Does your nation have a Red Cross, Red Crescent, or other Red society? Ruritane has a Red Magen society. Essentially like any other Red society, except they have decided to adopt the Star of David as its logo. The Star of David is called the Magen David in Hebrew.
When was it founded? The Red Magen was founded right after WW1 to help anyone of any religion, race, color, or creed, but most especially Jews. The Red Magen helped in WW2, since they would investigate Nazi Germany's conditions and camps more thoroughly than the Red Cross. However, the Red Magen also hindered in WW2, as individual nurses would refuse to help Nazis.
Where are its headquarters? The Red Magen HQ is a skyscraper on 102 Rue de Magen Rouge, Lutetia, Major Ruritane. That's where it was founded, and that's where it will stay. Of course, it wasn't a skyscraper when it was founded.

I. Questions of Place.

Describe the geography of where your society calls home.
Coniferous forests make up most of the geography in the area, however, there are many lakes and a few mountains.
Describe the climate your society deals with. How severe are their seasons?
Generally cold. Summer and spring are the only times it is possible to grow anything, autumn brings windstorms and blizzards are common in winter.
What kinds of natural disasters has this society gotten used to?
Windstorms in autumn and blizzards in winter.
What importance (spiritual or cultural) do people ascribe to the geography?
Namabian culture personifies the seasons.
How do people feel about local landscapes being altered or used for a purpose other than what is traditional?
Generally, most people are okay with slight alteration but will certainly defend rich environments.
What are the most commonly-grown foods?
Apples, potatoes, gooseberries and plums are grown in the warmer seasons.
What are the most commonly-eaten meats?
Seafood, specifically salmon, is very commonly eaten.
What foods are considered exotic or expensive?
Anything that grows in a warm climate is considered rare (e.g. bananas, oranges, etc.). These foods are much more expensive than those that are grown locally.
What forms of alcohol are common? Rare?
Alcohol is not very common in itself, but the most common alcoholic beverage is wine. Vodka is somewhat common but only drank by those with high alcohol tolerance. Beer is the rarest alcoholic drink, as many Namabians say it is too bitter.
Is there usually enough food and water for the population?
Thanks to global trade, yes.
What is this place's most abundant resource?
Trees.
What is its most valuable resource?
Ore.
What resource is it most lacking?
Agriculture.
How do people travel from one place to another?
For short distances; buses. For long distance travel, trains are used.
Are the borders secure? In what way?
Yes, thanks to the presence of military personnel.
How many people live here?
Ten million.
Where in this place do they congregate?
Town halls are a common place for gatherings.
What part of this place do they avoid? Why?
Pyattinovsk tends to be avoided due to its reputation.
What are the most common domesticated animals here? And what are they domesticated for?
Reindeer as beasts of burden and for milk (since it’s too cold for cows). Sheep are also common, due to their wool being a good clothing material.
What are the most common wild animals? How are wild animals treated?
Both reindeer and brown bears are common. All wild animals are treated with respect.
Which animals are likely to be pets? Which ones won't be?
Reindeer are commonly owned in the country. Dogs are already very common pets and there have been attempts to domesticate bears. However, the bear domestication hasn’t gone very well.
What are the most common domesticated plants here? And what are they used for?
Apple trees are the most common domesticated plants, followed closely by gooseberries. Both are used as a source of food.
What are the most common wild plants here? What are they used for?
Wild strawberries are very common. Young Namabians are often sent out to harvest them in spring, when they’re ripe.

II. Questions of Time.

How far back does this society’s written history go?
Namabi (as a nation) has only existed since 1921.
How far back do its people believe it goes?
1921.
How was this society founded? Who founded it and under what circumstances?
Dimitri Vasiliev unified separately governing entities in a region known as Namyabi.
From the factbook:

‘Namabi’ was simply a region full of separately-governing entities until 1920 when Dimitri Vasiliev decided to unify them into a single nation. He began in Koumarska, moving northwest to Avarnya, before going south. He was forced to stop, however, when Pyattinovsk refused to become part of Namabi. Vasiliev was forced to use the military to ‘convince’ Pyattinovsk to join Namabi. Following that, he continued to unify the rest of the territories, finishing in 1921.

