Your Nation's primary military doctrine/focus

Postby Vigil Imperium » Sat Apr 21, 2018 1:04 am

I couldn't find a similar thread elsewhere so bugger it, I'm making my own!

I want you to post your nation's primary military doctrine, what their focus is in military spendings, their greatest strengths/weaknesses. Get creative, don't need to be realistic or practical!

Vigil Imperium:

Rapid deployment and range. It's all about striking the enemy before they can strike first. Either via long range artillery, missile strikes or good old coastal bombardments from our beloved warships!
When it comes to fighting a foreign power, the Imperium always wants to be the one to hit first, even if that hit isn't necessarily decisive.
Vast majority of military spendings go into the Navy and production of battleships. The biggest guns mounted on the biggest hulls, able to strike way beyond conventional engagement distance even with conventional artillery. But the obvious weakness is inaccuracy, there's a lot of collateral damage to be had when you can't even see your enemy with naked eyes, and technological aiming can always be disrupted.

With Asia's huge population, it's no surprise that Amenria prefers to swarm the enemy whilst demoralizing them by displaying our righteous fury, either through fear gas, our mechas and super heavy tanks, or the good old takbir. We're quite defensive and equip our units with heavy armour. The downside to this is less mobility, but better safe than sorry, right?

This should be in factbooks & national info though

Minimal deployment, Guerilla and Ambush tactics, No charging/swarming the enemy (causes extreme loses), not firing ammo unless there is an enemy (to save a lot of bullets). (INFANTRY)
Support/Transport Infantry, against structures and armored vehicles. Mostly camouflaged in forests (acting somehow as a sniper tank). (ARMORED VEHICLES)
Strike only when there is an enemy, Recon before strike (ARTILLERY/MLRS/AIRCRAFT)
If the nation launches nuclear weapons to us, we also launch nukes to them (In short, Mutually Assured Destruction {MAD}). And also prioritizing SAM Systems rather than aircraft in air defense.

In the navy, Swarm boats (Missile boat, FAC, OPV) are only for coastal defense. Missiles are only used for high valued targets or ships w/o CWIS. Most of MSR Navy's ships have 2-4 CWIS in order to defend from AShMs, boats and low flying aircraft.

Mass firepower with shock and awe. Sleetavia relies on having the biggest, most advanced guns against their opponent, and using said firepower to hit their enemy and effectively cripple them before they can even launch a counter attack. A modern day blitzkrieg, in the form of gigantic tanks, railgun armed battleships, and swarms of heavy stealth bombers. Primary focus of spending is on the navy, since Sleetavia is an island nation and has a lot of territory to protect.

Psychotic Dictatorship

The People's Revolutionary Army of Kaitjan - the PRAK - utilizes a form of the IRL Soviet Deep battle doctrine, modified for the geographical realities of the country and region.

The doctrine is centred around mobile armoured tank units and mechanized Motorifle divisions and an unwavering offensive spirit. To the ground forces, the Offensive is everything. A highly aggressive approach to battle is instilled in both men and officers. By constant offensive action, the enemy is to be denied easy opportunity to rest, regroup or carry out their own operations. Constant attacks, raids and counter-attacks are an integral part of the Kaitjanese doctrine. Be it during an offensive or defensive action, frontline troops strive to engage the enemy as closely as possible, even if it means literal hand to hand combat. This is done to make troops less vulnerable to enemy artillery or airpower, or at least make enemy friendly fire a high possibility. It also negates certain technological disadvantages in the range and accuracy of Kaitjanese tanks.

Light cavalry tanks accompanied by mobile Motorifle troops form the spearheads of an offensive, preferably attacking from a multitude of directions at once. Artillery bombardments are extremely short but violent affairs, with the troops advancing almost directly into the fire to rapidly close distance with enemy lines. By ignoring or bypassing enemy strongholds, attack divisions strive to take the battle from a tactical dimension to an operational - striking at enemy rear echelons and support networks. Should such a division be cut off, the troops are expected to dig down and furiously defend themselves while they wait for reinforcements to reach them. To the enemy this means that they either have to divert valuable troops from the frontline in order to fight the encircled Kaitjanese or ignore them, thus risking their own supply lines. While assault units are either advancing or fighting defensively, heavy tanks and artillery take on the encircled defensive positions.

Throughout the history of the PRAK, the high command has always emphasized aggressively executed offensive action. Taking the fight to the enemy is critical. Men and officers are not expected to take so much initiative as they are to carry out orders according to their intended tasks on the battlefield. This has a side effect: the exceptionally rigid command structure stifles personal initiative in tactical situations, making it harder to discover and exploit opportunities on the battlefield. On the other hand, the well-drilled troops and officers are well suited to carry out specific plans on the battlefield with good cohesion between units and branches. The army does not produce excellent men, but it does provide men that are trained to do as they are told, and who are instilled with fervent nationalism and aggressive spirit. Large manpower reserves have historically allowed the PRAK to fight and succeed in many wars and battles, sustaining high casualties but ultimately reaching their objectives.
The People's Republic of Kaitjan is a nation most glorious: a totalitarian communist dictatorship set against a backdrop of vast jungles, great rivers and a horribly tropical climate. Kaitjan is renowned for its all-encompassing militarism, rampant xenophobia, isolationist tendencies and a great love for tigers and tiger motifs.

The Fostorian Grand Imperial Army uses a mixed book of tactics in order to keep the enemy on their toes.

A ranged attack of some sort is almost always used unless the target is a sensitive urban area. Heavy mobile artillery, cruise missiles, airship attacks, and jet staffing are all used to soften up enemy defenses (or bodies...).
The general attack plan is to launch a Blitzkrieg-style massive mechanized and armored assault on the enemy. Heavy+Medium Battle Tanks form the vanguard, supported by mechanized infantry mounted on IFVs and APCs.

