"Me Too" in your nation

Postby Mikanjima » Sat Jun 02, 2018 5:07 am

Does your nation support the "Me Too" movement and its goals?

In Mikanjima, ALL members of the government, including the President Rumiah Al-Salaami herself (who was sexually abused and almost got raped when she was 18 years old), and almost every aspect of the Mikanjiman populace from all walks of life, strongly support the pro-feminist, anti-rape, anti-sexual abuse, and pro-Social Justice movements that are the Me Too and the (similar, yet smaller but growing) TIme's Up movements.

On Twitter and Instagram, the hashtags #MeToo and #TimesUp are one of the most tweeted and shared hashtags of all time by the millions of Mikanjimans who are avid (and politically woke) users of social media.

Speaking out against the Me Too/Time's Up movements in Mikanjima, even a single harmless tweet, are not only extremely frowned upon, but punishable by at least 24 months (2 years) in prison as well as a permanent suspension of the offending user's social media accounts and a permanent ban on using the internet connection and to use social media.

Isilanka is a rather odd nation where women are usually the ones in power, thanks to its history and several weird parameters in its demography (one of them being a completely skewed gender ratio). It is not quite a matriarchy, but Isilanka has always practiced, since the middle ages, a strict equality between genders, in the law and in the society itself.
Me Too is regarded as some kind of an oddity here, as it covers a wide range of issues that have been adressed in Isilanka since a long time. The nation supports it fully, though.

Fatatatutians, as a rule, are not a violent people, nor do we consider "self-defence" to be an excuse for hurting people. But on the other hand, when it does become necessary to defend ourselves, we tend to go for "over-kill". Although it is not publicized, the physically weaker members of our society - e.g. women, children, the aged - are taught methods of defending themselves from rapists, molesters, etc.

There is no movement to protect the rapists, molesters, etc. from them.

The "Me Too" movement in our universe has died many years ago, perhaps due to more pressing matters (we had a war against the devil and his buddies for God's sake). Amenrian women need not worry though, as any sexual harassment reported will be dealt with swiftly by the military.

The “MeTop” thing hasn’t really come to pass in our world. It’s practically nonexistent in Versilia itself, largely because we’re a female-leaning society but mostly egalitarian.

That said, the punishment for confirmed rape is death.

Pilarcraft does not really tolerate rape. It's one of the few crimes that get death as punishment, and a lot of migrant Pilartics make a point of brutally lynching Rapists in their host countries as well. The #MeToo campaign, especially in its beginning, had a lot of Pilartic Support.

Hashtag movements are highly-looked down due to reliance on mere abstract words on electronic screens rather than revolutionary action and mobilization. The "Me Too" movement doesn't exist in Zhouran since it's seen as another asinine western first-world problem for problematic first-worlders, rape is extremely rare in the country and is punishable by death, and everyone has their own issues to deal with.

The #MeToo movement is growing in our nation, but the fact is that most people like to deal with criminal matters quietly. People take to social media to accuse people of sexual misconduct when they feel like the government has failed them-- so we try very hard to thoroughly investigate any such claim, whether made online or, more commonly, privately to a Peace Officer.

The truth is, fortunately, rape, sexual assault, and other sexual crimes are very rare in our nation. The #MeToo tag is rarely used, solely because our country treats women much better, and does not tolerate any aspects of rape culture.

Our nation does not tolerate "movements" of any sort. All such things are meant to upend the existing culture, and we like our culture exactly as it is. We will fight to protect our culture from all threats, both foreign and domestic.

That said, we have a somewhat negative view of the "Me Too" movement happening on one of the Earths on the other side of the Transdimensional Warp Point. We believe these women should have opened fire on their assailants immediately and killed them, not waited for years and then merely tried to cause the aggressors the slight discomfort social ostracization. Of course, here, it IS entirely legal and expected for a person to respond to such a thing in the way we just described, and we think it is wimpy to do otherwise.

"Time's Up" is seen in a slightly better light, for even though it is a movement, it also signals that no more unwanted shenanigans will be tolerated. Here, that would be a very serious statement, and it would be backed by battles if it wasn't listened to. Alas, we have little hope for it actually doing much in the country where it is actually present, because that nation still does not legally offer the "immediately open fire" option - and THAT is, in our view, the only option that makes someone think twice and thrice before committing such an offense. Without the power of the Blaster to enforce it, what is it other than mere words?

We have had no need for analogies of either movement. We are asexual, but there is an even more fundamental reason: When someone tries to assault a Decepticon in any way, shape, or form, battle ensues - either instantly, or after the offended person has made the physical upgrades needed to ensure victory (such upgrading would begin immediately, too, not 10 or 15 years later). The original aggressor may very well lose this battle, and with it, a body or even his life. This does quite well at getting people to avoid doing offensive things on impulse.
No war RPs; no open RPs.

Given that it is a movement created by, supported by, instigated by and run by foreigners Purpelians despise it by definition. There is absolutely nothing worse than a foreign movement infiltrating our glorious society and poisoning our people with its foreign ways. And that's like not even a government stance or anything. It's popular opinion.

They don't even check to see what the movement is about.

Within the Nomadic Legion, the "Me Too" movement has no presence due to a lack of necessity. Since our founding, rape has been treated as a capital offense, with sexual harassment being surveilled and prosecuted. The citizens, owing to their Christianization, are in full support of preventing the corruption of romance and sex. Suffice it to say, any attempts to further inject feminism into society would be viewed as an overcorrection.

Saying "me too" is strongly discouraged, because we consider it slang that has no place in proper educated speech. Students are taught to say "so am/can/do I" – anyone who says "me too" is slapped on the hand or sent into the hallway.

The Premier herself shocked the nation when her official Twitter account tweeted a simple "#metoo." Currently her press secretary is deflecting requests for further comment from several major news organizations, sticking to the stance that no one is obligated to expand on the events leading to their "MeToo" incident. Many critics claim that the Premier is simply attempting to politicize sexual assault, but the tweet has sparked an immense increase in using the hashtag, so it seems to have emboldened a massive amount of other Lancovians to speak up.

"Me Too" movement is not popular, and the hashtags are usually only used by people that mistake it for saying "same" on Twitter. Rape and sexism has never really been a problem in New Transeurasia, as there are extreme punishments for rape, and the New Transeurasian constitution states that all persons shall be treated equally, regardless of gender or race.

The MeToo movement is acknowledged as historically important in the context of individualist, bottom-up feminism, itself well-regarded in Vistoran culture as promulgating positive social change without the need of heavy-handed government intervention. Conscientious consumers act, and markets respond. Contemporarily, however, it's no longer relevant as sexism is not remotely as prevalent in 2150 Vistora as it was in the early 21st century across the world.
