Coffee and Tea culture in Silver Commonwealth

Postby Silver Commonwealth » Wed Jun 12, 2019 7:00 am

Data from Ministry of Foreign and Internal Affairs

Coffee and Tea culture in SC

Coffee and Tea culture in YN
Nation name: ''The World Syndicalist Republics of Silver Commonwealth, or in shortened form - SC Sometimes just called as ''The Commonwealth'' as well.''
Is coffee or tea more popular in YN?: ''It can be pretty hard to answer, because we are a world government, and both coffee, and tea traditions are strong and both have a lot of admirers, as those are one from the few things, which cross regional boundaries. Also, estimates by the government aren't 100% accurate, because it's nigh impossible to cover the entire world. However, as of now, coffee is slightly more popular than tea across the world. Proportionally to amount of citizens, tea is the most popular in Central Asian territories, but coffee - in Lower Central America.''

Coffee
How popular is coffee in YN?: ''It is one of the most popular drinks in SC's world, and is pretty popular in the Megastates of America - the main region of SC. However, they aren't the largest coffee consumers at all - Finnish are estimated to drink the most amount of coffee annually, but it is also popular in other Nordic regions, and Central America. Despite the situation still being terrible, a lot more people can afford to drink coffee regularly, and even in traditional tea bastions like East Asia, coffee is slowly starting to gain some popularity as well. As of now, it is likely, that consumption of coffee will grow in future, due of the fact, that SC's government prefers coffee plantations over tea plantations, despite both being pretty even.''
How often is it drunk, and at what time of day?: ''In most cases, tradition is to drink one cup in the morning, while either reading a newspaper, or preparing to go to work. However, in the last few years, there have been suggestions to instead drink coffee during noon, because cortisol level is high at morning, but it falls during day, and drinking coffee, when the level of it is high, is not considered as good by SC's doctors. Most often it is consumed once at day at most, as it still is a pretty expensive thing, and unlike bread, it is not a part of the ''primary needs'' section in food rations.''
How is coffee usually prepared in YN?: ''Just like with tea, there are various variants, of how to prepare coffee. As there are lots of them, we will list only a few. In SC's Finland, coffee is sometimes poured over cheese curds, creating a combo. Turkish coffee usually is unfiltered, which gives it an unique taste, and SC's soldiers have enjoyed it in their trips through Europe. In SC's Malaysia, black coffee can be mixed with Hong Kong-styled milk tea as well, and can be served both hot, and cold. In SC's Senegal, coffee is often flavored with Guinea peppers, for a particularly strong drink. In Caribbean Isles, espresso is brewed with sugar, but Irish coffee also contains whiskey, sugar, and thick cream on top. And there are many more traditions.''
Who is coffee most popular amongst?: ''Coffee is usually popular between white collar workers, and students, which often need a bit of it in order to stay awake during evening hours, in case if project is very long. For the same reason, coffee is also popular between soldiers, as in combination with energetic substances, it can keep them awake for a longer time. Of course, there are those, who drink it only with milk, and sugar - for them, it usually can be even a snack, when there are no other snacks available. A softer form of coffee is also popular between younger children, especially with already mentioned milk, and sugar.''
Is YN a producer of coffee?: ''Of course we produce coffee, as we are a world government. That said, some regions produce more coffee than others, and some don't produce coffee at all, and it is only an import good. While major coffee plantations in Indochina, India, and Indonesia were still hurt due of the disputed zone's warfare, coffee production in SC wasn't hurt as much as tea production, as there various large coffee plants itself, and the largest coffee producer in SC's world - SC's Brazil, provided most of SC's coffee before the Scramble for the World. Production of coffee is a significant part of SC's overall income, and the amount of its consumption has been rapidly increasing with development of new technologies.''

