They are just temporary storage spaces for you to wait until they sentence you.

If you committed a serious crime against the Wajuti way, you will lose your honor, so you will be either enslaved or even killed. If you committed a lesser crime, you might just have to give compensation either in the form of money or by undergoing corporeal punishment commensurate to the damages.

Either way, we don’t really use imprisonment as a punishment, but if you are poor then the process may take so long that your time in jail might be equal to a criminal sentence in other nations.

Xanthal has very few prisons in the traditional sense- simply holding people in confinement with no expectation that they can ever be released without posing an unacceptable threat to themselves or others is widely considered cruel and irresponsible when any reasonable alternative exists. Rehabilitation is the primary goal in most cases, and those who must be held in controlled environments during their treatment go to facilities that are in many ways more like hospitals than prisons. Those who aren't expected to be re-introduced into society in some fashion generally die (either by execution or suicide) or are exiled.

For the minority of offenders who- for whatever combination of reasons- cannot be treated, killed, or released, there are necessarily some facilities to warehouse them. These prisons are designed with a sensible mix of security and humanitarian considerations- to provide whatever comfort and dignity an inmate can safely be afforded until an alternative presents.

It should be noted that while we do have holding centers for arrested suspects who can't make bail and those awaiting sentencing (jails in the stricter sense of the word) we do not have prisons.
Dagnian jails are austere yet humane places where suspects and those awaiting sentencing are kept in relatively comfortable rooms and fed basic food. The rooms look like a basic bedroom with a sink, toilet and reinforced door with a window. There they await trial and sentencing to whatever rehabilitation program best suits their case.
Wait an hour, and it will be now again

The Empire focuses on factory prisons and farming prisons.

Factory prisons are basic labor camps for those who have been sentenced. Convicts work until their term is up making items for the Imperial Army and Ministries. The Empire ensures prisons learn skilled factory jobs while in prison so they can get work after they are released back into society.

Farm prisons are exclusively for non-violent criminals serving terms longer than one year but less than ten. The bureaucracy will attempt to clump together prisoners with similar sentences and send them to an area already set aside for them with pre-fabricated houses for the guards and staff. They will build their own homes, their own mess hall, and will only be supplied with tools and food until the end of their first year. From their they will work the farm eating their own produce and selling extra produce for outside goods they cannot make on their own. Once their sentence is up, part of the farm is set aside for each and they are given the land as property to hopefully stay and keep working.

There are no long term jails. Criminals either repay their crimes via labor over time or are escorted out of the local area or nation.

We aim at rehabilitation and don’t go out of our way to harm those on prison sentences (although rapists are chemically castrated) so we provide vocational and academic education and visits from family, religious teachers and friends.
However we see no reason to go out of our way to give prisoners luxuries like televisions unless they earn them. They exist but only for prisoners who pay for them.
Prison officers are either officials of the Federal, religious, state, Basic People’s Congress or tribal Ministries of Justice or occasionally of our gendarmerie: the People’s Islamic Federal Police.

An Al Saranidi prison is categorised as either: high security, medium security, minimum security or open,
There are no Federal minimum security or open prisons.

Different religious have their own prison rules EG
-Mormon prisons don’t allow alcohol, coffee or Coca Cola
-Muslim prisons don’t allow alcohol, have strict rules about racism and discourage swearing.
-Jewish prisons have lockdown before Saturday so the officers needn’t work
Mostly represents my views but what I think a Middle Eastern nation should do which will be sometimes different to what I think a western nation should do(because the people have different needs in different places)

Those who offend societal norms are generally ostracised for minor offences or subjected to involuntary supervision with a slap-drone following them around to ensure that they can not do it again for major infractions of societal norms.

Those under such an order are forbidden access to weapons and their travel choices are subjected to approval and the drone assigned to 'supervise' them is for all intents and purposes indestructible, it takes an incredible effort to destroy a drone, and even if someone succeeds a drone with that personality engram and a full memory of their destruction will be on the scene within minutes at the most.

A Slap drone is an intelligent artificial being that prevents an offender from offending society again (they have hidden lethal and less than lethal weapons to accomplish this as well as being far stronger than organics) as well as providing the offender with therapy and education that is designed to reduce their likelihood of reoffending.

Slap drones come with several different types of shell ranging from a small flying disc to a human form body that is virtually indistinguishable from an organic body from a distance. Drones assigned to slap duty will be coloured in high visibility orange or wear clothing of this colour.

No fun, no TV, no tasty food (not dangerous criminals can get a food package twice a month and can be visited once a week), 12 hours of hard work every day except for Sundays, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas, New Year's day but is humanitarian and average Healthcare.
The worst criminals like terrorists, brutal murderers, rapists etc. haven't got any Healthcare, they can't get any food packages, using the phone etc. They can be visited once a year. They are working 15 hours every day except for Christmas. They are living in cages 2mx2mx2m.

