Are heatwaves common in your nation? Yes in summer.
If they are, how long do they last in average? Genrally not longer then a week, followed by large thunderstorms that cool things down to a more sane temperature. If it lasts too long, we bring in weatherponies to get some rainclouds in.
Which was the record high temperature? 50C
Are out of season heatwaves possible in YN? We had one in December 1993 that was 20C-a heatwave compared to the normal temperature then.

This is a post created by me. Thanks for putting it here, the right place. Are heatwaves common in your nation?

Here in Zárate-Campana, heatwaves are really common during summertime, reaching temperatures around 35-45C (95-114F). The highest temperature ever recorded here was 48.7C (119.67F) on Dec 24, 2002 during a period locally known as "The 2002-2003 New Year's Hot Gift". It was part of a twenty eight consecutive days heatwave, starting on November 26, 2002. The heatwave finished on Dec 29th.
The largest off-season heat wave occurred in June 2010, when an atmospheric blockage prevented cold fronts from entering for at least six days. The highest off-season temperature was 36C (97F)

Sapient Nonhumans Survey
Is your nation primarily inhabited by humans? No
Is your nation primarily inhabited by humanoids? Yarme are able assume human form

Are there any sapient nonhumans present in your nation? Yes, almost all of our population.
Are there any nonhuman humanoids present in your nation (Klingons, Vulcans, Nekos, Elves, etc)? Yes, quite a large amount.
Are there any sapient AI present in your nation? Yes, but only in some areas.
Roughly how common are the various sapient species of your nation in % of total population? There are millions of sapient species in Yarmao, they cannot possibly be listed.

If your nation has multiple sapient species, do they have equal rights? Not necessarily, their rights are based on intelligence.
If not, what are the differences in rights? The least intelligent species, the Gho, have rights to free speech, simple work, and privacy, while the Yarme, the Avilienjians, and everyone in between have full rights.
(According to human ‘IQ’ measurements, the Gho have an average score of 22, the Yarme have an average of 173, and the Avilienjians have an average of 586.)

National Animal
What's your nation's national animal?
The moose.
Is it a mammal, a reptile, a bird, or what?
It's a mammal.
Is it in the real world?
Yes.
Is it allowed to be hunted?
Since it's believed to be the species chosen by the gods to rule the country, no.
It it near, at, or surpassing human intelligence?
Surpassing, as in "wise".
What does it's flesh taste like?
How dare you?
How endangered is it?
Least concern
Is it magical?
Except for it's connection to the gods, no.
How was it created? By magic, technology, evolution, or by a god/goddess?
Evolution, just like the rest of us.
Is it allowed to be used as a pet?
Again, how dare you?
Where does it live?
Most of them in the forests, and the Royal Family in the Royal House.
If one were to kill someone, what would people do to it?
If it's part of the Royal Family, people would be confused and afraid. If it's a regular moose, then it would be treated just like a human murderer (which is prison)
What are expensive resources you can get from it?
Guidance, hope, and trust.

Legendary Monster of Nation
Name: King of England
Type: All-Powerful Monarch
Power: 10
Size: Ranges in accordance to who's ruling. Could be 5'1'' or 6'7''
Is it real? Very real and they taxed the hell out of us.
Description: An absolute ruler who controlled half the world at one time. He wore the worst looking coats over extremely tight pants, shirt and shoes, almost as though to keep his real weight a secret. With the movement of his mouth, he could spring about pain and suffering to wherever he pleases, so long that it was under the control of the British Empire.

What cultures is it often mentioned?
Any former colony that has won independence from this horrid beast.
If it is real, is it passive or aggressive?
Very Aggressive.
Where does it live?
The now United Kingdom
When does it become active (if it is dormant)?
Becomes active when bored or angry with its slaves.
Other Notes: while the aforementioned "King of England" lays dormant as of now, rumor speculates he could be back sooner than we think. He also likes fish n' chips.

More of a world building question here for some of the newer users who frequent this forum. Has II/regional interaction basically devolved into closed communities? Based on a cursory reading of active rps and wiki activity, seems like all the competent role players have sequestered themselves away in closed communities.

My region did that for a while with statesmanship, but large historically prominent role play regions like Haven, Greater Dienstad, Atlantian Oceania, Gholgoth, et all were never places thay weren't navigable in some meta sense from other regions, nor did they constrict their lore or foreign policy adventurism to closed communities.

Willink wrote:This is spot on, lol. I posed a similar sort of question yesterday, because I've been here long enough to see the change in composition of rping. In reference to your sig, I joined NS back in 2005 when activity was much higher, rp quality, espcially high quality rping was probably less accomplished than it is now, and 2003, 2004 nations seemed like giants. Back then there were a lot of EE RPs where nations would pick a given IRL year, a blank map, and then claim/create alternate nations and rp those out; that still seems common today, except like half the forum consists of nations that are just alternate versions of existing nations.

What I was lamenting was this:

https://iiwiki.us/mediawiki/index.php?t ... s+by&go=Go

Nothing against any of these posters, because I'm sure they are good roleplayers. In fact, quality RP seems to be even better and lore well thought out than when I last left NS. But you have all these "closed pseudo earths/ace combat strangerealisms" where every nation is a republic or monarchy, all are pop capped, all are members of the same pseudo-UN type organization, all are explicitly based, just on cursory readings of their lore on extant nations; throw a rock and you have five different slightly Armenian or South Slavic or latin nations whose "created languages" are just renamed versions of existing languages, and all are by design cut off from the rest of the NS universe. Eventually with a closed group like that you just run out of replacement people. My region used to have 80 posters, multiple regions of puppets, massive activity, and now it has dwindled to like five people.

