Religion is highly disruptive to the social order through theological, dogmatic, and exegetic conflict. As such, it is suppressed by the State, except as a subject of objective historical study.

Trópico guarantees freedom of religion for its citizens.

It does, however, track religious affiliation on one's ID card, with the options ever issued thus far, Alphabetically by code, being: AG (Agnostic), AT (Atheist), BM (Mahayana Buddhist), BT (Theravada Buddhist), BV (Vajrayana Buddhist), CC (Catholic), CL (Lutheran), CO (Orthodox), CP (Other Protestant), CV (Calvinist), FB (Bahai Faith), HU (Hinduism), IL (Sunni Islam), IM (Shia Islam), JD (Judaism), ON (Other Unaffiliated), OS (Other Spiritual), PA (Germanic Neo-Pagan), PH (Hellenic Neo-Pagan) PI (Indigenous Pagan), PS (Slavic Neo-Pagan)

OOC- Any other states presenting themselves as representing all or part of the nation of Tropico from the series of City Builders are not operated by me nor are they canon to Estado de Tropico's lore. The existence of such states as have been founded on or after the 18th of October 2021, seemingly in response to my activity, have done so without my consent, but are permitted to do so by virtue of Tropico as a general country not being the unique and original intellectual property of any NS player. Nonetheless, their existence, being conflicting with my own, should be interpreted as taking place in a separate universe, as Nation States is multiversal, and no claims of accomplishing or attempting secession or other seizure of power from or by Estado de Tropico are true.

Freedom of religion is constitutionally guaranteed. Much controversy has been made over the years regarding the judicial interpretation of this freedom, often revolving around the conscience of minors. The courts have generally attributed these rules, among others, to freedom of religion:

  • Religious proselytizing to a captive audience is a violation. This includes circumstances where individuals are not physically restrained, but shall suffer any institutional or social repercussions for removing themselves.
  • For caretakers such as nannies or babysitters to bring minors to religious services without the explicit endorsement of their legal guardian(s) is a violation.
  • For religious narratives or myths to be represented in an educational environment as any equivocation of scientifically supported theory or 'fact' is a violation.
  • Threatening physical, mental, spiritual, or supernatural harm for denial or acceptance of dissenting religious ideas in the presence of minors is a violation.
  • Disrupting services in a religious establishment with the intention of infringing upon their free exercise, provided that these services are not otherwise in violation of freedom of religion nor cause physical harm, is a violation.

The state is secular. Despite the nation's authoritarianism, people are allowed to hold whatever religious belief they chose to, as long as they don't contradict science and are not bigoted (those two can often be the same in some cases). Personal faith is more common that organised religion.

Religion is not officially banned, but it is discouraged. This being said, the state has little actual control over what people do behind closed doors.

The Lietuvan High Kingdom maintains tiers for the regard of ceirtain world religions. The Official Religion is the religion that the Monarch professes, the state endorses, and is part of the Lietuvan national identity throughout history. Its members can be awarded titles of Duke and higher. Distinguished and Honorable Religions are religions that through historical ties, sociable behavior with the rest of society, and belief in monotheism are deemed reliable sources of honorable citizens. Members may be given titles of nobility up to and including Count and may serve in the KŠS. Respectable Religions are the general body of other religions, deserving of full tolerance under the law. They may serve as mayors and enjoy proselytization rights even towards higher-ranked religions and are able to be citizens in good standing. However, extreme, novel, and violent religious orders are placed in the category of Discouraged Religions, Cults, and Fringe Sects. Persons may be placed on probation and even removed from the citizenship rolls for publicly espousing belief in them.

Official: Eastern Orthodox Christianity (Canonical)

Distinguished and Honorable Religions: Roman Catholicism, Oriental Orthodoxy (Non-Chalcedonian), Church of the East, Lutheranism, Anglicanism, Calvinism, Presbyterianism, Baptist Christianity, Methodism, Old Believer Orthodoxy, Karaite Judaism, Sunni Islam (excluding Salafists, Wahhabists, and Deobandists), Shia Islam, Ibadi Islam, Quranist Islam, Zoroastrianism, and Sikhism

The government pursues a policy of secularism, although officially the state religion is Roman Catholicism. Religious groups are allowed to exist as long as they stay out of state affairs, remain unaffiliated with any and all political groups/parties, and do not advocate for removal of the current government.

