Though the state is officially secular, freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution. However, under the same clause, it also provides for freedom FROM religion; religious beliefs and protocols may not impose on members of society who do not wish to follow said beliefs and protocols.

Any citizen is free to practice any religion they want. However, a large portion (60%~) is irreligious. Christian makes up the next largest portion, but Islam is climbing quicker than it. The government has recently sponsored the creation of mosques and synagogues to appease some nations in my regions RP.
This is Prussiaholm 2.0. The world Prussiaholm 2.0 exists in is different from Prussiaholm 1.0, which conformed to the lore and history of APSIA.

It's not entirely free in Seikokka when it comes to worship. You either worship the Church of the Sun, or you're an atheist. Any religious views outside of those two are considered foreign and harmful, and are illegal, with punishment varying depending on the situation.
NS stats aren't used because they're dumb.

The freedom to associate (or not) with any religious or spiritual group as well as openly practice and display religious symbols of it anywhere in the Democratic Republic of Waterma is assured by the Protection of Religious Affiliation Act (PRA).

Discrimination against someone based on their beliefs by the state and its departments is illegal.

The PRA (a parliamentary act) however falls below the right to free speech (a constitutional guarantee) in the hierarchy of laws in Waterma, thus protecting criticism of religion in the country.

The Constitutional Court of Waterma has also held that the PRA is set aside when protecting minors (who have a constitutional guarantee to the best possible protection to care and protection), mostly in medical situations, and protecting the safety and liberties of other individuals, against threats, intimidation, violence, or occupation of property in the name of a denomination as their rights to safety and privacy will be infringed on.
Welcome to the Democratic Republic of Waterma, a nation where you can do anything, except get a job 'cause the economy is a wreck.

I ignore all NS Stats that make me look bad.

Freedom of religion is guaranteed by the Polyspastonian constitution. Prior to the socialist revolution in the 1940s, Polyspastonian Hellenism was the official religion of the state. Since then, however, the state has been entirely secular and recognises no state religion.

Brystolville is a multifaith country with complete and total freedom of religion. Parliament recognises religious freedom as a fundamental human right, and does not restrict religious practice in any way, except to protect the human rights of others, prevent discrimination, and uphold the law.

There are four religions recognised by the State: Anglicanism (Episcopal Church of Brystolville), Roman Catholicism (Archdiocese of Port Canning), Sunni Islam (All-Brystolville Muslim Association), and Hinduism (All-Brystolville Hindu Association). These religious groups are free to conduct religious activities inside registered religious buildings under the supervision of licenced ministers. Religious organisations are taxed at 40% of their income and 40% of the value of their property. Ministers must be paid, and churches must pay an 80% payroll tax on their employees. Ministers may not stand for public office or take government jobs. The use of religious and ecclesiastical titles in public is banned, and the four registered religious organisations are required to use the designations of National Religious Administrator, Regional Religious Administrator, Local Religious Administrator, and Minister in place of titles such as Archbishop, Dean, Imam, etc. Religious groups may not sponsor, finance, or associate with any charity, social club, youth group, or sporting team; nor may they sponsor scholarships. Although there are 8 religiously-affiliated schools still operating in Brystolville (all of them Roman Catholic), they are heavily taxed (80% of their income), subject to close scrutiny to prevent the violation of human rights or Parliamentary laws, and cannot employ clergy. The establishment of new religious schools is banned, and four of the 8 remaining schools are on the verge of being shut down for failure to meet the per-student spending requirements and standardised test score thresholds set for private schools.

Reform Judaism, Unitarian Universalism, Taoism, Confucianism, Shinto, most forms of Buddhism, Cheondoism, and most forms of "paganism" are not considered religions under the law, but rather Non-Religious Spiritual Communities (NRSCs) and may therefore be practised without a licence within the confines of the law.

The practise of all other religious and spiritual beliefs is banned. Certain banned religions are specifically proscribed by Acts of Parliament, including (but not limited to) Shi'a Islam, Methodism, Falun Gong, Eastern Orthodoxy, Sikhism, the Bahá'í Faith, Vodun, Cao Dai, Ibadhi Islam, Mormonism, Lutheranism, Zoroastrianism, Vaishnava Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, Quakerism, Donyi-Polo, Dongbaism, Tolstoyan Christianity, Neoplatonism, the Druze faith, Nichiren Buddhism, Sufism, and Anabaptist Christianity. Persons found to be adhering to or practising proscribed religions may be remanded to rehabilitation camps for 30 years to life.

Practicing or promoting religion outside of a registered religious building is banned, in public as well as private. Preaching, visibly praying, or displaying religious symbols or imagery in public is banned for forcing religious beliefs on others. Religious texts must be kept within the confines of religious buildings, and must not be transmitted or disseminated electronically. Religious organisations are prohibited from interfering in the political process in any way, and religious sermons are banned from addressing political topics. State employees and Members of Parliament must keep their religious views private, and may not participate in religious services while in office. Citizens who die while in public office or while employed by the State forfeit any pensions owed to them if they have a religious funeral.

