Sahsahlah Politics & News

Postby Sahsahlah » Sat May 26, 2018 8:56 am

This topic shows a list of the political parties in sahsahlah, and the main news of the country; so you can vote randomly, or read about what happens and cast an informed vote. your vote will be equally appreciated.
The poll remains open for the duration of the legislature, and will shape the next parliament.

What you can do:
Other than vote in the poll and change the vote whenever you want, you can:
  • ask questions (both IC and OC about the nation or the parties);
  • propose changes to the leadership of a party, to their objectives, to their alliances or any other detail. (I'll use a randomizing tool to define how many, among the elected members of the parliament of the party in exam, support the change. a low number of supporters will make the proposition fail, a large minority or a narrow majority might start an internal debate, while a large number of supporters will make the proposition become real.)
  • comment the news as a private citizen, or as a foreign nation

Party organization:
By law, each party has a leader, which can decide autonomously for the party, but can receive a no confidence vote by the elected party members in the parliament;
The party members who are elected and become part of the parliament, form the party council, which can remove a leader but can't chose a new one;
The national assembly is an event open to any party member, in or outside the parliament, organized to elect a new leader.

Main objectives: what the political party election campaign focuses over, what they openly support
Secondary objectives: secret goals, what the leader aims to, or acceptable consequences to the main objectives

>music plays
Lònthar> and with this song we can't but think about the big sister in the governing coalition, am I right nôishir?
Nôishir> indeed lònthar, while thèithèi lâthepos is sitting comfortably as the undisputed leader of the coalition, after the failed trade negotiations with the president of east ustya, bielcìrse thâitha seems severely weakened, we heard talking about yet another change of leadership.
Lònthar> do you think the high prince could bear yet another prime minister?
Nôishir> certainly the fâthe would be annoyed, this parliament is turning out to be a real disaster, if that is going to happen I would not exclude his majesty could announce new elections once and for all.
Lònthar> but I also think that he wouldn't be happy to anticipate the 'constitution' topic. we remind listeners that 'Freedom' announced, in agreement with the other coalition partners, to postpone the matter to the next elections, so to verify how much this subject interests voters. for many it was disturbing to hear about the unanimous stance taken by the seven prince-electors against the proposal.
Nôishir> certainly disturbing, but shouting in fear about the fragmentation of the high princedom, as some did, seems an exaggeration to me. a written constitution is something that, I think, we really need, it would not just be a shield to the democratic institutions, but also a guarantee for the nobles: right now, if shêilethan uèide forms his party and wins the elections again it would probably be far more dangerous to the prince-electors then a clear list of powers and restrictions.
Lònthar> you know, there's one thing I'd like to do now, I'd like to walk around the high prince mind and see what's going on.

>music plays
Nôishir> with that premise, this song was creepier than I expected.
Lònthar> well anyway, the social democratic party is back apparently.
Nôishir> yes it is, after a long internal discussion, and a grand national assembly, the sâh'li people's party has gone back to its origins; after the former prime minister thêkom arêtha was found innocent from the corruption allegation that pretty much destroyed the party consensus, the change in name and leadership was an attempt to survive the crisis, but the attempt failed, and with a restored thêkom, iòise thâlkaiàl decided it was time to take back what was one of the oldest parties of the nation.
Lònthar> and one of the most left-leaning of our history aswell, I actually missed it, my father was a great supporter of the social democratic party, and was very upset, like many others, when the leaders decided to throw the party identity just to avoid remaining out of the parliament for a period.
Nôishir> it will be interesting to see if the party manages to increase its popular support once again, although I doubt it will ever reach the old numbers in the parliament.
Lònthar> time will tell, nôishir. and time is over for us. don't miss the next episode of 'parliament briefly'.
Nôishir> and remember to eat lots of vegetables.

