Major Political Parties

United Socialist Party

By uniting many social democrats, communists and other left-wingers, the United Socialist Party has generally remained the largest party since its founding, but its diversity can make it difficult for them to cooperate or achieve a consensus. Being cautious internationalists, the United Socialist Party advocates for compromise in internal and foreign politics, making them a frequent target of criticism for hardliners from many sides.

One People Party

Radical communists have remained among the USP's most staunch opponents, achieving a sizeable portion of the popular vote. Advocating for fierce interventionism to liberate the oppressed workers of the world, the One People Party calls for armament and for Magekite leadership in international socialist affairs, as well as expanding the role of the state in internal business.

National Democratic Party

While careful to stay politically correct, the NDP pushes for responsible private enterprise to be given a greater share in the Magekite economy, as well as for the reduction of government size and looser restrictions on foreign trade.

Magekite Islam Party

While most of Mageek's population is agnostic or secular, the MIP still enjoys popular sympathy among some groups as it generally advocates for moderate policies and peaceful resolution of conflict.

Magekites Together Party

Nationalistic imperialists seeking to revitalize Magekite culture, assert Magekite economic and political independence, and protect Magekites around the region.

The Directorate, as the chief governing body of both the state and the Party, enjoys full legislative rights.

The United Republics of Zeganas has a bicameral legislature. Starting in a few months at the 520 election, there will be a 1624-member chamber of representation instead of 1200 after a change in how the number of legislators was made, each district will be made to be 1/15 the population of our least populous republic. That republic being New Gara.

We elect our members via instant-runoff ranked choice ballots, with 5 ranks (will become 6 starting in the 520 election)

Under the Ivorian Constitution, the Imperial is structured as a unicameral legislature, with the de jure power to legislate, oversee the operations of the government, the supreme court, the supreme procuratorate and the central military commission, and elect the major officers of state. Western media sources commonly describe the Imperial Court as a de facto rubber stamping body although at the turn of the century some academics have asserted that the Imperial Court had then begun to emerge as an influential force in Ivorian politics. The Imperial Court had never rejected a government bill until 1986, during the Bankruptcy Law proceedings, wherein a revised bill was passed in the same session. An outright rejection without a revised version being passed occurred in 2000 when a Highway Law was rejected, the first occurrence in sixty years of history. Moreover in 2015, the NPC refused to pass a package of bills proposed by the Imperial Privy Council, insisting that each bill require a separate vote and revision process. In recent years, the Imperial Court has made significant changes to draft legislation proposed by the government, and it is possible for legislation to be stalled by interest groups of political controversy.

Diarcesia's current legislature, the Nomothesia is currently headed by the current Grand Nomothete, Robert Hyde. He has promised to advance the building of smart cities to improve the quality of life in Diarcesia overall.

It has two chambers, one representing the diereses as a unit (Dieretonomothesia) and another representing the population (Demonomothesia). All nomothetes are randomly-selected. In the case of the Dieretonomothesia, they are selected among the legislators of the component diereses.

The Legislature of the Greater Commonwealth of Speirsland

Postby Speirsland » Fri Feb 14, 2020 3:23 am

The 36th Assembly of the Palemene of the Greater Commonwealth of Speirsland (GCS) was seated on January 1st, 2020 at the National Convocation Hall (Fonomalo) on Constitution Hill in Elderpointe, the national capital. It was the twelfth-consecutive Assembly dating back to 1960 that featured the Red Coalition in the leadership, but the first Assembly in that stretch not to feature a majority government. The Red Coalition was forced to caucus with select members of the Gray Coalition in order to form a government. It is the first Coalition Government in the Palemene since the Gray-Green Coalition between 1945 and 1960. The Honorable Councilor Adlai R. Sawea-Nua'a (MP-Nowra VI) of the Social Democrats was elected to the position of High Chancellor, replacing the retired Social Democratic incumbent Aerin P. Leota after seven years in office. The Honorable Councilor Leti M. Sio (MP-Leura II) of Labour was elected to her first term as Vice Chancellor, and the Honorable Councilor Daniel T. Asiata (MP-Leura XXV) of Labour was selected to his second consecutive term as Speaker for the Majority. The Honorable Councilor John-Tu'ua Va'ai (MP-Ganmain XIV) of the National Democrats was selected to his seventh term (and fourth consecutive term) as the Leader of the Opposition, while the Honorable Councilor Isaac A. Elisara (MP-Hexham IX) of the Conservative Party was selected to his first term as the Speaker for the Minority. The five Councilors represent the Quorum, or High Leadership of the Palemene.

A.)Efeumumu, the Gray Coalition
  • Coalition of Young Patriots (Mumu Taasa Filifilga) - 0 Seats
  • Independents' Caucus (Vaega Tutoatasi) - 6 Seats
  • Libertarian Party (Pati Saoloto) – 10 Seats
  • Non-Aligned Movement (Faatul'againa Gaioiga) – 15 Seats
The Gray Coalition is a consortium of political parties and non-aligned representatives who constitute the political center in Speirsian politics. Members of the Coalition, colloquially referred to as the Grays or Independents, represent the third largest bloc in Speirsian government, though their inherent political differences preclude them from organizing into a popular front. As such, they typically forge alliances of convenience with politicians of other coalitions when such allegiances prove convenient to their pet causes. The Gray Coalition represents approximately 25%, or 31 seats in the Palemene of Speirsland.

