For governmental purposes, whatever day of the week September 3rd falls on is counted as the first day of the week for that fiscal year.

In common society, Sunday indicates the start of a week.

Naming customs in YN
Nation name: Arthropol
National languages: French and various regional languages including Occitan, Arpitan, Basque, Corsican, etc.

In YN ...
How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type): Children must have at least one given name, but usually have at least three. The first given name is usually in French. Of the following given names, it common practice for children to receive at least one French name of their grandparent or other ancestor and one name from the regional language of their area. Among immigrants, it is also common to add a name from their native language and culture. It is up to the parents' discretion to choose the number and type of given names. On legal documents, people are always referred to by the first given name, but in daily use people can use any of their given names as their preferred name.
How are family names determined? (quantity, type): The parents choose whether the child takes the surname of the father, mother or a combination. However, in over 90% of births, the father's surname is used.
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?: No. People who wish to use other types of names generally legally register them as one of their given names or exclude it from their legal name.
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?: Monsieur (M. or Mr - less common) means Mr and is used for all males. Madame (Mme) means Ms and is used for all females officially. However, Mademoiselle (Mlle), which was historically used for unmarried women, is still informally used for young women. Docteur (Dr) is used for only medical doctors, not people with doctorates in other disciplines.
How is a full name formatted?: Title Given names Family name
Do family names differ for males and females?: No
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?: No, but the family is referred to by the name of the husband (unless the wife is more notable/famous).
Can people change their name? If so, how?: Yes, by applying at a government office with a valid reason.
Do immigrants have to take a name in the national language?: They must use their original name, but if they are a citizen, they may apply to change their legal name. If their original name is not in Latin characters, the original as well as a transcription into the French alphabet is included on legal documents.

Give an example of a full male name from YN: M. (Title) Charles (1st given name) Andoni (Basque regional language) Pierre (grandfather's name) Louis Alexandre (parent choices) José (Parent's Spanish immigrant background) Dupont (father's family name) - M. Charles Andoni Pierre Louis Alexandre José Dupont
Give an example of a full female name from YN: Mme (Title) Marie (1st given name) Louise (grandmother's name) Jeanne (parent choice) Mirèio (Occitan regional language) Martin (father's family name) - Mme Marie Louise Jeanne Mirèio Martin

Naming customs in YN
Nation name: Greater Federal Republic of Caleon
National languages: Caleonian, German (same writing, different pronunciation structure)

In YN ...
How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type): Names are given at birth by their parents for social purposes. However, the government does not keep track of these names outside of those trying to give their children names banned in Caleon (for political reasons involving former exiled governments), and instead at age three (or when the dominant arm is determined) implant a minuscule ID chip just under the skin in the non-dominant arm. This is given to authorize the person’s ID #, DOB, SSID, Height, Weight, and other extraneous factors. The ID chip scans the person’s height and weight once a month.
How are family names determined? (quantity, type): Usually at birth, as Caleon does not have a recognized last naming system, the child takes on the father’s first name as its surname until the ID is implanted, at which the surname is unofficially removed.
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?: No.
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?: The only titles are given to ones with PhD or other doctorate-based graduates. It’s usually said as Dr. (first name) in social groups.
How is a full name formatted?:

For Governmental Purposes-
CGB(V/S**)(I/G*)-XXXXXX
CKB(V/S)(I/G)-XXXXXX
CMB(V/S)(I/G)-XXXXXX
CDB(V/S)(I/G)-XXXXXX
*The I/B represents if you are an immigrant or a citizen of birth. Immigrants have an I, born citizens have a G.
**The V/S represents your marital status, that being married (verheiratet) or single.
The full meaning of this ID is Caleon [Federation Name of Location, as Caleon is made up of 4 Federations, the largest of which is Caleon] Married/Single Citizen (Bürger in Caleonian) of Birth/Immigrancy-ID NUMBER GIVEN HERE.