Lònthar> good evening to our listeners, and welcome to a new episode of 'parliament briefly'. today we are joined by thèithèi lâthepos, leader of the common people's hope party, and formal leader of the governing coalition. îthe thèithèi, the coalition has been labelled as 'inactive' by most newspapers, can you explain us why?
Thèithèi> good evening everyone, and thank you for allowing me to get in contact with our people. although the coalition was, is and will be strong and cohesive, we needed some time to define our common positions on several issues and policies. yesterday the final industrial plan was signed by all four parties. from today on, the government will work to improve our industrial sector, our goal is to liberalize a number of industries, loosen the government grip on the private sector, and ultimately make our nation more competitive and independent from foreign imports.
Nôishir> the so called 'de-socialization' process is back on track then?
Thèithèi> well I think the people have proved again, in the last elections, that a socialist sahsahlah is not what they want. we do respect the voters who do support the old status quo, and we will try our best to make the process slow and safe for everyone, but we can't elude the results. we need to move on, call it 'modernization' call it 'liberalization', or even the popular 'de-socialization'; this is just a natural process, the people want a modern sahsahlah, and a free sahsahlah, and we can't rely only on new technologies, we need real factories, more jobs, and lower prices, this is what common people's hope and the other parties are fighting for from the beginning of this legislature
Lònthar> can you tell the people about the east ustya negotiations? what is the future of the prime minister? and why did his project fail?
Thèithèi> let me be clear: my support and loyalty to bielcìrse thâitha is irremovable, I respect him and I'm confident in his ability as prime minister. the failed negotiations are not his fault as much as his majesty the high prince is not to blame. what prevented us to reach an agreement on the project is attributable to cultural differences and the local influence of the military, the large industrial area and shipyard shared with that nation was a profitable but bold move to make; we tried, we failed, now it's time to move on.
Nôishir> and what is your party position about the written constitution proposition made by rôle îkkeshàl and postponed to the next elections? and what do you think about the prince-electors worrying unanimous stance against it?
Thèithèi> well we all agreed to postpone the matter so the people could express themselves on it, at the moment I don't think we can do anything like that. the parliament today is too imbalanced, the young collective won the elections promising primarily one thing: the internet. I'm sure that the next elections will have different results and we will be able to have a more positive discussion. the prince-electors are free to have an opinion, they are an important part of our system of government and we must respect them. that said the democratic institutions can't interfere with the crown, but if a constitution was to be created I'm sure the high prince would have a key diplomatic role to keep the seven princedoms free and stable, a constitution would require an unanimous support from both the democratic institutions and the crown.
Nôishir> the young collective party is getting pugnacious again in parliament, is the shêilethan uèide influence growing again in the party?
Thèithèi> you should ask that to mârkki thlàn, I'm not an expert of the young collective nor am I interested in a party that aims to destabilize our nation with extremist republican ideals. common people's hope supports the current institutions as they are, and we are loyal to his majesty as much as to our voters
Lònthar> our time is up, thank you for joining us îthe thèithèi lâthepos. and to our listeners: to the next episode!
Nôishir> and remember to stay hydrated