Old pre-Abrahamic traditional faiths and spirituality across Eurasia are being revived and sponsored in YEVRAZ-controlled territories respective to their nation. This is done to rejuvenate the national spirit of peoples of Eurasia against foreign conquest and influence. This includes at times violent opposition to Christianity and Islam and is official state policy.
The YEVRAZ (Young Eurasian Valiant Revolutionary Autonomous Zones) or the Limonovshchina is a series of authoritarian communist, patriotic socialist and revolutionary nationalist territories across Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus in rebellion against EU, NATO, CIS and their respective national governments. It is inspired by national bolshevism and eurasianism of Karl-Otto Paetel, Eduard Limonov and Alexander Dugin and led by the National Bolshevik Party of Eurasia or NBPE.

Freedom of religion is a constitutional right of every citizen, with majority and minority religions being respected. Despite the Empire being a Catholic confessional state, this classification became almost something just symbolic due to the nations history. There are also some special accommodations for religion (for example: exemption from taxes, getting certain religious holidays off work, certain important sacred places receiving special protections, e.t.c.).
The government does not interfere with the internal issues of any religious organizations, as long they're not directly commiting crimes or acting in the direction of destabilizing the country getting involved with State affairs. So, of course, religious acts that would result in harm upon others are prohibited, and anyone can be judged by the law despite their religious creeds.

There is indeed full freedom of religion in the country, but the country is also predominantly Christian, so institutions of religions other than a denomination of Christianity is rare.

The Emirate of al-Andalus is an officially Muslim nation, but the constitution grants freedom of religion to all citizens. The nation is home to significant minorities of both Christians and Jews. There have been many instances in the history of the nation in which it may be said that the government had possibly favoured its Abrahamic subjects over its non-Abrahamic subjects, and in a significant number of those instances, favoured its Muslim and Jewish subjects over the Christians; however, in all (or at least most) of its history, the emirate has been one of the most religiously free nations in the world. Many laws within al-Andalus have been influenced from the traditional Sharia law of Islam, but many of these such laws grants exception to non-Muslims, at least for the most part.

In the official Confederate Constitution of 1868, the Christian Religion was recognized in addition to the guarantee of religious freedom. In 1882, after Virginia and the rest of the Confederacy broke up in the Second Civil War, the following article was added, derived from the 1776 Virginia Declaration of Rights, in place of the one derived from the US Constitution:

That religion, or the duty which we owe to our Creator, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence; and therefore all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the mutual duty of all to practise Christian forbearance, love, and charity toward each other

However, the state recognizes the Roman Catholic Church and Episcopalian Churches with a special status, reflecting the religious makeup of the country, in that same article:
America is and was borne a Christian Nation, with the pieties of Washington, Lee, Carroll, and Henry the shaping force of our nation’s birth. In the interest of the duty of Christian Forebearance, and the Confederacy’s duty to its creator, the goodness and necessity of divine worship, and acknowledgement of the Christian religion’s predominance in our country and place as the cornerstone of good morals and public welfare, the American Confederacy of Virginia shall render support, recognition, representation, and appropriations to the Protestant and Catholick Churches. Each shall be entitled to seat a Bishop or proxy in the Senate. The Protestants of this country are manifestly led by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church. The Romans by the See of Baltimore.

I don't know what you'd consider us. The predominant and official religion here is the Sanctisanguis (the Holy Blood), a rather militaristic, defensive-offensive branch of Christianity originating from old monotheistic worship of the Creator and a fuse of Abrahamic religion. All natural-born Adunarii within the Circle are required to practice. Outsiders, however, are strongly recommended to be at least some form of Christian (with JWs and Mormons being banned), but practitioners of the other two Abrahamic religions (Islam and Judaism) are tolerated. Practitioners of other religions and even more so those with a lack of religion are banned, actively hunted down if spotted with a lot of concrete evidence and little doubt.

[The only good communist is a dead one. Thankfully for this planet full of ingrates, we have created plenty of those. In fact, most of them are in the Sea of Dread, used as food for the carnivorous beasts of the ocean. And they say we didn't do Mother Nature any favors."]