In Social Aspects-
FIRSTNAME LASTINITIAL

Do family names differ for males and females?: Not typically.
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?: As the whole “no last name” thing happens, the “wife” in the marriage typically adopts the “husband”’s first letter of their first name as their last initial.
Can people change their name? If so, how?: Because Caleon doesn’t keep track of people via conventional naming standards, Caleonian citizens can change their social name at any time. However you cannot change your ID number.
Do immigrants have to take a name in the national language?: No.

Give an example of a full male name from YN: CGBVB-1234567890, socially known as Brett V.
Give an example of a full female name from YN: CKBVI-9876543210, socially known as Melissa B. Melissa is married to Brett.

Does your nation have an official language(s)?: Yes.
If so, what language(s) are recognized as official?: lananaran.
Does your nation recognize any languages other than the official one(s)?: yes.
If so, what language(s) are also recognized?: every indiginous language that was ever spoken within its territory.
Does your nation attempt to regulate their official language(s) in any form?: lananaran is a planet wide second language so it isn't up to any one nation to do so.
If not, are you a member of a language academy relating to your nation's language(s)?: in a manor of speaking.
Does your nation attempt to promote the usage of the official language(s), if so, how?: Yes. It is genearally considered the default language of the planet.
Are there special exceptions granted regarding your nation's usage policy towards its official language(s)?: there is no requirement to use or even know it, except on signage, in education, and on government business.

How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type):middle names are unknown, as are patranymics. Locatives are used instead of patranymics. As for the generation of personal names, alternating consonants and vowels are generated by rolling polyhidral dice. (multiple honorifics following the locative are not uncommon however.)
How are family names determined? (quantity, type):mother's father's place of birth, though individuals own place (village or district) of birth are the increasingly more common alternative.
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?:locatives are almost universally used, where a second name is used at all.
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?:"low person" is the honorific for all elected postions. and yes we have the equivelant of "doctor" for persons of advanced expetese in their field. (this comes after the locative, as with any other honorific)
How is a full name formatted?:{personal name}OF{locative} (where aplicable this may be followed by: {honorific}of{locative of honorific}, of which multiple are possible) (i.e.: themnax of lananara, low person of the council of low persons of the universe and symbol of the council of low persons of lananara. which translates as abassador to the galactic council from lananara)
Do family names differ for males and females?:in some of cameroi's predicessor indiginous cultures, female personal names end with a vowel while male personal names are closed with an added consonant.
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?:marriages typically involve multiple partners of all genders sharing some common hobby or professional interest. Locative would then become the actual location where such a marriage sets up their household
Can people change their name? If so, how?: everyone renames themselves at puberty, actually as a kind of commemeration of the initiallization of pujzhush, our traditional intereducational sabatical. Generally the name they give themseleves at that time is kept for the rest of their lives. Proceedures for renaming would depend on the local community. The option exists in many, but is seldom practiced.

Naming customs in YN
Nation name: The Empire of Aikoland
National languages: French

In YN ...
How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type): Given names are chosen by the parents, with it being most common nowadays to have two given names, but having only one or more than two given names is not unheard of. Usually given names after the first one are taken from grandparents or other family members, but having secondary given names taken from Catholic saints is not unusual, especially amongst older Aikolandais. Regardless of the number of given names one has, only one will be regularly used in a person's everyday life, with the others being relegated to official documents. The Aikolandais Government has the authority to reject any given names chosen for a child, but this is only done in cases where parents are attempting to name their child something vulgar, obscene, or offensive.
How are family names determined? (quantity, type): Parents choose if their child will take their father's surname, their mother's, or a hyphenation of both. Of note is that there is no limitation on the hyphenation of surnames, so it is possible for an Aikolandais to have a family name consisting of many surnames. (Just like with having multiple given names, most Aikolandais with a hyphenated surname consisting of more than two surnames will only use one or two parts of their surname in daily life, with the rest only being used in official documents)
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?: They are not, if one wishes to use them, they must be registered as either part of their given name or family name.
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?: Monsieur is used for all men, madame is used for married women, and mademoiselle is used for unmarried women. Docteur is used for those who practise medicine, even though those who hold other doctorates can legally use the title.
How is a full name formatted?: [Title] [Given Name(s)] [Family Name]
Do family names differ for males and females?: No.
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?: There is no legal requirement to do so, but one can opt to take their spouse's family name if they desire. Regardless of whether or not they take a married name, one's legally recognised family name remains unchanged.
Can people change their name? If so, how?: Changing one's name requires nothing more than applying for a legal name change at a local government office and paying a 20₣ processing fee. As with when parents choose a child's name, the government can reject name changes that would involve changing one's name to something vulgar, obscene, or offensive and will refund the 20 francs along with the notice of rejection.
Do immigrants have to take a name in the national language?: Until 1983, immigrants were required to register under a French-language name when becoming citizens, which would then be utilised as their legal name in all circumstances. Since 1983, however, immigrants can register their names in their native language(s) (excepting if their native language does not use the Latin alphabet, in which case they must register the Romanized form of their name). In addition, the Aikolandais Government allows immigrants (or their descendants) who registered a French-language name when becoming a citizen prior to 1983 to change their legal name back to their native name without payment of the 20₣ processing fee.

