Naming customs in YN
Nation name: Indian Empire
National languages: English, Danish, Spanish, Japanese

In YN ...
How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type): Given names are typically chosen at the parents discretion upon the birth of the child. The only exception to this is bizarre names, where courts have jurisdiction to change any name considered "ridiculous"- so typically, parents will handle it and will get there way on the name to give a child.
How are family names determined? (quantity, type): Family name (surname) tends to come from a parent. Typically, the child gains the father's last name automatically, but it can be changed depending on the parents (eg single mothers with maiden name, adoption, etc)
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?: No.
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?: Mr refers to a male, Ms an unmarried female, Mrs a married female, and Dr for people with doctorates.
How is a full name formatted?: Given name is first, followed by surname
Do family names differ for males and females?: No.
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?: Typically yes, but it is up to the discretion of the couple.
Can people change their name? If so, how?: Yes, they can go change their name at the local courthouse, but they have to pay all the fees that the government and other entities pose on changing the records out of pocket, so it's generally not recommended.
Do immigrants have to take a name in the national language?: No.

Give an example of a full male name from YN:
Give an example of a full female name from YN:

Leader's Full Title: Prime Minister
Leader's Spouse: Irene Rodriguez (nee Sancho)

Languages Spoken: English, Spanish, Danish, Japanese

For men yes, most men have several male and female lovers. For women it is illegal nationally but legal in the California provinces, barring in the Shady Sands province.

Nagians live in close-knit communities and raise children communally, so the idea of a nuclear family is unfamiliar to them. The idea of a fixed sex is also unfamiliar, since Nagians are reptiles that can change their sex, and sometimes do it just to see what it's like.

As such, taking more than one mate isn't considered obscene or even strange; it never has been. Even the leader of Blue Nagia has two mates who are very beloved by the population. It's considered healthy to love multiple people and have multiple people who love you back, though if it starts looking like a harem with one person in charge, that's frowned upon (though not illegal, as the government doesn't interfere in consensual adult relationships). Nagians don't like the idea of "collecting" partners for status, and the ideal is that everyone in a multi-partner relationship loves or is at least fond of all the others.

Roman Catholic scholars argue that, while polygamy is frequently found throughout the Bible, Jesus in the New Testament reveals that the Mosaic Laws of old Israel made concessions such as polygamy to satiate human weaknesses, and that God never intended for this. They further cite quotes throughout the Bible that outline a need for monogamy. Furthermore, the Council of Trent explicitly condemned polygamy. Thus, polygamy is considered a sin to be avoided. Like any other sins, polygamy is illegal.

How long is a term for your nation's head of state? Since 1958, the Prime Minister's term has been set at six years. Prior to 1958, they had no term limits and could serve as long as their party maintained control of the Forum following National Elections and they maintained the confidence of the Forum.
How many terms can your nation's head of state serve? The Prime Minister may serve for a maximum of two terms. It must be noted that, in the event that the current Prime Minister vacates the office before finishing their term and they have served for more than half of their current term, then the Head of the Forum (who immediately assumes the office if it is vacated) may serve for two additional full terms, but if they have served for less than half of their current term, then they may only serve for one additional full term.
How long is a term for your nation's head of government? See above, the Prime Minister is both head of state and head of government in the Democratic Republic.
How many terms can your nation's head of government serve? See above, the Prime Minister is both head of state and head of government in the Democratic Republic.
How long is a term in your nation's legislature? A term in the Forum is set at four years.
How many terms can a member of your nation's legislature serve? Since 2024, Members of the Forum may not serve for more than four consecutive terms at once. Prior to 2024, they could only serve for three terms.

What percentage of YN’s population:
Has at least one tattoo? 5%
Has at least one piercing? 3%
neither are common customs nor fassons
Is overweight? Over or under is a matter of personal taste
Is irreligious? 95% recognize the unknown as being unknown, though more then 61% believe that some sort of god-like beings exist and to some degree communicat or influence their environment.
Also many who do not otherwise consider themselves “religious” fallow the four fold path of logic, consideration, honesty and imagination, which is at the core of nalanuthu.
Most consider the universe the work of impatial, impersonal and non-sapient forces and not of any one or a small number of self aware beings. Though again, recognize the possibility of such beings existing.
Is lactose intolerant? Odd question. Maybe one or two percent. The breastmilk of some species is a common additive flavoring for some beverages.
Washes their hands after using the restroom? Depends on context and circumstance. Everyone serving or preparing food is required to of course, but someone on a long walk in the woods where they are not near a source of water, is unlikely to do so until they reach one.
people who do not wish “inconsiderate people of any breed or species” for neighbors? 91%
Of people who say they feel loved “a lot”? Not sure why anyone would say they were or weren't.
Of people who have favorable (and unfavorable) views of America? Maybe 1or 2% have ever heard of any of the nations on its planet

Of children living in poverty?
No one is known to be houseless nor food insecure.
Symbolic value as a concept is mostly meaningless outside of a relatively small number of villages.
Of people who consider themselves a “convinced atheist”? Again meaningless term.
Less then 3% hate logic, and not hating logic, recognize the unknown as being unknown.
Of people having had themselves genetically altered to more closely resemble other species then they were born as, or one entirely of their personal design:roughly 47%

Does your country....
Use the metric system? An equivalent hexidecimal system based on our having 8 digits on each forepaw
Have right hand traffic? Or left hand? Dependent on local custom and signalling systems,
nearly all travel, other then extreme wilderness, is by public small form factor rail and monorail
Have McDonald’s? no
Have Starbucks? no
Accept foreigners? yes
sexuality? Is not judged nor regulated in any way. Instead there are naturally occuring substances in air and water that inhibit sapient fertility.