However, other strategies exist, such as sending hordes of armored infantry (in addition to light scouts) to occupy buildings in urban environments. If an armored/mechanized counterattack is sent, then the infantry can use their ATI-8 shoulder-fired rockets or ATS-10 guided AT missiles to take them out.

Our military doctrine can be summed up in three words:
Defend the shores.

We’re heavily fortified and stuck-in, especially on the shoreline, which has forts and ready-to-use military installations everywhere. We also focus more upon information and cyberwarfare than boots-on-the-ground warfare.

The Burkish Armed Forces employs its own variation of the Fabian Strategy, preferring to avoid decisive battles and instead destroy infrastructure, suffocate supply lines, disrupt international trade, etc.

On the tactical level, Burkish officers have extensive authority delegated to them. They may be guided by the strategic doctrine, but exactly how they go about performing said strategy is almost entirely up to their individual decisions. This is intentionally designed to keep the military unpredictable while still pursuing a common victory method.

Once the enemy is judged to have been weakened enough, the military forsakes the Fabian Strategy and “moves in for the kill” so to speak.

High-powered blitzkrieg. Since we have huge numbers of top-notch tanks; aircraft; IMVs; and exoskeleton infantry, we can field a force of tens of thousands of elite forces in an instant who can both outnumber you, outmatch you, and outgun you. You'd be grappling with constant bombardment from artillery and planes and a massive force of tanks and mechanized infantry charging straight at you.

The People's Infinite Army (PIA) is confined to a small number of members circulating to around 500,000. Due to Zactannia's up and coming nonaggression policy, we try not building up our military force, even in the name of national defense. The People's Infinite Navy (PIN), a mix of the original seafaring navy and the People's Infinite Air Force (PIAF), was made into the main spacefaring force of Zactannia, taking care of most of the aggression in combat. We're serious about not killing people and try our best to keep people out of harm's way, including enemy combatants. Our favored guns, the ZM-03s, are non-lethal phaser rifles which highest setting can stun opponents for hours, still impairing their actions after awakening to make capture easier. Most military weapons and devices are shipped from our law & order division who produces most of this equipment for their regular duties. But enough of my blabber. We don't do total bloody war, even if we wanted to, we'd have to sacrifice our peaceful and life-loving way of life.

The Defence Doctrine of the Radiatian Federation is often altered defending on the foreign policy of who is in power, although most military doctrines are variations of the "Peace Through Strength" doctrine which began in the Larssen Administration.

"Peace Through Strength":
Larssen Administration:

  • Still the primary basis for most Radiatian military strategy
  • More than 50% of national budget allocated to defence
  • Continual innovation and development of new technologies
  • Dispersion of soft (economic) power to influence world affairs before resorting to military intervention
  • Non-intervention unless direct threat posed to the Radiatian Federation
  • Military should, in theory, be capable of fighting two wars simultaneously
  • Emphasis on deterrence through large naval presence, technological advancement and nuclear weapons

"The Sheriff of Noctur":
Silviu Administration:

  • Strong emphasis on navy and ensuring that Radiatia has a blue-water navy
  • Willingness to strike first
  • Attacks on allies treated as attacks on Radiatia
  • Emphasise use of surgical strike tactics and special forces
  • Careful targeting to avoid civilian casualties where possible
  • Multilateral foreign policy with Radiatian Federation playing leadership role

"Sunshine Policy"
Fyoderov Administration:

  • Strong emphasis on non-interventionism
  • Strong emphasis on diplomacy and containment
  • Endorses use of trade and economic sanctions as a first resort before military intervention

"Humanitarian Doctrine":
Pavlovic Administration:

  • Somewhat isolationist, clear desire to disentangle from affairs of allies
  • Some defence cuts
  • Emphasis on equipping and training allies but reluctance to send Radiatian troops into combat
  • Win psychological victories by portraying Radiatia as "the good guys", providing aid to civilians and homes for refugees

"Radiatia First":
Autenberg Administration: (Current)

  • Greater emphasis on air power than naval power due to changed geopolitical situation
  • Emphasis on nuclear deterrence
  • Foreign military installations closed down
  • Strongly isolationist

Bombard the enemy with the air force to cripple defenses. Afterwards, mass deployment of mechanized, airborne, air assault, and motorized infantry right behind powered battlesuit wearing shock troopers lead the charge. Infantry forces are heavily supported by artillery, IFVs, and attack helicopters.

Our doctrine is : trade first, diplomacy second and military action only as a last resort.

From a strictly military point of view, our defence starts on your doorstep. We keep track of what you're up to, your military preparedness, your attitude toward us, etc. If you try to invade us, the aim is to torpedo your transports coming out of your own harbours.

Failing that, we hope to stop you on the high seas. We don't have much in the way of a "battle navy" but we have naval forces that are capable of striking hard and fast anywhere in the world. Our carrier fleet extends the striking range of our Air Corps, though it is not designed to strike foreign soil.

Failing that, we have a vast green-water navy that will harass your invasion forces as they try to land.

If any of your invaders do manage to set foot on shore, that's where the Army steps in. The Air Cavalry Brigade is the designated first responder with its heli-borne forces, supplemented by the Parachute Army and the rest of the Light Infantry. The Heavy Infantry and the Tank Corps protect our more civilized areas.

In the unlikely event that we are overrun, our Guerrilla Warfare School has trained thousands of our military personnel and civilians in the art of guerrilla warfare. We are prepared to resist forever.