B.)Lausimumu, the Green Coalition
  • Agana Freedom Party (Pati Taos Saolotoga) – 3 Seats
  • Conservative Party (Pati Fa'amalosi) – 8 Seats
  • National Democratic Party (Pati Faatemokalasi Malo) – Bloc Anchor – 29 Seats
The Green Coalition is a popular front of political parties who constitute the political right in Speirsian politics. Members of the Coalition, colloquially referred to as the Greens or the Traditionalists, represent the second largest bloc in Spiersian government, with the National Democratic Party forming the anchor of the bloc. The National Democrats have served as the bellwether of conservative Speirsian politics since the 12th Assembly in 1900. The Green Coalition represents 32%, or 40 seats in the Palemene of Speirsland. The Honorable Councilor John-Tu'ua Va'ai (MP-Ganmain XIV) is the current leader of the Coalition.

C.)Lanumumu, the Red Coalition
  • Communist Workers Party (Pati Faiva Faipule) - 3 Seats
  • Ecology Party (Pati Lausisi) – 10 Seats
  • Labour Party (Pati Galuega) – 14 Seats
  • Social Democratic Party (Pati Sosaiete Fafesogai) – Bloc Anchor – 26 Seats
The Red Coalition is a popular front of political parties who constitute the political left in Speirsian politics. Members of the Coalition, colloquially referred to as the Reds or Progressives, represent the largest bloc in the Spiersian government, with the Social Democratic Party forming the anchor of the bloc. The Social Democrats have served as the bellwether of liberal Speirsian politics since the 1st Assembly in 1840. The Red Coalition represents 42%, or 53 seats in the Palemene of Speirsland. The Honorable Councilor Adlai R. Sawea-Nua'a (MP-Nowra VI) is the current leader of the Coalition.

D.)Uliumumu, the Black Coalition
  • Anarchists of Speirsland (Noanoa o Taus'fauna) – 0 Seats
  • Christian Kingdom Party (Pati Malo Kerisia) – 0 Seats
  • National Socialists Party (Pati Malasosae) – 0 Seats
  • Restorationist Union (Faatasi Tagata Toefa) – 1 Seat
The Black Coalition is the informal term issued to a consortium of non-affiliated political parties whose legality was – until 1987 – called into question. Members of this informal Coalition, colloquially referred to as the Radicals, are the smallest bloc of the Speirsian political establishment and constitute the radical fringe of the Greater Commonwealth. The Black Coalition includes anarchists, fascists, monarchical restorationists and theocrats among its ranks, and represents less than 1%, or a single seat in the Palemene of Speirsland. As of 2020, four political parties carry the designation of Black Coalition members:

1.) The Restorationist Union (Formed: 1840 | Outlawed: 1840 | Reconstituted: 1927) – a polity of arch-conservatives who seek to restore the deposed Speirsian Monarchy to the Greater Commonwealth. The Monarchists of the 1st Assembly were quickly banished and considered an outlaw political faction at odds with the new democratic government; the Party's Charter was reconstituted in 1927 by the 17th Assembly after the Restorationists modified their platform to establish a constitutional monarchy. The Restorationists are considered the most moderate of the far-right parties and is the only party to seat a Councilor in 2020.

2.) The Anarchists of Speirsland (Formed: 1840 | Outlawed: 1840 | Reconstituted: 1932) – a polity of anarcho-socialists and voluntaryists who seek to eliminate most government institutions from the Greater Commonwealth. The Anarchists of the 1st Assembly, like the Restorationists, were deemed an imminent threat to the survival of Speirsian democracy and were outlawed as a political force by the 1st Assembly. In 1932, the Superior Court ruled in Maivia v. Solafa that the Assembly held no legal basis to bar a political party without due process, thus granting de facto reconstitution in the 18th Assembly. The Anarchists have never seated a Councilor in the Palemene, and are considered the only far-left party in the Black Coalition at present.

3.) The Christian Kingdom Party (Formed: 1897 | Outlawed: 1936 | Reconstituted: 1987) – a polity of far-right conservatives, Catholic nativists and other Christian Orthodoxies who seek to establish an autocratic Christian theocracy in Speirsland. Known as the Kingmakers, the Party was outlawed by the 19th Assembly in 1936 following the revelation of the Tamsbarrow Cabal, a conspiracy involving select Kingmakers and Fascists to overthrow the Palemene of the Greater Commonwealth. The passage of the Freedom of Conscience Political Fairness Act (FCPFA) by the 29th Assembly in 1987 made it illegal for the Palemene to outlaw the free association of individuals based on their political ideologies, thus granting de facto reconstitution in the 29th Assembly. The Kingmakers have only seated two Councilors in their history, both of whom served prior to the revocation of the Party's Charter in 1936. Since 2000, the Party has failed to field a candidate for political office on a national level.

4.) The National Socialists Party (Formed: 1902 | Outlawed: 1936 | Reconstituted: 1987) – a polity of fascists and other racially-motivated ideologues who seek to establish a nativist dictatorship in Speirsland. The involvement of key party officials in the Tamsbarrow Cabal led to the revocation of the Party's Charter in 1936, but the FCPFA in 1987 formed the basis for de facto reconstitution in the 29th Assembly. The National Socialists have never seated a Councilor in the Palemene, and are considered one of the most radical and dangerous political groups in all of Speirsland, despite their limited influence nationally.
