Dispatched: 25 February 2035
Nations of the world, I am thrilled to announce the opening of Vistovo's embassy programme!
The People's Commune of Vistovo is located in Southeast Europe; our territory includes parts of the former Hungary, Serbia, and Croatia. We are a technocratic republic, with a syndicalist economy made up of many workers' self-managed operations. Our laws are generally very libertarian, with legal substance use, lack of censorship, and an almost-complete absence of police. Despite this, our nation is one of the safest and most peaceful in the world, thanks largely in part to our mandatory brain modifications which "turn off" violent impulses. (Your diplomats will not be forced to undergo this operation, but we do expect them to behave themselves regardless.)
Though our government is ardently anti-capitalist and anti-fascist, we are willing to consider peaceful diplomatic relations with all nations. Do not feel as if you cannot apply due to your political or economic system. That said, overly aggressive/militaristic nations are unlikely to be accepted, unless we feel maintaining a peaceful relationship with them is within the realm of possibility.
All embassies will be located in the diplomatic complex in our capital city, New Visegrád. Embassy buildings come standard with an air purification system, high-speed internet access, solar panels (with a back-up connection to the electrical grid), access to cable television, and clean running water.
For more information on Vistovo, see our constantly-updated factbook.
Regulations and other important notes:
- Firearms of all kinds are strictly prohibited. Rest assured that Vistovo is an incredibly safe nation with one of the lowest crime rates in the world. However, if you feel it necessary, we will permit only non-lethal weapons, only to be used by trained security staff.
- We encourage your staff to utilise our public transportation system, which includes subway networks underneath our major cities, and mag-lev trains connecting the various cities and villages. If you choose to bring vehicles, this can be accommodated as well - but due to oil scarcity in Vistovo, we highly recommend you bring electric vehicles.
- Any member of your embassy staff or their families are free to make full use of Vistovo's extensive public education system. This includes everything from children's preschooling, to your ambassador getting her doctorate. We highly encourage it; we're big on education.
- For our record-keeping purposes, we ask that you declare any drugs or alcohol that you are bringing in. They are, however, entirely legal here -- you can use them even outside of the embassy.
- All of your embassy staff will receive a Vistovan ID card, which also doubles as a debit card allowing them to make purchases with our digital currency. For security purposes, we ask that they wear (or at least carry on their person) the ID card when off the embassy premises. A sample ID can be seen in our factbook; please note that yours will be labelled "Diplomatic" rather than "Citizen".
- Our major languages are Hungarian and Serbo-Croatian. While it is handy if your ambassador speaks one of these languages, it is certainly not required. Translators can be hired if needed, and diplomats can also take language courses at a local university if they choose.
- It is true that Europe (in our timeline) is known for having abysmally poor air quality, but living in Vistovo is perfectly safe given that you take proper precautions:
- To ensure your embassy's air purifier works effectively, do not keep doors or windows open longer than necessary.
- If going outdoors for long periods of time, wear a mask over the nose and mouth, as not to breathe in any particles or other crap that's floating in the air.
Should any illness overcome your embassy staff, they are welcome to visit one of our hospitals at no charge.- We abide by standard diplomatic immunity guidelines.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me and I will provide answers to the best of my ability.
Best regards,
Dr. Vladan Boros
Head of the Foreign Affairs Oversight Committee