What is your nation’s...

Most popular social media site?

Other (there are no social media sites as such, just thousands of indipendent focused intrest oriented forums and image and animation sharing spaces).

Most consumed alcoholic beverage?

The most common form of mind altering substance is a tea, brewed from a root.
It does not contain the familiy of compounds known as alcohols, but is certainly potent.
The consumption of mind altering substances is not unknow but is not common,
and there is no industry, lawful or otherwise, sustained by demand for them.

Highest paying job?
Is really up to negotiation between requestor and fullfiller.

Number of billionaires? Concepts of symbolic value are meaningless

Most popular messaging app?

[x]: Other (l.a.n. And w.a.n. email)

Largest religion?
> Other (nalanuthu. Lit; way or path in the mountans)

Fastest posted speed limit?
as nearly all travel is by public conveyance, and there are few publicly maintained roadways, none are required

marital relationships?
Gay marriage is legal, as are multi-spousel marriages of all genders and sapient species.

Coffee consumption per capita? We consume lubintau, which is a mocha equivalent. Not something we measure, other then to note its commonality. A majority of cameroi consume 1-3 cups/day

Most popular sport?
[x]: Other (competitive sports are not a popular form of entertainment.
Some things that might in other places be considered sports are not uncommon, but they are not generally engaged in competitively, closest thing to it would be going for a long walk,
as quietly as possible to try and see how many species of feral creatures can be observed)

Most used web browser?
Actually our internet is more like a w.a.n. Linking local village l.a.n.'s
though we do have universal access protocals and formats for images, animations and simulated environments.
[x]: Other (firefox would be a close approximation of common user interface)

Press freedom?
[x]: Good

Fertility rate?
[x]: 0-2 children per adult family member is common.
families typically include more then four adult members, though more then six is uncommon.
51% of the adult population however, happily spend their entire lives unmarried, and without progeny.

Writing system?
[x]: Other (lananaran, resembles katana in form, i.e. phonetic index)

Average number of Cigarettes Smoked per person?
Tobacco is unknown. Consumption of mind altering substances of any nature is rare but not unknown
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"

Tsaritsyn's real problem is its relativley small size for a capital, being only half the size of the largest city in the nation, Nayezdnikograd. Tsaritsyn is a very old city, which makes it technologically weaker than most of the country. Tsaritsyn's final weakness is it's lack of good infrastructure. While Tsaritsyn dose have underground bullet train system, however this is its only infrastructure system other than the roads. The only other real options for another capital is Nayezdnikograd tutuapp routing numbers

Greater Britain - Sentient Nonhumans Survey

Postby Thedish Greater Britain » Wed Jun 16, 2021 1:04 am

Sentient Nonhumans Survey
Is your nation primarily inhabited by humans?
    Yes, it is.
Is your nation primarily inhabited by humanoids?
    No, it is not.

Are there any sentient nonhumans present in your nation?
No, there are not. Sentient nonhumans are an unknown to any and all Britons.
Are there any nonhuman humanoids present in your nation (Klingons, Vulcans, Nekos, Elves, etc)?
No, there are not. They, like sentient nonhumans, are an unknown.
Are there any sentient AI present in your nation?
No, there are not. AI technology has been improving, but it has not yet reached the point which may see AI becoming sentient.
Roughly how common are the various sentient species of your nation in % of total population?
    N/A

If your nation has multiple sentient species, do they have equal rights?
N/A; were there any nonhuman sentient species present in the Kingdom, they would not be granted equal rights - at least, not without earning them. Human supremacy would be the state position were sentient nonhumans encountered.
If not, what are the differences in rights?
Sentient nonhumans would be illegible for citizenship nor would human rights be applicable to them. Thus the difference in rights is great.
If your nation has sentient AI, do they have equal rights to organics?
N/A; the topic of AI and rights is a topic often discussed by science fiction fans and future theorists, but it is not something being considered by the government.
If not, what are the differences in rights?
Any future sentient AI would be considered property and illegible for any rights held by humans. There’s currently no plan to examine AI and potential AI rights within the government.

Greater Britain - Indigenous Population Survey

Postby Thedish Greater Britain » Wed Jun 16, 2021 1:47 am

Is the majority population indigenous to your nation?
A difficult question that could perhaps be best answered as ‘yes and no’. I will thus fill both sections.