Lònthar> good evening listeners, welcome back to 'parliament briefly'. joining the show, this rainy day, is pâithak ielênthar: historic leader of the 'we together' party; we are very happy to have you here. can you tell us what is the current situation in the party?
Pâithak> I'm happy to be here with you. when something you fight for starts to drift apart from the people supporting you, what happens is that you need to adapt, to find a new topic, a new format, a new voice. I'm sure this happened here on radio-1, and the same thing happened to WT, after years of power what our supporters wanted changed, and now we need to find a new goal. as my party has always cared about dialogue and compromise, we needed some time to find a new way, peacefully, avoiding useless fights and divisions. today the process we started a year ago is near the end, and I'm sure we will be ready to find our place in time for the next elections.
Nôishir> but it's a race against the clock, isn't it? at the moment the citizens seem to have given up on you, this crisis has been too long. are you sure you'll be able to have enough time to climb up the ladder to the parliament?
Pâithak> I'm confident we will indeed succeed, even if the citizens now have given up, as you say, the history of this party can't be forgotten. we were there when the people lost confidence and voted out the last socialist government; we were there when the economic crisis hit the country, putting our nation on its knees, and we did our best to save the high princedom from the people working to dismantle it, and we did it, we fixed the economy, improved civil and political rights. we, together, proved how cooperation and dialogue is the key to success, and together I'm sure we will be able to climb that ladder.
Lònthar> is there something you can tell us about the negotiations in place in the party council? is there something you already figured out? something your supporters should hear?
Pâithak> well yes, thank you lònthar. in this time of harsh political confrontations, we together will remain a defender of the many positive things we achieved thus far: we will defend the mixed nature of our economy, which protects the workers rights and supports the creation of jobs and fair enterprises; we will rebuild our international presence, by aiding poor countries, which is not only the right thing to do, but also assures that a migration crisis won't hit our nation; and we will also defend with all our strength the independence of the democratic institutions: the cities, the regions, the parliament; but we will also protect the prestige and sovereignty of the crown: his majesty the High Prince is our guide, the seven princedoms our history, the dukes and barons our most busy judges and local reference points. we can't live without both democracy, and monarchy.
Nôishir> and what is your position on the written constitution proposal made by the 'freedom' party?
Pâithak> as I said, we will be ready for the next elections, at the moment this point and some others need to be discussed in the council. I'm aware of the anticipation your listeners and our supporters have, but acting irrationally and impulsively, wouldn't help our cause nor would do any good to the future of our party. I must ask for some more patience.
Nôishir> irrational and impulsive, is this a reference to any politician in particular?
Pâithak> not at all, is just what I think.
Lònthar> I'd love to talk a bit more with lady pâithak ielênthar, but unfortunately we don't have time. to our listeners: you'll find us here, as always, next time.
Nôishir> and remember to walk at least 30 minutes a day.

Lònthar> well you've been proved wrong about the 'social democratic party', looks like this period is full of surprises, I say it's better not to make predictions for now.
Nôishir> you're lucky I don't count all the times you are wrong, besides, it wouldn't be in the interests of the other three big players in parliament: the young collective, amaranth union, and common people's hope are all going to lose power.
Lònthar> we'll need to wait and see what happens. we said all we had to say, goodbye to every-
???> not so fast people.
Lònthar> welcome, rôle îkkenshàl.
Nôishir> we're the best aren't we?
Rôle> best show ever.
Nôishir> I heard you say that yesterday on SFT morning news.
Rôle> what a terrible weather today.
Lònthar> so your party might be the winner of the next elections according to surveys, it seems that your proposal for a written constitution is indeed supported by a large number of citizens, what do you think about the veto of the prince-electors?
Rôle> I just don't think about it, they expressed their opinion and have all the power they need to fight for that, but we're in parallel systems, never touching each other.
Nôishir> you don't fear doomsday as many do?
Rôle> jî... we're all reasonable people discussing reasonable changes to the system, could you imagine the northern princedom citizens not being able to go south for the summer holidays?
Lònthar> that's a good point. so, you asked us not to talk about the government coalition situation, so of course, what is happening?
Rôle> I simply don't speak for the coalition.
Nôishir> speak for yourself, what's happening? are you considering a no confidence vote?
Rôle> retired first marshal rôle îkkenshàl, born 22 april 1951
Lònthar> I suppose torture won't work, well then, do you have contacts with the 'social democratic party'? are you going to work togather after the next elections if the situations remains as it is?
Rôle> sure.
Lònthar> really? are you saying you are going to run the elections as allies?
Rôle> no no, what I mean is: freedom will work with anybody willing to help us achieve our goals. I can say that surely 'a nation at your side' will be an ally, we are working very well together in parliament, our objectives and ideals are similar.
Lònthar> well at least we know that now. I know you have work to do so I won't hold you here, just one more question: what's happening to the governing coalition?
Rôle> oh just look at the time, I'll be late for the ''ban all radio stations'' proposal vote.
Nôishir> what a fun guy... I hope.
Lònthar> and that was really all for today, thank you for joining us, join us next time here on SFT radio1
Nôishir> and remember to have a good breakfast every morning.

