Summary of Geopolitical/Political Situation: The United Principalities is a relatively weak nation located between three far more powerful nations. The government is very stable and peaceful. There has been a recent move from a two party to a three party system. Historically the two main parties have been the Social Democratic Party and the Democratic Party. Increased inequality due to the laize faire policies of the latter and a social conservative backlash against the policies of the former led to the ressurection of the National Socialist Party as a new political force. There has also been a recent revivial of paganism as the new counterculture "thing".

Summary of Geopolitical/Political Situation: The Galazid Emirate has woven a careful if intricate web of alliances across the Middle East and Caucasus, while managing to retain some semblance of neutrality amid broader global conflicts. Throughout the 1980's, Rostam ibn Fairuz Al Galazi relied heavily on Iranian and Kurdish support to preserve his grip on power. This brought his fledgling emirate into the tentative Russian sphere of influence and into direct conflict with both Turkey, who struggled with multiple Kurdish insurrections, and Saudi Arabia, which eyed the Shiite despot on its north-eastern border with distrust.

A series of frontier skirmishes between the Saudi and Iraqi militias culminated in the 1st Persian Gulf War in 1990. The Iraqi military, bolstered by Russian monies and military advisers, swept across the disputed territories and forced the annexation of Kuwait over feeble international objections. The Saudis sued for peace three months later, and withdrew their battered military forces beyond a demilitarized zone that stretched thirty miles into their country.

With his power firmly consolidated, the emir began courting the Syrian government and improving his relations in the Caucasus region. At the behest of important Kurdish officials, he also participated in discreetly funding Shiite malcontents in Bahrain. While the political maneuver failed to significantly alter the balance of power, he did manage to improve his popular support at home and earn the enmity of a foreign government.

Beyond the more bellicose aspects of foreign policy, Iraq has been largely peaceful in recent years, focusing on the export of petroleum, normalization of relations, and market diversification. This has resulted in largely stable relations with most countries, especially fellow monarchies with the exception of Bahrain's royal family. This has seen the emirate growing increasingly independent from Iran.

Summary of Geopolitical/Political goals: The emir's principle objective at present is to foster trade relations with developed countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and, more importantly, to grow and diversify his country's economy.
