into a polygamous relationship.

Polygamy I sent technically Legal however it I sent extremely rare due to 45 percent of the nation being extremely devout Roman Catholics. However, in the past there was once a queen with 50 husbands and 750 male concubines.

Polygamy is legal, but rare. It is more prevalent among the upper class, chiefly the merchant houses such as Ma'adids, where polygynous arrangement among its select members is deemed essential to sire high-quality heirs to succeed its great offices and reign over the vast domain that is the Abode of Peace. Polyandry is near nonexistent except within very few ethnic enclaves.

The Republic of Boetia believes in liberty for all its citizens be it a man, a woman, or a child. Therefore, Boetian law allows polygamy as long as all the parties involved in the process consent without any coercion.
When mankind understands that a person's liberty can only be limited by the liberty of others, then the world can finally be proclaimed as truly civilized.

Polygamy is legal and quite popular in Yannia. It is estimated that 69% of the adult population lives in a polygamous marriage. The most common number of spouses is six. Marriages in Yannia are only valid for a year and a day, and thus have to be renewed every year, and sometimes one or two spouses are added during such a renewal. The largest group of people ever married in a single ceremony was 17, although this marriage didn't last, and the year after they were split into 3 groups, with a few new spouses.

Polygamy is relatively common among the Skorrish noble houses, but it is more often than not practiced by slavers who have grown emotional attachments to their slaves...no matter their purpose. Pureblooded Skorrish polygamy is rare, although some nobles do have several wives.

═───╡❖╞────────═ Polygamy in the Freehold ═────────╡❖╞───═

To outright state that polygamy is legal or illegal would be to ignore relevant parts of the custom and the legality.

Within the legal bounds of law as exercised by the Freehold, the act of marriage to more than one spouse at a time is not permitted save in one special circumstance. A precedent in the laws of the Lakaeronians, who would later found the Freehold from their capital, Ephyra, permitted that in the situation a man's wife is unable to bear children, but her physical state of health is such that a divorce is dishonourable to her and cowardly to him, he may take another woman to breed.

Issues with translation however resulted in a standard that allowed a man to take a second wife with whom he might reproduce also, and if his first wife recovers he is under no obligation to divorce either of his brides. However analysis of the precedent in proto-Ephyral, or the early Lakaeronian dialect of such, indicates instead that the practice was for a man to take a concubine, a kept woman, one he was not legally married to, and have all children of that union be recognised as born of his wife.

The discrepancy was exposed relatively recently, but no amendment to the precedent has been changed, and in that specific example, a man is entitled to take a second wife. Therefore polygyny is the only accepted form of polygamy by law.

In the public view, polygamy is a largely barbarian practice. The hoarding of woman prevents the investment of men in a society because they have nothing to protect and provide for, and no home cause to protect when they go to war. The Freehold cites its military triumph over more numerous enemies, which engaged in polygamy, as examples of this, as despite the superiority of numbers their enemy commanded, they simply lacked the investment of defence and home that the soldiers of the Freehold held, and broke.

The act of keeping a concubine is also viewed as a polygamous practice if one is already married. Typically, concubinage would occur between men and women of highly divided social classes, almost exclusively a highborn man and a lowborn woman, when they existed in such a scenario where marriage was not socially permitted.

This does not extend however to the practice of keeping sexual property, in the form of female or male slaves. As slaves are not considered individuals as people, no polygamy or official concubinage is occurring (though women particularly kept for sexual purposes to a single man who is her master is verbally referred to as a concubine).

Due to the issue of maintaining effective pay in the early and even mid to later years of the Freehold, and to an extent even today, the collection of spoils of war in the form of looted treasure, weapons and food, or people, was very much accepted, and by the turn of 1000 AD had become essentially a stratified practice of loot division.

As they are not considered people, have no legal protections under the Freehold's law, and are typically foreign born, there is no violation of marriage oath or the trend of polygamy should a man take slaves.

However, outside of the Freehold is not just foreign territory. The Freehold itself exercises power over a vast amount of territory that comprises an informal polity known as the Freehold Empire, or the Ephyral Empire. This is where most of the population that the Freehold actually rules over is bound, and two practices result in polygamy here.

The first is religious indifference. As long as adherence to the law of the Freehold is obeyed, and appropriate taxes paid, the focus of worship of an individual is not of concern. The second is the legality of marriage. Only marriage by accepted Ephyral conventions is regarded as legally binding.

What this means is that Christians, Jews, Muslims, and other religious groups are allowed to engage in their own customary marital practices, for all intents and purposes satisfying their own internal custom, whilst not being legally recognised as such in Ephyral law. So particularly in the case of Islam, but also within Judaism and other minority groups, a non-legal form of marriage may occur that joins one man to a number of women. This is especially true amongst the Yazidi population of the empire.

And as there is no law against cohabitation with multiple sexual partners, only a precedent in law regarding polygamy and general social negativity, a man of the Yazidi, a Muslim, a Jew, or anyone else is quite free to 'marry' a number of women and live with them, satisfying their own cultural standards of what a marriage is, and engaging sexually with all of them.

None of the minority groups within Ephyra operates on a polyandrist mode of marriage, and therefore all marriage in the Freehold's territories, both legally and non-legally recognised, is either monogamous or polygynous.

A man may have multiple wives, and this is often done to ensure ties between the great houses of the Republic. Usually only a man with great wealth and/or influence will achieve such marriages, however.

The Practice of Polygamy, the taking of multiple partners, is legal in The Frozen Forest. When the Communist Party came to power in 1912, they introduced sweeping reforms, one of those was the laws regarding marriage. Previously the law had been extremely conservative, with gay-marriage, polygamy and marriage between two people of more than twenty years of age, except the Royals, be illegal. This was changed and opened up entirely. Under the current laws of TFF, across all regions and in every city and rural area, you may take and have multiple spouses as long as all spouses are of age. There is one major exception to this law. The Royal House, not just the Royal Family, but the entire Bjork Family is not allowed to have more than a single spouse. This was a concession of The Bjork Accords, which ended The Frozen Forestrian Civil War.

Notably though, despite its legalization it is quite rare. Very few people have multiple partners, spouses less so. This is generally due to cultural attitudes towards marriage as well as the Catholic Church, which has exerted pressure on the people instead of the law.

Polygamy is strictly prohibited and is a criminal offence in every state and territory, and in the federal system. If someone is found to have married one spouse in one state and then contracted a second (or third, fourth...) marriage in a different jurisdiction, then it is a federal offence, as is trying to jointly file one's federal taxes with two or more spouses. In such cases, the offender is tried in the federal court for the sector covering the state or territory where the household associated with the second (or most recent) marriage is domiciled. If convicted, the person's second (and any subsequent) marriage is annulled and they are ordered to pay back any money they might have saved through federal tax credits for the invalid marriages. The typical federal sentence for polygamy is 5 months in a minimum-security federal prison. Polygamists who are not Kiravian nationals are subject to deportation.

However, as most cases of polygamy arise from someone going through a divorce getting married before the divorce is finalised, lawyers can usually negotiate for a lesser sentence or for the case to be dismissed.

For the federal government and most states, polygamy laws only apply to registered marriages and civil unions. However, some states have extended their legal definitions of polygamy to include anyone living and maintaining a household with more than one sexual partner.

As marriage is defined under national law as the union of two or more consenting adults which means that polygamy is legal in all of Thermodolia except republics, Commonwealths, and the military.

According to military law marriage is defined as the union of two consenting adult persons. Only one republic allows polygamy.

While polygamy is legal in Thermodolia it is not widely practiced, only 2% of all marriages are polygamous.