Rodatê>
This is FlashNews, I'm Rodatê Thòle, and you're tuned to SFT radio-1.
During a long awaited conference in the city of Îershaltheil, We Together party leader, Pâithak Ielênthar, announced that a new political project has been agreed by all the council members.

Pâithak>
The council members and me have all agreed on a new course of action. We Together is ready to fight todays challenges and find its place in the hearts of the oshâl. We think it's time for our nation to find it's place in the modern world, we don't only need the internet, to escape our isolation we need a geopolitical change: we need to join the world assembly!
.
*applause*
.
.
it is time we take on the world and create new trade opportunities, during both the Uèide and Thâitha governments the poorest citizens became poorer, and the richest richer. by creating more jobs and work possibilities we can stop this scary decline, and We Together think that the best way to do this is to open our nation to foreign industries, to reduce burocracy, to persuade the General Assembly to create favourable resolutions.
.
*applause*
.
.
The Social Democratic Party is winning in all surveys, do we really need to go back to the old times? when economic stagnation and cyclical crisis were the norm? We Together brought our nation out of that tunnel, and now we need to stop it to happen again. this December vote us, vote you and, We Together, will prevent that!

It has been a while since the resignation of the former prime minister Shêilethan Uèide, that followed the loss of the party leadership after a massive anti-government campaign promoted by the conservative monarchy-aligned parties. After stepping down and leaving the Ocean Palace on March 18, Shêilethan kept a low profile and accepted a dialogue with the new, much more moderate, party leader: Mârkki Thlàn.

But this couldn't go on forever, as the influence of the former leader is still great within the Young Collective parliament members. as great as his determination to move on with his vision and change the nation.

Yesterday, at a party-organized meeting with the citizens of Îershaltheil, Shêilethan reignated the internal debate with an open critique to the monarchy, followed by an horatory speech in favour of the institution of a purely democratic system and scolded the Social Democratic Party leaders for their obedience to the crown.

"It is far too obvious that the so called "social democrats", moudly remnants of the socialist uprisings of the past, are nothing more than conservatives in disguise; happy to destroy our culture and faith in the name of foreign money and corruption. No more lies! we must stand up, as individuals of the real, breathing society, and free ourselves from the burden of our outdated system of governance"

The party leader didn't wait long to specify that Shêilethan's words are his own view and are not part of the program agreed by the party council. but her leadership might be in jeopardy, and many things could change, if Shêilethan manages to regain the support of the voters.

"thekkâkaioritak eo râliei'kli - we must save the nation from them"

This is how the speech of Thèithèi Lâthepos started, when yesterday, in cold and rainy day, the Common people's hope party council gathered with the allied Amaranth union. the purpose of the meeting is soon clear: the two parties will participate to the December elections as a coalition.

The worrying rumours about a future very likely victory of the social democrats, have made it clear to the two undeniably most capitalist-minded political parties of the nation, that the internal problems had to be moved aside to fight the common enemy.

It has been nearly a decade of free market governments (if we omit the short Shêilethan Uèide experience); the economy is doing great, with the industrial sector growing considerably for the first time since the great crysis started in 2011, and the conversion of the trade deficit of Sahsahlah in a surplus in the recent years was a surprise for everyone.
But there's not only good news: the civil rights and political freedom ratings of the nation have taken a different path according to the analysts, the gap between the richest and poorest citizens is growing, and no tax cut have been implemented so far, leaving the richest citizens far more empowered by the capitalist turn of the economy. The idea that the 2011 crisis was triggered by the inefficient left-wing governments is leaving the citizens minds, many are convinced it was just a machination of the We together-run governments, to capitalize on the decline of the socialist parties.

We might never know what is the truth about that, but Thèithèi Lâthepos and Bielcìrse Thâitha seem to be ready to fight with all their power to stop this threat to their vision of the future from becoming real.

