These were mostly from the descendants of the original, human colonists being mostly composed of Germans, Slavs and Englishmen.
  • English
  • German
  • Russian

Few other human languages, besides offshoots of Russian, such as Belarussian, are understood or indeed even known by the citizens of the Hegemony. They've kinda been out of the loop of Earth politics for a couple millenia. There are several other languages, used by the neko population and a small majority of the human population, although this is rarely used for matters outside the Hegemony itself.

Main: Augarian
A harsh, unique tongue. It's extremely simple, and has virtually no grammatical rules; it sounds like a combination of Russian, Italian, and German. However, most direction translations do not make perfect sense... for example:
-Avre makhguta agrutz.
Dissection of each word:
-Avre=I do (It is for/of my will)
-Makhguta/r (Possess/have. The last 'a' would be replaced by 'ar' if the verb wasn't conjugated)
-Agrutz ("Water hunger"/Thirst)
English: "It is for my will that I possess the great thirst for water."
Making sense of it: "I'm rather thirsty."

Second: English.
English is learned early on.By age 8, most Augarians are fluent in Augarian and English.

Capitalism is always the answer. Whenever there's a problem in capitalism, you just need some more capitalism. If the solution isn't capitalism, then it's not really a problem. If your capitalism gets damaged, you just need to throw some capitalism on it and get on with your life.

Official languages:
Nirou-ki (Niuri) [Main language]
First spoken by New-Shardian society, this language became the ubiquitous with Nirou, and later Niur.

Shadjhar (Shardian)
Spoken by the Old Shardians, this language is common throughout Shardia and southern Nirou. It has phonetic characteristics that are unique in a Niuri language.

Kaïta-מi (Kaita)
The basis for many of the islands languages, this ancient tongue has changed much over the last 7000 years, yet still retains certain traits which make it unique from other Niuri languages. Much like the greek or latin of the islands

K∙⋰ķ⋮Į⋯מ (New Kaitan)
Spoken on New Kait, this language descends from both Shadjhar and Kaïta-מi, it is spoken at a very fast rate, up to 5 words a second, and this prevents most outsiders from learning this beautiful language.

ױװnײַרּײױװ (Native Senica)
Spoken only in Senica and the small outlying islands, this language is derived from ancient Nacre, and is quick and easy to speak and write. It is also said that this language is the easiest for non-Mesai to learn. With its many reverential terms and its quickness, it is the choice for many Senica business men.

├╩╥╧╩╤╓╡╠╬╔╗⌐┤(Balt-pelan)
The least known language of the islands, this is a mixture of New Kaitan and Pelani, spoken only on western New Kait

ֱ۲ְֵֶׂ۶ֳ۹ֲٌٍٕۣۡ۸(Pelani)
Spoken by the Pelani, the only native humans to the islands, this is a very different language from almost all other Niuri languages, and is believed to be a descent of an ancient american language.

Unofficial languages:

Nahuatl [Most common foreign language]
In the mid 1500's a group of fleeing Mexica (Aztec) running from the Spaniards stumbled upon Niur. They were allowed to settle on a part of Shardia, and the language has stuck ever since

English
New in Niur, this language is only spoken in large international cities such as Niur city and Shard city

Japanese
Introduced during WWII, this is still spoken by many communities of Pelani and Mesai on Nacre.

Various local dialects
There are almost 300 different smaller dialects, most very similar to one of the larger languages, a few very different. In the 20th century many of these languages almost went extinct, but due to cultural restoration, many are now rebounding.
