The Cosmic Mainframe's original nation, now used for everything related to gameplay and the World Assembly.
Lore TL;DR: Essentially, it's a world union with the government of Switzerland and the economy of Revolutionary Catalonia.

Public restrooms in YN

Postby Andocara » Mon Dec 30, 2019 7:33 pm

What are public restrooms (or public toilets or public washrooms) like in YN?

Public restrooms in Andocara (they’re often called Flushrooms in Andocara), have light signals to symbolize rather the stall/toilet is used, or available. Public toilets in Andocara give people more privacy, as they are essentially rooms of their own. So you won’t hear people doing their personal business in an Andocarian restroom. The doors aren’t like those in North America, where you could still see people’s shoes and feet, but they are like normal doors, but with lights that indicate rather the toilet is used or available for use.

What kind of TV shows are they? Mostly drama, some can be seen as dramedies or drillers.
Are they politicized, if so in what way? Before unification, they sometimes had an anti-northern tint, although in recent years and after unification that has changed considerably. Now foreigners, usually Americans and Japanese, fill the shoes of the seasonal villain.
Is their portrayal of the police force generally positive or negative? For television set in the present day, positive, for the television set during Corea's shameful past, negative.
Which police series is the most popular? 장래 / Jangnae.
What is its title? Jangnae means tomorrow.
What kind of TV show is it? Sci-fi detective thriller.
Is its portrayal of the police positive or negative? Positive.
Who is the main character? Officer Rang Young-Ho
Who is the main villain? Agent Wendigo.
Is it politicized if so in what way? It is set in a future, cyberpunk portrayal of Seoul in post-unified Corea. Terrorism is committed by western intelligence operatives in the series.

Is the military an institution viewed positively or negatively by the public(and which groups view it positively/negatively): Positively. Most negative views ended with the end of conscription.

Are officers viewed positively or negatively: Depends on experience. Because officers earn their position by promotion rather than by appointment, they are viewed in a more positive light than some of their international contemporaries.

What qualities are officers viewed as having: A good officer disciplines his unit with respect and would die for his or her unit.

Are soldiers viewed positively or negatively: Positive, especially now that the majority are volunteers or professionals.

What qualities are soldiers viewed as having: During conscription, every male Corean had to be a soldier, so you got everyone. Now, professional soldiers are viewed as brave and self-sacrificial.

How does the military influence society: During conscription, every male was drafted, so the military influenced the lives of every male Corean, which thereby influenced the lives of every female Corean. Today, the military has less influence on society, although its use in domestic projects recently has brought it back from the shadows.

How does society influence the military: During conscription, society was forced into the military, so society controlled the military's sub-culture. Today, the military is starting to develop a sub-culture of its own, but society still influences the military because professional soldiers are allowed to mingle with Corean society regularly.

Are there any festivals linked to the military: Memorial Day (June 6) and Armed Forces Day (October 1).

Language Policy in Haeresia

Does your nation have an official language(s)? Yes
If so, what language(s) are recognized as official? Haeresiac High Latin.
Does your nation recognize any languages other than the official one(s)? Yes
If so, what language(s) are also recognized? Haeresiac Low Latin is the most commonly spoken language; in fact, more people speak Low Latin than High Latin. It is used in practically every setting, but most middle- and high-class Haeresei are expected to be fluent in both languages. After Low Latin, Thulean Norse is also a national language spoken by the indigenous Norse; most have adopted the Latins as their means of communication, but some have kept Thulean Norse, usually spoken at home or in small communities.
Does your nation attempt to regulate their official language(s) in any form? High Latin is regulated by the Academy of Haeresiac High Latin (High Latin: Acadêmîa Latînæ Altæ Hæresiacæ); individuals who flaunt the rules as established by the Academy are seen as ignorant and derision is to be expected. Low Latin, however, is not treated so prescriptively and is free to natural change over time.
If not, are you a member of a language academy relating to your nation's language(s)? n/a
Does your nation attempt to promote the usage of the official language(s), if so, how? As mentioned above, middle- and high-class Haeresei are expected to be proficient in High Latin. The state promotes the usage of High Latin through education and bureaucracy.
Are there special exceptions granted regarding your nation's usage policy towards its official language(s)? As the low-class members of Haeresiac society are not expected to know High Latin, the government employs Low Latin when dealing with them.