"If what you have done is so bad that the government cares about it, it cares enough to kill you for it." ~Opening sentence of the Module on Decepticon Law, Standard Educational Data Pack

We have no prisons. If you are deemed un-Decepticon, you will instead be executed and your remains sent to a foundry, where they will be melted down and re-forged into parts for REAL Decepticons. (Officially, the meltdown itself is supposed to be the form of execution, but most who are deemed guilty will fight to the death in the street rather than surrender. Even our traitors do not want to go out as cowards and wimps!)

Fortunately for our massively shady populace, it takes quite a lot to be declared a traitor/un-Decepticon. Most things that are banned by the average foreign nation are perfectly legal here. Just don't try to overthrow the government, help our enemies, intentionally mis-manufacture a Decepticon offspring, or wimpify our culture, and you should be golden. Do note that using the media for anti-governmental propaganda or related nonsense IS a form of attempting to overthrow the government, so if you're from some "freedom of the press" crazytown country, you'll want to leave those notions at the space border.

Pakojebato- being an extremely small nation with a population of only around 1,237, has no jails. Offenders are publicly rebuked, fined or made to work, since serious crimes are very rare. The police station has two small cells, which are of deteriorating condition and only worst offenders are imprisoned here.

Minor crimes(Victimless crimes, even self) are for labor. mostly to repair what they did, and some more dirty jobs to pound it in.

and Major crimes such as murder (Aside from things like sexual crime witch involve castration and other ways to deter you from even having those thoughts), is trail by combat in witch you are forced to fight and fight until you change into a different person into a person of obedience and self control. Or they die gruesomely for the surviving victims joy.

Prisons in Nesanda are small and have few inmates. They are reserved only for a very small proportion of criminals - those who are considered dangerous to wider society. For other criminals, punishments such as mandatory penal labour ("community service") or public shaming are more common. Murderers and rapists are executed, but are held in prisons during the appeals process.

In the former People's Republic of Niktobr, criminals were subject to terrible and inhumane conditions. Prison facilities oftentimes had little to no running water, and food to offer only basic nutrition. Following the end of communist rule in the country, the nation's incarceration and penitentiary facilities were overhauled to comply with international and new domestic standards.

The management of prisoners, including their transportation, incarceration and release is handled by the Niktobrian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Judicial Police. A nation-wide network of prisoner transports connect the 50+ prison facilities across the country.

Daruvania is a rather small nation with a low population density, so the number of incarcerated persons at any given time is quite small. In the forest villages where most of the population live, those convicted of mild local offences by a village jury are usually sentenced to spend a few nights chained to a tree just outside the village centre instead of going to an actual jail.

Of the five actual jails in the country, four are Regional Jails and one is the State Penitentiary. At the regional jails the food is generally bland and unvaried yet nutritionally adequate, consisting mainly of porridge, bread, soups, potato, tree nuts, and beer. Two jails also provide low-quality coffee. Acommodations are basic, but inmates are able to shower and spend time outdoors on a more or less daily basis. Incidents of violence, gang activity, sexual assault, etc. are fairly rare, if only because the prisons are not very crowded and sentences tend to be comparatively short. Books are available, and inmates may listen to the radio and play sports.

At the State Penitentiary, conditions are more strict. Prisoners' time and routines are more restricted, violence between inmates is more frequent, and inmates are more likely to spend time in solitary confinement. Most prisoners at the State Pen spend their days doing manual labour, while more dangerous inmates are mostly kept in their cells. This is where longer sentences are served and where more serious offenders are sent.

Jails have long been abolished and our nation has been focused on the rehabilitation and education of the criminals, with the intention that once the process is done, they can join the society again as a functional member. The rehabilitation centers are often located in towns or villages, with the 'former' criminals are encouraged but not forced to, work together with the local inhabitants as a way to develop their skills.

Our prisons stress the importance of re-education through labour and ideological re-conditioning. A typical prison complex will house around a thousand inmates in spartan but humane conditions. Skills training, educational facilities and recreational facilities are all housed on site. Prisoners are often moved temporarily off-site to perform penal labour such as cleaning the streets, maintaining our waterways, sorting rubbish at the recycling plants, etc. The combination of learning new skills & ideas while paying penance to society through labour are considered to be key to the rehabilitation of offenders, and we do see one of the lowest rates of recidivism in the world

Prisons in Lighta are civilised, well-behaved, well-mannered and comfortable. Prisoners each obtain a small cell with a toilet in an air-conditioned room with bath towels and blankets with bath towels. There are regular lessons on staying healthy as well as education on language, history and maths. Most importantly, they are all being thought to turn over a new leaf.
