My prisons are basically the physical embodiment of hell. We have corporal and capital punishment and the jails are controlled by the military, just like everything here.

Our prisons carry military style training programs for criminals, depending on the severity of the crime the criminal may be assigned to a military "suicide squad" were they will be sent on near impossible missions and likely perish, of course these are for lesser crimes like robbery, assault, or manslaughter. If you commit one of the three crimes our nation considers most severe (Murder, rape, child molestation) then you are immediately executed in the following manner.

Murder - firing squad

rape - castration followed by inverted suspension were you are thereby beaten to death with blunt objects by the general public

Child Molestation - Brazen bull (cooked alive in a giant bronze canister filled with hot oil that is slowly heated beyond boiling)

We here in Great Mojave pride ourselves in our relatively low number of laws. A great number of things are perfectly legal, and a great deal more (mostly non-violent crimes) are punishable only by fines, community service, or any combination of the three. Prisons are expensive, and it's not worth incarcerating people for minor offences such as possessing or taking drugs.

However.

Should you find yourself breaking one of our few laws, your life'll go from bad to worse. Financial criminals, thugs, and all other manner of criminals find themselves imprisoned in prisons located in some of Great Mojave's most harsh climates, from La Mesa Prison in Tijuana, Baja to Barrow Correctional Facility in Barrow, Yukon. Once there, you can expect to do labor during your sentence, working everything from License Plate manufacture to landscaping.

If you're a rapist, murderer, or anything of that sort, you don't get a cell. You get the chair or the noose, since the Mojavean government isn't keen on expending extra resources on expensive execution methods such as lethal injection or firing squad.

The Mersidonian prison system is divided into three sectors (federal, provincial, and council), so the quality of those prisons- as well as the punishment in one- differs from place to place. The federal prisons are generally considered the most cushy; the average inmate can expect to have a nice wooden bunk bed with an actual bedspread, up to two showers a day, a wide-screen color TV and a game system, and at least four hours of free time outdoors a day. The meal quality, although not perfect, is fairly good, as the kitchen receives fresh food- on the government's dime, of course- every day and most inmates feel an urge to feed their fellow criminals well. If you go to a federal prison, you have to have great behavior, and if you act up too much, you can get sent to a "black prison". You really don't want to go into one. It's unlikely you'll come out alive.

The state prisons are probably the worst. Many mid-level troublemakers end up there; it's quite similar to a medium-security prison in the United States. Kinda rough. 'Nuff said.

Council jails are the smallest, but are generally reserved for local troublemakers. It's more similar to a Norwegian jail than the state prison, but less so than the feds.

Black prisons are where the worst offenders, terrorists, and general scum go. They either are castrated, tortured endlessly for years, or are killed- slowly- via some practices that would most definitely not adhere to the Geneva Convention.

Incarceration in Autocosm

Postby Autocosm » Tue May 21, 2019 1:35 am

Prisons in Autocosm are unique in which it’s a completely digitalized system. This means that the inmate is imprisoned in an automatic digital network, placed into a computer generated world called, The Xiang. This digital place has been described as a place of a perpetually indoor and brutalist concrete labyrinth, with no means of escape whatsoever.

Before the convicted felon enters The Xiang, he/she is brought - sedated and/or unconscious beforehand - to an ethereal and undulating chamber of coffin-like structures, where the inmates are stored away like bodies in a morgue. There, being hooked up to the network, the inmates are introduced to countless settings in The Xiang. The most common setting inmates will find themselves is being in a small solitary cell, with no doors or windows to indicate a way out; however, this was deliberate by design.

In The Xiang, doors and windows morph with the concrete walls and floors of The Xiang, thus making the place completely unpredictable and unnavigable for escapes. Each inmate gets their own cell to themselves, and nobody can truly die in The Xiang - anyone that dies there will simply respawn in their living quarters. Pain and other sensations can be felt there, though nobody ages while in The Xiang; however, this also means that sexual reproduction is completely nullified and neutered.