Are there any nations here who have legal civil unions for both/either heterosexual and/or homosexual couples. Since civil unions are usually asosciated with LGBT Rights, are there any nations who also allow civil unions for straight couples as well?

For example Margeaux Tortune is in a civil union with Dominic Thomsen and they are a straight couple.

I am just genuinely asking.

Is the Military as an institution viewed positively or negatively by the public (and which groups view it positively/negatively)?: the military as an institution is viewed extremely positively by people in the South of England, London and the Midlands as well as amongst Muslims in working-class Yorkshire towns such as Bradford, Huddersfield and Burnley.
It is frowned upon in the North-East (due to the militaries role in upholding the will of the locally unpopular government) and hated in Middlesbrough (due to their role in enforcing the unpopular COVID-19 lockdown).
In the North-West many young men aspire to be soldiers but conscription is viewed with suspicion.

Are officers viewed positively or negatively?:commissioned officers are viewed positively amongst the upper and middle classes especially southern English whites and Asians.
They are viewed negatively by the working-class in the North-East and by Catholics in Northern Ireland.

What qualities are officers viewed as having?: depends on the individual but intelligence is commonly admitted, even by those who dislike them.

Are soldiers viewed positively or negatively?: positively except in parts of North-East England and parts of Northern Ireland.

What qualities are soldiers viewed as having?:
Bravery.

How does the Military influence society?:
Providing employment, education and training and supporting the police in times of crisis.

How does society influence the Military?:
Laws, morality, that kind of thing.

Are there any festivals linked to the Military?: Remembrance Day but it’s not really a festival.

Naming customs in YN
Nation name: Empire of Chiloshia
National languages: Močıloš (Chiloshian)

In YN ...
How are given names usually chosen (including middle names)? (quantity, type): A single true, official given name is chosen by the parents, used in legal, technical and certain formal circumstances. It typically will either match the sex of the baby in noun class (male human vs female human) or be of a neutral noun class, most typically when the name is a nominalized adjective for a virtue (a common source of names)
How are family names determined? (quantity, type): Family names are inherited patronymically. They come from a variety of etymological sources.
Besides given and family names, are other types of names (such as a patronymic) used?: Nicknames are a big deal in Chiloshian culture, people will often have several and it is the common way for people to refer to each other. The parents will give one, friends another, love interests will give one, formal subordinates will refer to you as an aunt or uncle (or by your rank in the military). This is actually part of a culture of given-name avoidance. Only parental and romantic nicknames will even dare base themselves directly off of the true name, where as friendship nicknames will describe traits and features, the place of meeting or ones hometown/country if they are outside of it, ones occupation, etc
How are titles (such as Mr, Mrs, Dr) used?: They precede the surname, or are used alone in casual parlance. There are ones based on social status, occupation, relative age, etc.
How is a full name formatted?: Title-Given-Surname in law, Given-Surname-(possibly suggested Nickname) in introductions.
Do family names differ for males and females?: No
When a couple marries, does one take a married name?: No, but children always have their father's name.
Can people change their name? If so, how?: Not their legal name, but they can direct the formation of their nicknames to a certain extent (though not fully)
Do immigrants have to take a name in the national language?: Not legally, most will be given a nickname, and maybe a formal (religious) given name if they adopt the ethnic pantheon.
H.I.M, DACU II, FIRST EMPEROR OF HOUSE KÆBEGIŠ, IS CROWNED.