What were the chief powers in the time when this society was founded?
Hermavesk was considered powerful at this time, as was Koumarska.
If it originated far away from here, how did it get here?
N/A.
What is the worst disaster they believe they've faced?
Dead Winter occurred in 1932. The event consisted of early snowfall in autumn, soon building up to an entire winter of blizzards. Crops were almost entirely destroyed, leading to mass famine. Dead Winter is regarded as the worst event in Namabian history.
What are the major events in this culture's past?
The Cultural Renaissance occurred in 1883, in the region where Namabi is located. This event was a reconnection with then-forgotten culture (as the name suggests) and is the reason Namabi is so cultured today.
What was the best thing that ever happened to them?
The Cultural Renaissance is often seen as the best thing that has ever happened in the region.
What in their past makes them feel ashamed?
Many regret the use of force that occurred in order to make Pyattinovsk part of Namabi.
What in their past makes them proud?
Most are proud of the fact that all entities (except Pyattinovsk) in Namabi were able to come together and willingly create a single nation.
What are they afraid of happening again?
Dead Winter.
What are they hoping will happen? Do they think it likely?
Most hope an event similar to the Cultural Renaissance will occur, though they don’t believe it is likely.
How strongly are people attached or connected to their heritage?
Somewhat. Namabians give respect to their heritage where it is due but believe that someone’s family has nothing to do with who they are.
What do they assume the future will hold?
An important scientific discovery seems to be on its way, with the current advancements of scientific study.
How has this society changed? Do its current members realize this?
Namabi has changed from a traditionalist nation to a progressive one very quickly. This has not gone unnoticed, however.
What are the most popular stories about the past?
The tale of the hedgehog is a tale commonly told to young children. It describes how a hedgehog observed Namabi for several decades, seeing no change, then let it be for a few years. When the hedgehog came back, it was stunned to find that the civilisation had become very advanced. This story illustrates how quickly Namabi changed from a traditionalist nation to a progressive one.
Who in the past is the greatest hero? The worst villain?
Dimtri Vasiliev is seen as both the greatest hero and the worst villain of all of Namabi’s history. Some say he was a hero for uniting a group of nations that would have otherwise destroyed themselves, while other say the was too violent and did not allow enough freedom. He also established himself as Tsar, with absolute control of the country.
Do people think the present better or worse than the past?
The present is certainly better than the past for Namabians, as today, Namabi is scientifically advanced, safe and holds on to its culture. Namabians today live in comfort, a huge contrast to the past.
Do people believe the future will be better or worse than the present or past?
Namabians do believe that the future holds great things, but are hesitant to be optimistic. After all, at the beginning of the year, 1932 was expected to be among the greatest years in Namabian history.

III. Questions of Race and Ethnicity.

What are the chief races in the region?
Humans.
What are the chief ethnic groups of each race in the region? How are they distributed in place?
Ethnic Namabians are the most common, though there are Minayaslavic refugees.
How do they differ by language, appearance or ancestry?
Namabian accents are much softer than Minayaslavic ones, and Minayaslavians are almost always refugees who have escaped the dictatorship.
What jobs do the chief ethnicities primarily occupy? Are any groups denied work because of racial or ethnic heritage?
All races are treated the same.
What are typical attitudes of the native (or majority) ethnos to immigrants and other ethnicities?
Ethnic Namabians are usually curious toward the culture of immigrants, and are fascinated when they tell them about it.
How has any variety of ethnicity in the region changed the society’s culture?
There aren’t enough non-ethnic Namabians to change the culture of the nation, which is why Namabians are so fascinated by other cultures’ traditions — they’re usually completely unknown to them.