In the Flux Empire of the Auto-Reds, we have something known as freedom of thought, and included in that is freedom of belief. That said, there are certain limitations. For one faith is viewed rather negatively. There is a registry of the faithful that is used to record things like how often they try to spread their beliefs. Preaching and indoctrination are crimes if done intentionally, and can lead to increased taxes, forced membership for a Faithlessness Service, or possibly isolation. Beliefs are not immune to criticism, as part of the freedom of speech. You can also be discriminated against when it comes to jobs if you hold beliefs that would hinder you when it comes to performing a particular job.

Freedom of Religion in Sarcana

Postby Sarcana » Wed Jun 20, 2018 2:27 pm

The status of religion in Sarcanan society

In Sarcanan society, religion has become an unimportant, private part of life. You’ll rarely ever see any sort of public prayer or religious activities in Sarcanan cities.
In rural Sarcana this is a different story. Most people who live rural lives are religious, with the majority of them being either Anglican or Catholic. You’ll occasionally find Lutherans or other similar denominations in the more-detached parts of the country.

Because of high amounts of infrastructure and betterment of connections between regions, fewer and fewer rural communities can keep their religious nature without the influence of secular if not atheistic urban society.

Religion’s status in the law

Under Sarcanan law, religion and religion organisations receive no special treatment from the government. It is illegal to promote religion when acting in the name of the government, display explicitly religious icons or related things on government buildings, use religion as a basis of law nor conduct evangelical activities whilst engaged within the government political sphere.

Religious organisations are taxed like any other, according to their wealth and income. The more wealthy a group or organisation is, the more it is taxed. Foreign assets and wealth is taken into account.
In education, it is illegal for teachers and teaching-assistants to engage in evangelical activities, even whilst off-duty. It is also illegal for teachers to speak or teach of religion in a biased manner.
Some religious “duties” must be forsaken in order to join the military. Same goes for police forces.

The Lord-Archon’s stance

It is well-known the current Lord-Archon is a convinced atheist. He will never act under religion’s sway and in fact is openly hostile to some religious sects.

He has stated he is unfortunately biased in favour of Far-Eastern and Dhamic religions, like Shinto and Sikhism respectively.

The government’s stance

The government is explicitly forbidden from acting under religion’s sway, and a secular system is enforced at almost all levels of government.

The people’s stance

The majority of the population support the current measures in place to ensure secularity remains within government and the state. In the eyes of the average Sarcanan, religion is a private affair, not to be enforced upon anyone. Many classify putting the idea of “Hell” into a child’s mind as child abuse.

Illegal sects

Whilst people may practice their personal faith as they desire, so long no one is harmed in any way, there are some banned sects.
Salafism, Wahhabism, Christian fundamentalism, violent sects of Hinduism and other dangerous sects are banned. Propaganda campaigns against these sects are common, but they’re mainly done by paramilitary groups.

With that being stated, religious pluralism does not exist, effectively restricting freedom of religion for several faiths. Notable legislation includes both The Anti-Abrahamism Edict and The Anti-Secularism Edict.

In Andocara, freedom of religion is a fundamental right, and the freedom of religion is protected by the government. It is illegal to discriminate against someone based on their religous (or lack of) religious affiliation. It is also illegal to force someone religion on others. That being said, unlike the United States, churches (or any religious temple) aren't tax exempt.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as defined in 2165, prohibits interference with expression of religious beliefs, which has been interpreted by the courts to include discrimination against followers of religions and violence against their followers or buildings they may congregate at. The Union is secular.

Religious discrimination occurs on a number of planets and worlds against followers of the three largest religions- Harmonism, Buddhism and Christianity- and against believers in minority faiths, as well as those who aren't part of a local religious majority. Reported incidents and their estimated background rate, in terms of planets recording such, numbered at around 18,000 reported and 19,000 unreported/presumed for a total of 37,000 in 2559; this is about 7% of all planets, which has held steady for a quarter century.

Mevraq maintains freedom of religion, including reasonable accommodations for religious observances (e.g. getting religious holidays off work, compliance with dietary restrictions, wearing religious clothing in public, etc.). Of course, as Judaism is the majority religion, Jews do find it easier to get accommodations, as most businesses are closed on Jewish holidays and most food sold in Mevraq is kosher.

Religious organizations are treated the same as secular charities. There are two official organizations dealing with religious affairs: the Interfaith Council and the Union of Clergy. The Interfaith Council works to promote religious harmony, and is also tasked with ensuring that religious organizations do not skirt the law. The Union of Clergy serves as a union for all religious workers and represents them in the General Assembly. Unsurprisingly, the two are closely linked, and most members of the Interfaith Council were previously officers in the Union of Clergy.

This was not always the case. Judaism was the state religion prior to the 1909 Revolution (although other religions were tolerated). During the rule of Ari Berkane, state atheism was established. Near the end of his life, Berkane began to attack all religions, especially Judaism.