Presumably he likes 16 or 17 year old girls,
If so the younger generation (18-23) would punch the person harassing him (if the harasser was male), the WW2 veterans would try to mediate the situation and the middle-aged would join in the harassment.

A child bullied by other children in school grounds for a particular reason (e.g. wearing pink):
Depends if they felt the reason was fair.

A child bullied by others for no particular reason, or because it seemed fun to pick on the child:
Punch the bullies (if adult male), tell a teacher (if a child), call the police (if an adult female)
An adult steals the wallet, smartphone, or any property of value (or contains something value) of another person:
Tackle them.
An elderly steals the wallet, smartphone, or any property of value (or contains something value) of another person:
Call the police
A child steals the wallet, smartphone, or any property of value (or contains something value) of another person:
Call their parents
A pregnant woman denied abortion before the second trimester: allow her to have an abortion

A pregnant woman denied abortion during or after the second trimester, or when the woman is very close to giving birth:
Probably get the police arrest the woman for late-stage abortion (human rights begin at 18 weeks, when the foetus is a sentient baby).
A foreign tourist/couple visits your country and acts rudely or does something that is considered rude in your country's culture(s): explain its rude.

Mode of Production Survey
Does the state (or lack thereof) officially describe itself as communist, socialist, capitalist, or other? Neither, however capitalism is a common description.

If so, is this describer accurate? To a certain extent, as generally most industry is controlled by private interest.

Regardless of official describers, which mode of production or economic system dominates your society? Capitalist

Does your nation have a state, or a class of people that hold power over the rest of the population?

If so, is this state formed from the proletariat, a bureaucracy, a small group of conspirators, or something else entirely?

If it is formed from the proletariat, how is this power exercised in practice?

Are members of the state elected? Are they recallable?

Is the society in your nation described as anarchist in nature?

Does your nation possess money, property, a state, and/or classes?

If yes, is the State (or lack thereof) dedicated to eventually abolishing them?

Are there commodities (products that are created to be exchanged) in your nation?

Does your nation adopt communist principles for scientific, utopian, or religious reasons?

Does your nation seek to expand communism beyond its own borders?

Please place an X in all boxes that describe your nations implementation of communism.

Do workers own and control their own workplaces?

Does the nation seek to expand socialism beyond its own borders?

Does your state have an interpretation of socialism that retains private property?

Would you describe the nation as revolutionary, pacifist, or authoritarian/totalitarian?

Does your nation's economy operate on a market system with private property?

Are economic and political concerns considered separate matters? Usually yes, with interferences depending on the general welfare of the people.

Does your nation operate on a barter economy? No, money is the medium of exchange.

Is the state dedicated to defending capitalism? No, as it is mostly interesting in regulating markets and businesses.

Does the state wish to spread capitalism beyond its own borders? No.

Does the state own any public industry, and if so, does it operate under the same market mechanisms as private property? Yes, depends on industry. Railroads are generally run as public goods, and not under market logic, while nationalised energy firms are commanded to behave under market logic.

Is the political system controlled by the bourgeoisie, a bureaucracy, democratic representatives, a monarch, or other group or individual? Usually a coalition of landed aristocracy, who operate estates, urban capitalist class, petit-bourgeouis producers, all under the King.

Is the nation generally described as anti-socialist or anti-capitalist? Neither, however socialist parties generally face political restrictions, and capitalism is seen as more of economic model rather than a political idea.

Cavirfi wrote:Are there any nations here who have legal civil unions for both/either heterosexual and/or homosexual couples. Since civil unions are usually asosciated with LGBT Rights, are there any nations who also allow civil unions for straight couples as well?

For example Margeaux Tortune is in a civil union with Dominic Thomsen and they are a straight couple.

I am just genuinely asking.

In Wochaystein (and the rest of Diarcesia), marriage is a subset of civil unions. All marriages are civil unions, but not all civil unions are marriages.
