There are several ways to lower or “right-size” your population. The classic is to just line them up and execute every tenth person.

If you want a more dramatic decrease, consider bioengineering a virus and releasing it amongst your population. Of course you should first make sure that you and your loyal supporters are given the vaccine...

Alternatively you can also target people geographically, like quarantining a province and seizing all food within.

Or you can just pick a fight with a superior military power like yours truly and watch your numbers crash overnight!

Hope that helps!

Sincerely,

Supreme Leader Augusta Sargasso

OOC: If you're looking for realism figure out what you want your population to be, and RP it as being that (with no explanation as to where the extras went - they just never existed).

That said, you'll do better in war RPs if you just go with the NS stats. Using those stats, it doesn't take long before a nation has an almost-insurmountably large pool of fighting-age people to put into your army. Of course, the advantage here won't be as great for you as it is for the Decepticons, since you're playing with mere humans instead of literal sapient transforming war machines for a population. Still, larger population = better, as far as war is concerned, or for eventually claiming that you own vast amounts of territory.

We would suggest setting up a labor provision contract with our Bureau of Biological Labor instead of picking any fights. It's much less costly than a war, lets you get rid of only the people you want rid of, and you don't have to worry about being branded a genocidal maniac. You can even spin it that you're helping your people find work abroad, and if someone finds out where you sent them, you can claim you had no idea that it would be outright chattel slavery a permanent situation.

I know that's a lot, which is why I'm wondering how to lower it. Considering my nation just came out of a revolution, what SHOULD my population be?

The easiest and most realistic way to figure out an RP population, in my opinion, is to first determine how big your country is geographically, how much of that is actually fit for human habitation, and what sort of population density you're hoping to arrive at. Draw a map, even! Seems like you've already chosen your country based on real-world locations.

Once you've figured out how much space you've got to work with, you can then take your population density figure and extrapolate from that. Or you can look to real world countries that are economically, geographically, culturally, and/or historically similar to your own, and approximate yours based on those. Quirks in your nation's history can, of course, cause the figure to be higher or lower than that as necessary. Famine, frequent war, disease... they can all explain lower numbers.

The imperial military high command of Routcher would be more than happy to assist you in reducing your population.

I'll ask again - why is my Q&A thread so quiet? Am I doing something wrong? Also, if I were to make an embassy thread, how do I make it a hit?

So, in my nation's canon, there's an existing superhero like in my nation's version of "real life." Captain Oppermenia (sort of like captain America), who was given super soldier enhancements to be able to perform feats like lifting cars. Basically, the government found this soldier with enhanced abilities and decided to use him as a patriotic symbol.

I want to make a factbook about him, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Like the formatting (can't tell what sort of template to use), as well as if I should do separate factbooks for the superhero and everyday identities, or if I should just do them both as the same factbook.

And there's another thing with it. I wanna create a pic as a visual for the suit of Captain Oppermenia. I have a rough sketch, but I want a polished computer version that I can display for factbooks and RPs. So, can anyone give me advice on how to do that?

If I could get help on these three issues, then that would be much appreciated.

Imma just drop the box template here for everyone to see and possibly use. I'd add the factbook template, but none of them are finished yet.

So, how could I get a pic as a visual for Captain Oppermenia’s suit? Sorry, I know I’ve asked this already. Is there any pc friendly app I could use, or even phone app (one that’s easy, too)? A place I could request one, etc.?

You could make one on Photoshop, but it's easier said than done.

What should the Glass Oasis' TLD be?

I probably put this in the wrong place, but I can't find the right one, and I can't find how to create dispatch polls, so I guess I'm putting this on nsg. Should it be on F&NI?

Anyways, what should my calling code be, what sounds the best?
Answers not listed due to lack of enough poll space:
.goa
.gla
.osis
.glss
.glos
.glo

Help appreciated

Do you mean a top level domain? A calling code is a number for dialling (usually) international telephone numbers.

Q&A threads tend to be hit or miss, in my experience. Typically, the more information or unique insights into your culture and way of life, the better things tend to go.

Embassy threads, further, seem to have a lifespan proportional to your level of activity, the amount of new roleplay partners you gain, and the amount of diplomatic enterprises - positive and negative - you engage in. All the formatting and forms in the world with all the pretty graphics you can imagine, while helpful, don't necessarily help if you're not making your presence known diplomatically - or otherwise - in your proverbial geopolitical sphere. After all, people have to have a reason to open diplomatic relations with you and utilize the thread, beyond just the "Oh! A neat application to fill out!" buzz.

Neither of these questions are ones with objective answers, or guarantees of success to begin with. Trends and the threads favored with them wax and wane; not all are going to be successes, regardless of what you do. More information, polished presentation, and greater activity are the base suggestions, but those aren't guarantees, either; it may just be at the times your Q&A (or hypothetical embassy thread) got bumped happened to be inopportune, or your regular roleplay partners are not interested in them, or your thread just didn't strike the right interest with those whom happened to see it thus far.

For example: your Q&A thread, while an interesting premise, may put off individuals whom handwave away the metaphysical weirdness of the NS multiverse; similarly, it doesn't actually tell me much information to serve as hooks for interest about your state, its culture, or its people.

U can use this thread viewtopic.php?f=23&t=400908 to help for info for ur embassies and then create a embassy thread in F&ni for other nations that r interested in applying. This is not the only way u can also go an stage a ball or party with some theme hosted by ur nation and invite other interested nations in the nationstates forum.

How can I make a communist democracy, but still retain the decision making power of the Politburo? I have a name for what I guess you could call a lower legislature (Congress of People's Representatives) but I don't know how to implement it while also keeping the DSRK authoritarian.

Am I using the correct details in the factbook page.

Hello, I mostly keep to myself but I've been a long-time user of the website and I want to start giving my nation more life. I've never used the factbook section before but lately I've been writing stuff for it.

Can someone please look at what I've wrote and tell me if I'm doing it right. It's very early stages right now so I'm happy for any criticism or praise!

Thank you