Of course, you are free to cultivate whatever sort of nation you want in a meta sense, that's the point of the game. But there's still some posters around I see who fit in that old box; Pacitalia, Sarzonia in the NS subforum, Macabees is still kicking around, I've been both allied and fought was against Allanea, Vizion and Shazbotdom came in around the same time as me and seem active. None of these guys are pop capped and actually interacted with the nsmeta writ large, either as part of large intra-region alliances, fought wars against other regions, ran storefronts that sold military equipment to other regions, etc. All of that seems to have been neutered. Plus, for someone like me who has been posting for over ten years, to join a subgroup like that would necessitate retconning a bunch of wars/history built into my own lore that took years to accumulate and cultivate, making the appeal of rping explicitly as some psuedo-earth nation the size of a medium metropolis when I've designed superdreadnoughts and scores of military aircraft, ships, tanks, weapons et al unappealing.

I'd add that most users aren't polymath experts in the first place, of course their nations are going to be based off existing or formerly existing states, they'd don't have the capacity to design constructed languages, or the requisite knowledge to build out unique designs on large aspects of their nations. There's always going to be some suspension of belief when you are creating a fictional state. I like to envision my country as some place, if you are reading my IC posts that a person in your state can actually envision going to and interacting with, as opposed to occupying some alternative dimensional space where any interest on my part is purely intellectual.

Closed-world regions have 100% killed NS RPing (outside of P2TM) and what remains is a desert. You're describing them as RPers but really I don't think that's particularly accurate, they're pretty much exclusively nationbuilders by this point. Of the regions appearing in the IIWiki search you posted: Gaia Project is IIWiki and that's it, the only forum presence it has other than its sign-ups thread is a news thread which has been posted in six times since last year; Esquarium is completely dead; Pardes started back up but it's also dead; Kylaris is the exception and actually sometimes RPs I think; doesn't look like Aeia's doing much RPing; and what even is a Vasarden (checked and it's dead).

Strangereal Earths is a good way to put it. Sometimes a few alternate history elements are included (not too many though, can't get too out of the real-life comfort zone), but otherwise they're just like Earth but with the continents changed up a bit. I mean, yeah, there's just not much point. Those closed-world, so-called "realistic" regions could just use Earth maps and nothing would actually change for them.

It's been completely neutered and there are no new players coming in to join that sort of thing. Maybe they'll start an open RP that gets ignored unless one of the long-time RPers happens upon it and can actually have a way to get involved. Maybe they'll try to join one of the closed-world regions (unlikely) and go through that process, but most of those regions seem to just be recycling the same players over and over again.

Yes, those things could be more realistic, but ultimately I'm not going to place the blame at their door because nobody on this site has the time to become a polymath who knows all that. But I think NS has a large enough playerbase that if the community were a bit more integrated (right now everyone seems distant from one another) people could easily help one another out when it comes to that knowledge.

Is the majority population indigenous to your nation? No
If no:
Is there an indigenous group from the land your people inhabit? No. The first group to colonise Dallona were white Spacers from the wider colonial diaspora (very few, if any, Earthers moved here) and were the majority group until ~60 years ago

If so, have they been repressed by the majority? No, most Dallonans instead recognise the fact that whites are inherently oppressive towards other groups

Have they been removed from their land? Correction - it is not their land, it belongs to all of us

Is there active resistance to the majority's rule over the indigenous population? Resistance from some reactionary/racist elements of our society remains, but we are slowly eliminating this opposition through education, diversification and disenfranchisement

Is there conflict between indigenous groups and the majority? Yes, whites are known to be inherently selfish, discriminatory and not considerate of the needs of other ethnic groups, hence why their influence must be reduced as much as possible

Overall, how much does your people's foreign heritage affect them, politics, and the nation in general? Dallona today is a strong and vibrant multicultural society, in which anybody is free to be who they wish to be. This wouldn't have been possible without our commitment to diversity and our societal values of tolerance and compassion

Mode of Production Survey
Does the state (or lack thereof) officially describe itself as communist, socialist, capitalist, or other? The state simply is, it has no need to describe itself in this way

If so, is this describer accurate? N/A

Regardless of official describers, which mode of production or economic system dominates your society? Statist capitalism/socialism hybrid known as the Common Good

Is property in your nation owned collectively in some fashion? All land & natural resources are owned by the state and either leased out to private individuals/corporations or controlled directly by the state

Does your nation retain market mechanisms? Yes

Please place an X in the boxes that best describe your nation's socialist practices.
[X]Market Socialism
[X]Social Democracy
[X]Democratic Socialism
[X]Other (please specify below)
Our government adheres to a policy of promoting the "Common Good", a set of progressive principles designed to usher in our new society. Both main parties adhere to the Common Good, though there is much debate over some of the details. principles of the Common Good have elements of all of the systems ticked above

Is there a socialist party that holds political dominance? Both main parties adhere to the Common Good

Is there a state at all? Yes

Do workers own and control their own workplaces? No, workplaces are owned by the state and operated either directly (in a minority of cases) or by tenants who lease them from the state

Does the nation seek to expand socialism beyond its own borders? We do of course attempt to persuade other states of our views, and to be seen to do good in the intergalactic community

Does your state have an interpretation of socialism that retains private property? Yes, although in many cases the line between public & private property is extremely blurred