IV. Questions of Family.

How many spouses may a man or woman have?
One at a time, unless permission is asked from the Department of Marital Affairs.
Who decides on a marriage?
Marriage is only legal if those getting married consent to it.
Can a marriage end in divorce? How?
Yes. This is the job of the Department of Marital Affairs.
Who usually takes custody of children if a marriage ends for some reason?
The children are free to choose if they wish to. However, they are not forced to. If this is the case, the children would go to whichever parent would raise them best. Another option is that the children are put in government care.
How are families named?
If the child is assigned male at birth, they take the surname of their biological father. If assigned female, they take their biological mother’s surname. Citizens are free to change their surname to one of those of their biological parents and their legal guardians if they wish to do so.
What happens to orphans?
They are placed in government care and may be adopted if they consent to it.
How are boy and girl children treated differently?
They aren’t. They are treated in a way suitable to their personality.
What, if anything, is considered a good marriage gift?
What inanimate or sexless things are considered male or female?
They are not given a gender.
Does this society connect the ideas of marriage with love?
Yes.
How big are families, typically?
Usually 1-2 parents with 1-2 children.
What constitutes a household? How many people live in one household? How many generations?
One family (see above) typically lives in a single family home. However, the majority of Namabians live by themselves in their own home. A household in Namabi is simply a house.
Are girls or boys preferred and why?
Neither are preferred.
How common is domestic violence? Is it understood to be a problem, or a normal aspect of family life?
It is understood to be a problem.
If it is seen as problematic, what is being done about it?
If somebody feels unsafe in their home, they must call the police. There are also violence prevention programs in Namabi and organisations made specifically to deal with domestic violence.

V. Questions of Customs and Social Life.

What colors are associated with power? With virtue? With death?
Blue is associated with power, green with virtue and grey with death.
If two men get into a fight, how is this supposed to be resolved?
If it is violent, it becomes assault and police should be called. Otherwise, keep your distance and try to break up the fight while also not endangering yourself.
If two women get into a fight, how should that be resolved?
See above.
How do people demonstrate grief?
Crying and tapping your fingers together slowly are both demonstrations of grief.
Who inherits property? Titles? Position?
Inheritance has been abolished in Namabi.
What are the most popular games? How important are they?
Games are not considered important to society, but rather a relaxation activity.
When and how does someone go from child to adult?
As soon as they become 20 years old, someone is considered an adult. They traditionally also light a stick and throw it into a lake, though this is uncommon.
How much free time do people usually get?
8 hours, on average.
What do they spend this time doing?
Photography is a common pastime, as are reading and writing. Namabians usually spend their free time doing a quiet activity.
Is society segregated in any way?
No.
What social classes or divisions exist in this society?
Divisions in society depend on what kind of job somebody does. Essential workers and experts in a field are more respected than others.
If so, can people move from one class to another? Are there any benefits to being of one class over another?
The only benefit of being an essential worker or expert is more respect.
Is there any discrimination against minority groups (racial, ethnic, religious) in this society?
No. At least, no visible discrimination.
How independent or codependent are individuals?
Individuals are very independent in their daily lives.
What are the typical roles of women and men? What are the expectations of children?
Men and women don’t have typical roles, but children are expected to help their parents when they can.
Does the government play a large part in people’s lives?
Yes, as all services are nationalised.
Does religion play a large part in people’s lives?
No.

Food
Describe how daily food is obtained.
Usually bought that week, though some food is harvested (e.g. wild berries).
What type of foods are most popular?
Savoury foods and, surprisingly, rice.
What are typical dishes and specialties of the region?
None, specifically, but Namabi’s specialty seems to be making hundreds of meals from the same few ingredients.
What type of food is the locality or region famous for?
See above.
What cutlery, if any, do people use for cooking and eating?
Only a spoon is usually required for eating.
How is the table arranged?
A spoon is placed on the plate. In front of the plate, there is an assortment of spices and extra cutlery, as well as a box of tissues.
How do people sit when eating? Is there any arrangement by age or dignity of diners?
There is no particular seating arrangement.