If yes:
Are they proud of their heritage?
Yes, the significant majority of Englishmen and other Briten are proud of their heritage and their ancestors. Historical education includes ample opportunities for children to display their pride and participate in interactive activities related to their national heritage and identity, though there is an emphasis on joint heritage whenever English and other British heritage may be at odds.

Has there been a history of their oppression or removal from their land?
English Briten had endured ethnic cleansing during the Middle Ages from what was considered by the Scottish king to be Lower Scotland. This has since been rectified and the Lowlands are once again majority English.
Englishmen had also been removed in some rare cases by Norse settlement during the Viking Age. The Norman French had also ethnically cleansed England’s aristocracy during their occupation of England.

Have they ever conquered or colonized other nation's indigenous populations?
Yes, British colonialism was global and many other nations were colonised by Britain’s people.

Overall, how much does your people's indigenous heritage affect them, politics, and the nation in general?
Indigeneity, or thedishness, is currently celebrated and the government strongly supports native interests and politics. English culture and traditions are key elements of schooling and wider culture is encouraged to remain true to native culture. Folk songs are very popular as well as native dress, dance and food. This is likewise true in Scotland, Wales and Cornwall, where Scots, Brits and Cornish are strongest but have fused with the English culture now endemic to those regions.

If no:
Is there an indigenous group from the land your people inhabit?
The Welsh were the occupying inhabitants of what’s now England during the Germanic migrations of the early first millennium AD. The culture known as Brits is the largely Anglicised descendant of the eastern Welsh.
If so, have they been repressed by the majority?
The culture of the Welsh had been repressed and suppressed by English rulers during the Middle Ages, though this had lightened some time after and even more so as Welsh became Brits.
Have they been removed from their land?
The Welsh before inhabited all of what’s now England, now the majority of their descendants live in Wales, which is part of England.
Is there active resistance to the majority's rule over the indigenous population?
No, there is not. Britsen and Englishmen have lived side-by-side for centuries and have grown fond and familiar with each other.
Is there conflict between indigenous groups and the majority?
No, whatever conflict remains is more a topic for banter and humour than anything serious.
Overall, how much does your people's foreign heritage affect them, politics, and the nation in general?
The majority of Britsen are proud of their heritage and partake in Brits culture, which is considered by some but not all to be a subculture of the overarching Anglobritish culture, which is openly encouraged by the state and institutionalised.

Greater Britain - Naming Customs Survey

Naming customs in YN
Nation name:
Kingdom of the Britons; Greater Britain
National languages:
    English, Scots, Brits, Irish

In YN ...
How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type):
Given names, also known as forenames or Christian names (Cristish nam[e]s), are traditionally given to a child upon their christening and chosen from amongst any name the parents wish for their child, usually a name of biblical, English or British origin. Middle names are given in honour of elder family members, such as a grandfather or aunt.
How are family names determined? (quantity, type):
Family names, otherwise called tonames, are automatically given to a child that isn’t a bastard. Only 1 family name is given to any individual whose parents are wed, and are generally topographic in nature or mean "descended from (ancestor)". A bastard can be granted a family name if they’re legitimised and can choose between either of their parents’ family names, though both parents must agree to either choice.
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?:
Patronymic and matronymic names are always given to someone born in Greater Britain. Children of wed parents are given a patronymic name (examples: Haroldsson, Arthursson), while bastards are generally given the patronymic/matronymic of whoever has custody of them, usually the mother (examples: Edithsson, Marysson). Patronymic/matronymic names for women end in -dauhter.
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?:
Titles are always placed before the full name and usually used with the family name or full name, not with the given name or patronymic on its own unless it’s to address someone from amongst a group of people whom some they may share a family name with. Thus the most distinctive name is used, with order of preference from family name to patronymic/matronymic to given name. Titles include Hor (Mr), Frow (Mrs), Frowle (diminutive of Frow) and Goncer (Master).
How is a full name formatted?:
Full names are formatted as thus: [FORE] [PAT/MAT] [MID] [TO].
Do family names differ for males and females?:
Family names do not differ between men and women, at least not usually. Women have traditionally inherited the same family names as their brothers or fathers. Women’s family names are called “maiden names” after marriage because they replace their birth family name with the family name of their husband, or hyphenate the family names if the woman is of particularly high birth and the families of both bride and groom have agreed to it.
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?:
Yes, the woman takes upon the family name if the husband unless they're hyphenated as aforementioned.
Can people change their name? If so, how?:
Individuals can legally change their name to any other name provided they’re of right age or above and provided the name they wish to change to is biblical, English, Scots or Brits. They can anglicise the name if it is of other origin. Family names and patronymic/matronymic names can be changed to that of either parent (example: Edwarding to Edinburger, Oswinsson to Alfrithsson). This is generally done with the intention of cutting off connection to a family or parent they no longer wish to be associated with.

Do immigrants have to take a name in the national language?:
Yes, or at least anglicise their name(s).

Give an example of a full male name from YN:
    Iohannes Edwardsson Alfred Sigewarding (non-bastard)
Give an example of a full female name from YN:
    Martha Godifsdauhter Angleseyer