Due to thensystem’s ability to artificially distort an inmate’s perception of time, what can feel like ten years in The Xiang is actually a day in the real/mortal world; however, there is plenty to fear when one is convicted life imprisonment. When an inmate receives life imprisonment, they are transformed into digital data beforehand and permenantly incarcerated in The Xiang as a non-sentient NPC, whom is completely void of free will and permenantly restricted intelligence. Worst of all, he/she with life sentence can also be reprogrammed and transformed by the system to serve endless purposes as a lowly NPC.

For those who are incarcerated in The Xiang for non life sentences, their experiences are a custom fit for everyone - all inmates have a unique incarnation fitting for their crimes. For example, murders/rapist will find themselves being at the receiving end of torture, ranging from beatings (e.g. fights between prisoners) to target practice (the convicted felon is used as a practice target/dummy). In another instance, thieves (e.g. auto theft and pickpocketing) will find themselves locked up in a labor camp, left alive only to eat, work, and sleep.

Once he/she is released from The Xiang, they’ll have no memory recalling their experiences and the people they knew there; however, he/she will emerge only remembering their name, age, gender, size and weight, and their native language. He/She will have no recollection of their original life before being incarcerated in The Xiang, thus reducing he/she to someone who had been born yesterday - he/she has to start their life all over again in the real/mortal world.

Jail cells are for private personal use among my Kittens. There they may receive “punishment” and enjoy themselves.

Staying in His Majesty's prison system isn't exactly a pleasant stay in Akrafjall, but officially they are a blend of punishment and rehabilitation/education. With a re-offender rate of 9.2% you could say that the shock factor or jail and the education programs do work together well.

There is also a Military Detention Centre located on the outskirts of Finnvangerby, this facility houses those sentenced in a court marshal, alongside those who attempt to evade conscription without valid reasoning, and is much less of a rehabilitation facility and much more focused on punishment. Staffed by NCOs and COs, prisoners leave the facility disciplined as the officers command respect and get them back into line.

Incarceration in Xanh is both a secretive and collective experience. Xanhi prisons are always built like individual closed cities, with the only form of access being underground railroads (whom were heavily monitored and kept a state secret at all cost). The jungles and unstable geography protected, isolated, and hid Xanhi prisons, ensuring that they remain undiscovered from the outside world, even to native citizens of Xanh as well.

There were no walls, fences, animals, or guards in Xanhi prisons, since geography and landscape kept inmates inside; however, the only facilities that contained both security and public service officials was the medical offices. Beneath the medical facilities, there was the underground station that lead the way in or out of prison. The medical facilities are always monitored and guarded at all times, ensuring that no inmate bypasses them and discloses the secrecy of the underground railroad. Any inmate that goes in or out of the prisons must be sedated and rendered unconscious beforehand.

Even more so, there are no locks anywhere in the prison (except the medical facilities), and money was banned entirely within prison. Each section of a Xanhi prison has a rating that indicates its housing quality and cost of living, containing their own courtyard, restaurants, markets, and local services. Almost all living sections contain market stalls and places to play games, such as, chess, go, xiangqi, backgammon, and poker. The canteen and restaurants are owned and run by the inmates, while other places sell ingredients for those with kitchens to cook for themselves.

There is only 1 place of incarceration in Themyscia the sister islands of Kato Antikeri and Ano Antikeri. The islands have been built upon and used as reformatories since 10 years after the founding of the original empire. Imprisonment is viewed as a tool to reform and to learn rather than to punish and so prisoners are free to wander the islands, tend to and create gardens, read, play instruments, pray to the pantheon etc. They are there to become a better amazon, learn and reflect on their mistakes.

They are required however to attend daily 5 hour classes from 11 am to 4 pm on a variety of subjects to help them on that journey and after a year and a prisoner views they are ready, they can request to be assessed by a panel of the Chief Jailor, a representative of the royal family and other guards. All under the watchful eye of the Goddess of divine order, fairness, law, natural law, and custom Themis in her temple located near the docks on both islands. If deemed by all to be ready, they are given fresh clothing and are taken back to the mainland or another island on the first ship from the port.