Tea
How popular is tea in YN?: ''While a bit less popular than coffee, tea is still one of the most popular drinks in the world, and is particularly popular in India, and China. Also, tea is still wildly popular in SC's Britain, despite the Cultural Revolution launched a few decades earlier - it didn't affect British tea drinking traditions that much, despite SC's first attempts to force more coffee consumption. Tea is pretty popular in Muscovy, and SC's Persia as well, as it often is a lighter drink, if compared to coffee, and can warm the body well.''
How often is it drunk, and at what time of day?: ''Often in the morning, and evening. By recent guidelines by state CEOs, it is advised to not drink tea in the middle of the day, as then sun usually is the hottest by then, and ''such substances cause you to feel even more dry'', according to the words of some CEOs. If a person follows a strong tea (or coffee) culture, they could possibly drink tea at exact periods in the daytime (Like British tea traditions, while some don't particularly care, when they drink their tea. Overall, this highly depends on local traditions.''
How is tea usually prepared in YN?: ''There are various ways of it, but we are going to list only a few from the regions. In SC's Thailand, iced tea is wildly popular. It often has condensed milk added to it as well, and spices like anise. In Tibet, black tea is often boiled for hours, and milk, salt, and yak butter are added to it afterwards. In SC's Russia, zavarka is a tea concentrate, brewed in a small metal container, and then served along with sweets, milk, and sugar, although often people drink it black too. In SC's Taiwan, bubble tea with powdered milk and sugar syrup is popular, but in mainland China, there is a long, extensive tea ceremony tradition, where cups are often arranged in a circle. There are other traditions too.''
Who is tea most popular amongst?: ''Tea is more popular between younger kids as coffee, as while children aren't usually given coffee until they are about 13-15, then tea is given at way earlier age. It is also commonly referred to as ''old people's drink'' in SC, due of stereotype of old men drinking a coffee at past time. Due of the fact, that black coffee is a lot stronger, it is also preferred by those, who hate bitter drinks. White collar workers like both tea, and coffee, actually, similarly to blue collar workers.''
Is YN a producer of tea?: ''Yes, we also produce quite a lot of tea. That said... Most of the largest tea plantations in SC's world were located in parts of the former disputed zone (China, India, Africa, etc.), which meant, that they were hurt pretty badly from the ''Perpetual war'' - a conflict between three superstates. In result, it was a massive blow to tea industry, and as SC hadn't got access to most of the largest tea plantations in other superstates as well, tea consumption decreased massively, and while it remained a tradition in Britain, tea shortages were not uncommon, as unlike bread, it wasn't put in the ''basic necessity'' food ration card. Only recently has SC taken control of all of the world's largest tea plantations, which means, that tea has started to flow once again. Still, it will take many years to fix the damages to plantations, and industry as a whole.''

Vallermoore's National Holidays.

1st January-New Year's Day
A happy national holiday for all. Since a lot of people drank too much on New Year's Eve and drink driving can get prison or even the death penalty it is not fair to expect them to risk their lives to get to work. People rest and sleep off their hangovers. Only emergency services work on this day.

March 25th-Easter Day. The second national holiday of the year it is a good time to feast on chocolate eggs.

April 1st-Not a holiday as such but a time for silly pranks. Even the press and TV joins in.

July 8th-Queen Yocasta's birthday and the third national holiday of the year. There are large numbers of fireworks set off officially and otherwise.

October 31st-Hallowe'en/Nightmare Night

Not a holiday as such and unpopular with many people because of pranks such as tyre slashing and other such things. Trick or treating is banned as people are either too young or too old for it but it still happens. Every year a few people get arrested doing illegal stuff on this night.

December 25th-Christmas Day

The fourth national holiday of the year and a time for feasting, opening presents and enjoying oneself as much as you can.

December 26-Boxing Day

The fifth national holiday of the year and a time to rest and enjoy yourself. Also a traditional time to watch boxing matches on the TV.

December 31st-New Year's Eve

The sixth national holiday of the year and a time to set off fireworks at midnight, jump into the New Year and kiss your loved one.

Some workers get up to a month of extra holidays and others have just the six national holidays guaranteed by law.

If so, is this state formed from the proletariat, a bureaucracy, a small group of conspirators, or something else entirely? The state and clergy hold power over the rest of the population. It's interesting to note that Xanh's clergy retains the most powerful members of Taoism/Daoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Shintoism alike, thus technically classifying Xanh as a theocracy

If it is formed from the proletariat, how is this power exercised in practice? N/A

Are members of the state elected? Are they recallable? Yes

Is the society in your nation described as anarchist in nature? No

Does your nation possess money, property, a state, and/or classes? All (property, however, is owned by the state)

If yes, is the State (or lack thereof) dedicated to eventually abolishing them? No

Are there commodities (products that are created to be exchanged) in your nation? Yes

Does your nation adopt communist principles for scientific, utopian, or religious reasons? Religious reasons

Does your nation seek to expand communism beyond its own borders? No

Please place an X in all boxes that describe your nations implementation of communism.

Military in Mercatus is highly advanced and everyone is conscripted, mostly serving on our interstellar war fleet.

Sports:

Shoot each other with actual guns

Hunting anything they want

American Football

Fishing for any animal within our waters

The punishment for most crimes is either death or very long prison sentence
No judicial system [thats where everything gets screwed up]

Corporations can do pretty much whatever they want

Murder is sanctioned if you fill out the paperwork

Citizens, including kids, can buy whatever weapons and firearms they want.

No one comes in, those here illegally are shot