"What is the objective of this coalition?" asked a reporter from outside the building "to stop the socialists, at all costs"

To: the Most Noble Elected Emperor of Yohannes
the Honourable President of the Electoral College of Yohannes

May the high spirits rejoice.
Myself and the Party Council are immensely grateful for your endorsement, this will certainly give more credit to our promises of internationalism, and show our people that there is an international community ready to welcome the High Princedom of Sahsahlah.
We Together has proved to be able to run this country in its moment of darkness and we will work hard to gain back the people's trust that has been lost due to our internal divisions.
Whatever the result of the December elections, we will remember your support.

with hope,

The only two highways that allow heavy traffic to cross the mountains are no longer sufficient, and the northern crystal, the city of Shîremiolthan, had convinced the Uèide government to create a new highway. the subsequent conservative government, however, has slowed down and finally almost blocked the project because of the danger of causing major economic damage to the capital, which has always been the main commercial hub for beyond-mountains trade.

Iòise Thâlkaiàl now promises to protect the interests of the capital but not to give up on helping the north grow, the promise, at the moment, is a strengthening of existing highways, but also new connections between small villages at the national level, and new projects for social housing and community structures both in cities and in the Foêdeinshathlah*1.

Where to get the money for all this? the army!
The navy begins to lag behind in technology; the aircrafts available to the air force are many but from the previous generation; and the army has always been the most snubbed organism by many past governments. the land forces have therefore choose, for decades, quality over quantity. these forces act in many unstable regions as a peace force in cooperation with the World Assembly's Security Council.
Right-wing politicians, especially the current prime minister, Bielcìrse Thâitha, have long been pushing for more investments in the armed forces for modernization.

"Today traditional conflicts have almost completely disappeared, the army has only a propaganda function, all we need to ensure peace is the support of local authorities for internal security, and our atomic arsenal as an external deterrent" explained Thêko Arêtha, former prime minister of the very last social democratic government and official socialist candidate for the 'livingroom with a view*2',"thêkuleshakor ce thâkulash cûshaja - we need more roads than weapons" she concluded.

"Thêkuleshakor ce thâkulash" has soon echoed in every interview, debate and government hall where a Social Democrat set foot, and is now the most debated motto in the homes of the sâh'li people.
Which should be the priority? a great and modern army, or new and better infrastructure?

LOCAL ELECTIONS RESULTS

Image
The national elections of December are approaching and the first round of votes has just ended with the renewal of the ducal chambers of debate. after the political battles fought in the principalities of Krêthlah, and Thêrebelith of the east, the winners are clearly distinguishable:
The Social Democratic Party, which controls more than half of the continent and the islands;
And Freedom, which conquers the north and many key duchies for the industrial production and tourism industry, demonstrating the strong interest of the higher middle class towards the proposal of a written constitution, this will probably be enough to change the minds of at least three prince-electors, breaking the unanimous condemnation expressed by the seven previously.

Other interesting developments are:
the victory of We Together in three duchies of the north. an unexpected return, which will perhaps allow the party to prove its value again;
The tenacious resistance of the Young Collective in a respectable number of duchies, so much as to keep control over almost the entire east coast of Thêrebelith;
The key achievements of Common People's Hope, which has won many important port cities and international commercial hubs, it will certainly come handy in future parliament negotiations;
And the unexpected disappearance of Amaranth Union, which loses the islands and the duchies of Thêrebelith, historically Amaranth core territory, despite the positive prospects at national level.

The duchies have power only over economic matters, they decide whether or not to allocate funds to local projects, collect and manage taxes and have control over the local police forces.
although the political decision-making is in the hands of the subjected regions, the role of the duchies is crucial for the development of the area, one could say that money is the most fundamental part of politics.

The goals of the next parliament, judging from local results, will therefore be clear: new infrastructures, a written constitution, and presumably an eye on national trade and, to a lesser extent, international, under the pressure of the crucial areas conquered by Common People's Hope.
