Excuse me, why I can't leave a message on the board in other regions? I can only see other people's messages, there is no text box at the bottom.

The ability to post on other Regional Message Boards is not unrestricted.

For starters, it can only be extended to nations in regions that share embassies with that region and can be restricted to:
- Founders and Delegates of embassy regions
- Officers of embassy regions
- Officers of embassy regions with communications authority
- Any nations located in embassy regions

Your region does not presently have any embassies with other regions and therefore you cannot post in any other RMBs.

How do I make a Table of Contents for my Factbooks?

Postby New Galactic States » Sat May 21, 2022 5:26 pm

So I have this history factbook, and I’m gonna divide fit into different era, but at the beginning I want a WORKING table of contents to each era.

How would I do so?

Code: Select all
[floatleft][sidebar][center]Contents[/center]
[url=factbookurlhere]1. History 1[/url]
[url=factbookurlhere]2. History 2[/url]
[url=factbookurlhere]3. History 3[/url][/sidebar][/floatleft]

this should work, probably.

you will also need to insert
Code: Select all
[anchor=XXX]Section title[/anchor]
at every section title and the factbook url should go factbookurl=XXX (whatever you chose your anchor to be)

You could also do something like this for an effective table of contents

Code: Select all
[floatleft][box][center]Contents[/center]
[url=#example]1. Example[/url][/box][/floatleft]

[anchor=example][/anchor]

Hope that helps at all

Instead of using [url=factbookurlhere], use this:

Code: Select all
[url=#text]Text[/url]

[anchor=text][/anchor]

So, as an example, your table would look like this:
Code: Select all
[floatleft][sidebar][center]Contents[/center]
[url=#solage]1. Sol Age (2022 - 2100)[/url][/sidebar][/floatleft]

[anchor=solage][/anchor][box][b]The Sol Age[/b]
• 2022 - Artemis Mission to Moon
• 2024-2030 - Colonization of The Moon
[rest of these items...][/box]

Hope that helps

Hello All,

I am going to create a government factbook soon to go into details of the workings of my country's government, and I wanted to ask if anyone knew of some good factbooks or guides to creating an adequate description.

I would like to go into substantial detail, so a more detailed guide/example would be preferable.

Hello Trivega,

If it would only be about the cities, I would put it in economy or geography.

Economy would be more useful for a description of the cities in terms of the industries, resources, etc, and geography if their climate and local natural and social environments are being focused upon.

Also, it should be noted that there is a maximum to the number of factbooks a nation can have, so one might use dispatches (linked to some form of overview factbook) for such a thing as well - I would use Account/Trade or Account/Culture for this.

Still, this is just my personal opinion, and of course by no means absolute.

Question:

My nation is supposed to be an ethnic Irish settler nation founded by Irish Catholic emigres in the mid-19th century, and they are later joined by subsequent groups of famine refugees, Fenian fighters, and exiled Irish Repurblicans. Essentially this is supposed to be an Irish version of Israel. Other settler groups will include disgruntled Irish-Americans, Catholic Scottish Highlanders fleeing the Clearances, and some Catholic peers from England.

The only question is I'm not sure what type of Irish it would make sense for Clogheen to be. Should it be English-speaking or Gaelic-speaking? Should it be Roman Catholic or attempt to become some indigeneous Celtic Christianity or even Celtic Paganism?

The nature of the state means that its founding elite is going to be staunchly conservative and Catholic. However, the Catholic Church in Ireland promoted the English language and was against Gaelicization. So by default there will be many conservative English speakers. However, the famine refugees are going to primarily be Gaelic speaking. The later groups of Fenians and Republics are going to be educated, urbanized, English-speaking, and include a few Protestants. I'm having trouble envisioning how these groups would relate and who would come out on top.

Would it make sense for Clogheen to be English-speaking and staunchly Catholic? Or Gaelic and practicing some native Celtic Christianity? Or full of liberal English-speaking Republicans? While Ulster Scots people aren't going to be welcome in Ireland, there are going to be a fair amount of English-speaking Anglo-Irish Anglicans who are sympathetic to the state. Which one of these groups is going to set the general cultural tone?
Irish Catholic settler state founded in the 1860s by impoverished Irish nobility, and later joined by Fenians, disgruntled Irish-Americans, criminals originally bound for Australia, and Scottish refugees from the Highland Clearances. Society is strictly bound by Victorian morality and dominated by the Catholic Church and to a lesser extent the Anglican Church of Ireland. In the modern day, the nation is still unsure if it is part of the Anglosphere or the Gaeltacht.

Clogheen has a small but powerful fantasy element.

Top-level policies of settler colonies tend to be dictated by the elite, so it's more likely to favor the English language and Catholic religion. Gaelicization and indigenization of the state would come from the lower classes; something that require a charismatic leader like Gandhi or MLK or someone insane enough to call himself the new High King of Ireland.

For maximum opportunities of building future stories, you can set up that the Anglophones and the Gaelophones are locked in political tension and maintain a fragile equilibrium where each faction hold some advantage over the other.

Hey, is there a way to use BBcode to size images? It would be great because otherwise I have to manually size images on photoshop and then upload them again.

Empty lines?

Postby Zouayne Shyce » Wed Jul 27, 2022 1:11 pm

Hello there,

is there any way how I can add an empty line below a paragraph of a factbook? I wrote it/took it from a template, just can't post the raw code here (I'm a noob).

What's bugging me is the too small space between "Text about etymology" and "History":

Thanks in advance for help,

I don't believe we support that. At least, none of the usual BBcode methods I know of work.

I don't think that you're seeing what I'm seeing, because I looked at this test page of yours and there's a very large space between between "Text about History" and "Geography" rather than "Text about etymology" and "History"; really, you probably just shouldn't worry about it.

I'm not sure of an actual good way to resolve it myself, but you could, if a pixel of black doesn't bother you, put
Code: Select all
[size=1].[/size]
on a new line to force a space. You can obviously also color the text as suits you to better hide it.

I think that the Object Replacement Character might work, though, and that actually is invisible
Code: Select all
[size=1] [/size]
or U+FFFC (last character in Windows charmap if that helps)

Thank you very much, I think the problem with the large space below the first title somehow solved itself, while I think that I found a way to create an empty line. I just added an indent / tab in a new line without adding anything. Now it looks like this:
https://www.nationstates.net/nation=zouayne_shyce/detail=factbook/id=1739163

I'm kinda happy with that, but I have to check whether it looks right on my phone as well and for everyone else. If it works, it's great, because this trick can also be used to push the paragraphs below tht table of contents.
