There is no "correct" form of English, but due to Yamoi having been ruled by the United States for a time, and is still heavily dependent on the U.S. (both officially and unofficially), American English is heavily preferred. Yamoian English is most influenced by the generic "newscaster" and Military Basic dialects.

Is one way exclusively considered the "correct" way, or are all of them acceptable? There is no English as a whole. There are many groups of it. We like to use British English, but Singlish is also encouraged and American English-specific schools are present although British English is also taught.

English is not an official language of the country. The only official language is Pandecian. However the vast majority of our citizens speak English as an unofficial language; and since the Education sector is heavily privatised, English is taught as part of the curriculum due to its usefulness.

While a standardised English is generally taught, people are free to use dialects if they wish to do so. By this we mostly mean British dialects as British English is the most influential in Pandect with many citizens watching British TV and listening to British pop music. While you can speak how you like, anyone trying out northern states American accents is going to get laughed at.

Which of the following English word choices are preferred in YN?
Airplane / aeroplane: Aeroplane (but it's pronounced air-plane now)
Apartment / flat: Flat but you can use apartment when it's in a trendy area and you paid way too much for it.
Color / colour: Colour
Cookie / biscuit: Biscuit, although round biscuits with chocolate chips in are called cookies.
Elevator / lift: Lift
Engineer / train driver: Train Driver (an engineer is someone who does engineering).
Jail / Gaol: Pandect is one of the few countries still spelling gaol the traditional British way (the g is soft, like genius)
Highway / motorway: Motorway for anything with 3 or more lanes each way. Dual Carriageways have 2 lanes each way. Main Roads have one lane each way.
Math / maths: Maths
Pants / trousers: Trousers, although only for formal clothing. Otherwise each type uses its own name ie Jeans, Tracksuit Bottoms, Leggings etc. Pants are the underclothing beneath Trousers although 'Underoos' is catching on lately due to the brand's popularity.
Principal / headmaster: Headmaster
Recognize / recognise: Recognise
Sedan / saloon: Saloon
Station wagon / estate: Estate or Shooting Brake
Theater / theatre: Theatre
Vacation / holiday: Holiday although 'Staycation' has caught on for holidays within the domestic market as compared to those abroad.

We also have decent British Christmas traditions such as Bacon-wrapped Sausages, Christmas Crackers with paper hats, Mince Pies, Christmas Pudding & of course Trifle.

All of them are acceptable, however the British Received Pronunciation is much more preferred due to the historical ties our nation has with Great Britain.