Mode of Production Survey
Does the state (or lack thereof) officially describe itself as communist, socialist, capitalist, or other?
The Government of Ravenni officially describes itself as a socialist state on the path to communism.
If so, is this describer accurate?
It is accurate to the original definitions of socialism and communism, though based on modern colloquial definitions, most see it as a Communist state.
Regardless of official describers, which mode of production or economic system dominates your society?
Decentralised operation of the means of production to the communal level, directed through central planning from the central government.
Does your nation have a state, or a class of people that hold power over the rest of the population?
Yes, Ravenni is ruled by the Government of Ravenni.
If so, is this state formed from the proletariat, a bureaucracy, a small group of conspirators, or something else entirely?
The Government of Ravenni is bureaucracy of civil servants, led by popularly elected officials.
If it is formed from the proletariat, how is this power exercised in practice?
N/A
Are members of the state elected? Are they recallable?
Members of Parliament are elected every five years, with free and fair elections, an MMP voting system and universal suffrage to all over the age of 16 inclusive.
Is the society in your nation described as anarchist in nature?
No
Does your nation possess money, property, a state, and/or classes?
The Mark is used as currency for transactions between the individual and the state and international trade. Private property is not recognised, but personal property (as custodianship of land, buildings, items, etc.) is recognised. There is a state. Classes in the Marxist sense (bourgeoisie and proletariat) do not exist, though there continues to be differences in the standard of living between those of different occupations.
If yes, is the State (or lack thereof) dedicated to eventually abolishing them?
The Government of Ravenni envisions its goal of communism as a moneyless, stateless, classless society and continues to work towards that end. The Government of Ravenni will continue to exist until the threat of counterrevolution from internal and external actors ends. The Mark will continue to exist as a form of currency until post-scarcity is achieved and it is no longer required for transactions with foreign entities.
Are there commodities (products that are created to be exchanged) in your nation?
The National Treasury holds gold, silver and oil as commodities for trading with other nations as well as for actual use. Commodities are not held by individuals as such.
Does your nation adopt communist principles for scientific, utopian, or religious reasons?
The Government of Ravenni sees communism as a scientific ideology through the lens of dialectical materialism. It also recognises that the endgoal of communism is a utopian society, and the final stage of historical materialism.
Does your nation seek to expand communism beyond its own borders?
Yes, though Ravenni lacks a military it still seeks to spread communism through covert operations, intelligence, propaganda, funding of communist organisations and acts of genuine solidarity with the international working class.

How do your government officials get around?

The President of the Central Committee has a presidential car, train, plane and starship. Lesser officials are driven by drivers or drive their own cars or skycutters.

Does your nation use Penal Battalions for military service?
Yes.

If your nation does not use penal battalions, ignore the rest of this survey.

What crimes can make you eligible for penal service?

Idleness(wilfully being in neither education, employment or training whilst over the age of 16 and under the age of 60), criminal seduction, public drunkenness, speeding, tax evasion,
Corruption in the role of a noble(but nobles are conscripted to serve in normal regiments as officers not penal battalions)

How many men in your military currently serve as penal troops?
To be decided.
Describe the roles penal troops play in your military.
Mostly Porters&Infantrymen however; the enlistees are given the opportunity to learn a trade.
Are penal troops given any training? If so, describe briefly how.
Yes.
The infantry ones get Infantry Basic Training;
All roles get trained in military drill and taught a trade for if they get de-mobilised.
Describe the relationship between Penal Troops and Normal Soldiers. How would they cooperate on the field?
Very well.
How well are Penal troops equipped compared to Normal Soldiers?
Both are equipped for their roles.
How do conditions of Penal Troops compare to those of Normal Soldiers?[/code]
They are worse;
Penal troops(normally those who are put there for being lazy) are often sent callously to things considered to dangerous to send other men.
A nation which partly represents my views.
