Words your nation shares with real-world languages?

Postby Lanoraie II » Wed Apr 25, 2018 3:28 pm

In other words, what words do you share across the lines of reality? Only words with the same meaning, please.

Lanomiran is entirely derived from Earth languages, so naturally a few are shared among meaning, and speech. For a few examples:

• Kawaii; Japanese for cute, adorable

• Tapas; Spanish for finger food, savories

• Luna; Latin (and Latin-derived) for moon

• Sateinen; Finnish for rainy
Recovering alt-righter. Socialist. If you can't accurately describe socialist rhetoric and ideology, you don't get to have a voice in political discussions.

All, if not most words in Amenrian Indonesian is exactly the same as real-life Indonesian. We just add a few words like konskrip, which means conscript.

The only difference between Nordennavic and Norwegian is that Nordennavic uses a 26-letter alphabet, leaving out "æ", "ø", and "å". All words with those letters are spelled with "ae," "oe," and "aa," respectively.
"This name looks familiar..." Of course it is; it's basically Nordennavic from Ace Combat 6 and Northern Wings!

There are a few similarities with real world languages given that Radiatian is essentially a mix of Russian, German and Japanese.

Notable examples include:

- "Das" (the) and "Du" (You) shared with German, but spelled "Ŧac" and "Ŧu" respectively.

- Similar grammar structure to Japanese. For example, questions in Radiatian will end in "A" in a similar way to "Desu ka" in Japanese. The word "dakuten" is also used to describe the single apostrophe used to change the sound of letters in writing (e.g. "Ru" is pronounced with a soft 'r' while "r'u" is pronounced with a rolled 'r'.)

- Other Japanese words include 'Hiro' (people, similar to Japanese 'Hito') and the suffix '-jin' (though written as "din" in Radiatian) used to describe nationalities. ("Ra‡ijazija-din" = "Radiatian person").

- The Russian and Radiatian word for the number six is the same - "Shest". "Dobroye utro" which means "Good Morning" in Russian is a formal greeting in Radiatian, which translates literally as "Peaceful Beginnings" but is roughly equivalent to saying "Good day" - but generally only used in very formal contexts. The spelling differs of course - in Radiatian it's spelled "Ŧobr'oje Utr'o", with no Cyrillic alphabet.

Citizens of the Empire speak a mainline mixture of Gothic, Black Speech, Old Hungarian, and Proto-Romanian, but the Gothic and Black Speech elements of this mixed language is highly prioritized. Gothic and Black Speech are the most popular languages spoken all over the whole Empire.

Zhouranese people speak a dialect of Mandarin called Mandarin Zhouranese. As a result, Mandarin Zhouranese shares worlds with Mandarin Chinese/Standard Chinese, however pronunciation is different.

Mandarin Zhouranese is a standard variety of Mandarin Chinese that is used as the sole official language of Zhouran. On July 22, 1533, the Ancient Zhouranese language, which dates back to 3,400 BC, was replaced by the Chinese language (which would later be called Mandarin by 1587) as the official language. From July 22, 1533 until July 22, 1933, it was officially called Guanhua (simplified: 官话; traditional: 官話), but since July 22, 1933, Mandarin Zhouranese is officially called Putonghua (simplified: 普通话; traditional: 普通話).

Like other varieties of Chinese, Mandarin Zhouranese is a tonal language with topic-prominent organization and subject–verb–object word order. It has more initial consonants but fewer vowels, final consonants and tones than varieties from Southern China. Mandarin Zhouranese is an analytic language, though with many compound words.

Since July 22, 1533, Zhouranese people began to write in their vernacular dialect in the form of Yulu (simplified: 语录; traditional: 語錄) until July 22, 1933, when it was replaced by Written Vernacular Chinese, which is officially called Baihuawen (simplified: 白话文; traditional: 白話文).

Mandarin Zhouranese uses its own variety of vocabulary and pronunciation called the Zhouranese dialect, which contains some differences from other Mandarin dialects. Even though it is similar to Standard Chinese, the Zhouranese dialect is mainly monotone. Also, the Zhouranese dialect is clearly distinguished by its relatively tonally flat sound as well as its little use of word stress and sentence stress.

As part of Mandarin Zhouranese, Traditional Chinese characters, which was officially called Zhengtizi (simplified: 正体字; traditional: 正體字), was used from July 22, 1533 until February 24, 1957. At the time it became the official writing system in Zhouran, it replaced the Ancient Zhouranese Script, which is estimated to date back to 2,300 BC. Since February 24, 1957, Zhengtizi was replaced by the Simplified Chinese characters, which is officially called the National Simplified Script

From May 17, 1893 until April 21, 1958, the official romanization system for Mandarin Zhouranese was Wade-Giles, which was officially called Wei-toma Pin-yin (simplified: 威妥玛拼音; traditional: 威妥瑪拼音). Since April 21, 1958, the official romanization system for Mandarin Zhouranese is Pinyin, which is officially called Kangyuli Pinyin (simplified: 康玉立拼音; traditional: 康玉立拼音).

National Language: Filipino (also nat'l language of the Philippines)
Official Languages: English, Tagalog (basis of Filipino), Mabuhay (unrecognized alternative language, often used by the Association of Philippine and Mabuhay Landian Languages)
Regional Languages: Bisaya (Cebuano), Ilocano, Hilignayon, Bicolano, Waray, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, Maguindanaoan, Tausug, Maranaoan, Kinaray-a, Kankanaey, Aklanon, Capizeño, Surigaonon, Masbateño, Chavacano, Ibanag, Manobo

All languages are real and uses their full vocabulary except Mabuhay. Mabuhay is somehow a 'decolonialized' Filipino, incorporating æ, ç and other Latin/Nordic letters, though, this is not widely used and not recognized as an official language of the government..

Example: graph - juræph, cooperation - çupreasyon

We share no known loanwords with Earth Languages, but our script and available sounds are essentially identical to Czech, with the addition of the Polish l with stroke.

That said, our language is doesn't share any larger-scale commonalities with Slavic languages.

Riksmål is almost identical to Norwegian – the 2 languages are more similar than British vs American English. One big difference is that Riksmål has more French loanwords instead of English, especially technology terms.
