anarchist countries done right

Postby Victoriala II » Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:54 pm

I'm considering Nurajaya to become coshared/npc concept since I don't really click with the idea lore-,wise, and while I would still like to work with its religion and some of its culture, I'd rather do something fresh and novel this time.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: "Oceanic Communities"/"Free Zones" (自由區/海區/해역) - Haiqu or Haegu or Haeyeog
Real life culture influence: multicultural, native population somewhere between dayak, taiwanese and polynesian
Real life culture of former colonizer:
Population: ~10 to ~15,000
GDP (PPP) per capita: not applicable
GDP (nominal) per capita: not applicable
Military manpower (active/reserve): not applicable (somewhere around ~2,000 militia, pirates and volunteers concerned with defense and whatnot)
Language(s): various, Cantonese and Korean common lingua francas
Nation description:
The Free Zones (aka Haeyeog) is, by all intents and purposes, a country. More accurately, it is a counter-society—a sociopolitical order diametrically opposed to the rest of the world. Sovereign, but not a state, thriving without authority. A supposed abberation in the modern world, the Free Zones are a loose collection of communes (more accurately, zones a défendre) over the ocean, consisting of a myriad of pirates, "debauchery-crazed degenerates", refugees, asylum seekers, rosy-eyed lovers of freedom and starry-eyed adventure-seekers. It is a country in a sense that is is a diplomatic entity, albeit a very inconsistent one. In short, Sea Gypsies for anarchy.

The islands in which the free zones currently stand was once a private estate under the nominal authority of Meisaan or Jeongmi. Claimed by a private corporation under the good graces of the government in the immediate postwar era, the native populations of the islands became subject to repression, marginalization and sometimes straight up indentured servitude. Owing to the archipelago's land area and geography, however, the native populations managed to create a guerilla resistance movement (a la brazilian maroons) that caught the attention of radicals from the mainlands. In the participation of these foreign sympathizers, the drive to drive the corporation out of the islands mutated into a drive for the creation of a freed society, a beacon for victims of oppression all around the world. Resistance and occupation overlap, and after multiple efforts by governments and the corporation to retake the occupation, the efforts eventually halted. The occupation exists to this day, aided by international support and the diplomatic impunity through the Free Territories.

Lacking a central order, the zones adhere towards a polycentric system supported only by a semi-direct democratic chamber simply called the "assembly", a procedural only to convene at times of high urgency. communities actively experimenting with everything that may or may not work, from rogue science, local computer networks to social and economic organization. Inspired by environmentalist currents from the earlier foreign volunteers the various communities in their own way try their best to preserve what is left of the islands' ecological sanctity. Communities openly interact with each other and rarely interfere with each others' affairs. Other forms of social organization include cliques, guilds, cooperatives. Among the most prominent include the Band of Poets, a collective of artists that organize events within the communes of Samgeung and the Vana Tiruvana, an indigenous priesthood that has garnered a local following among the new settlers.

Piracy (both in the torrent and raiding contexts), contraband, illegal drugs and other shady dealings are a common thing in the zones (though the latter tends are looked upon with disgust, since most of these perpetuate the very thing the zones are against). In regards to piracy, particularly some raiding groups ported in the islands have made the zones deeply suspect in their activities. However, as long as the zones stand, the Free Zones continue to be a symbol of struggle and resistance against the state, capital and its cronies.

Are you willing to drastically alter your nation in order to fit with Tiandi canon?: I mean this is a given.

Shortform name: Altiqala
Real life culture influence: Turkic (Kazakh) primarily with Mongolic influences
Real life culture of former colonizer: Probably highly influenced by Jeongmian presence in Western Yoju but not outright colonized (if that's OK)
Population: 78.3 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: $8,500
GDP (nominal) per capita: $3,500
Military manpower (active/reserve): 390,000 (250,000 active / 140,000 reserve)
Language(s): Kazakh; though traditional Mongolian script is used by the government. Cyrillic is utilized by the nation's Christian minority and Arabic script is used by the Muslim community.
Nation description:

Altiqala (ᠠᠫᠲᠪᠢ ᠬᠠᠯᠠ lit. the six cities) was formed by six nations of Turkic peoples which had migrated to north-western Yoju. Previous to its unification these tribes were often at odd with their Germanic and Celtic neighbors, many of whom were absorbed as vassals throughout the 1300s and 1400s. Religious pluralism allowed for a number of distnict religious communities to develop within these nations; though Tengrism remained the dominant religion amongst the Altian nations. In 1475 the six nations were united during the Altian Wars under Aslan I, who proclaimed himself as Khan of the Six Cities; in reference to the six capitals of the Turkic peoples in north western Yoju. Altiqala was organized into a federal, elective monarchy wherein a Khan was elected by six representatives from each historical nation. As a unified force Altiqala exercised significant influence on western Yoju in the 1500s and 1600s; invading neighboring states and absorbing them as vassals. Absorbed states were allowed limited representation though they were not considered among the original six nations and thus could not take place in the election of a Khan. This, coupled with organized disdain from the Christian world, led to rising internal tensions.

These tensions boiled over in 1708 during the Easter Rebellion which saw a Christian uprising that would later led to Altiqala being pitted against a Christian coalition. Significant territorial losses and internal divisions left the nation crippled. In 1738 the Khaqnazar Uprising saw a violent transition of government which disrupted the traditional institutions of government. The system of electoral monarchy eventually faded in favor of a hereditary system. Altiqala would be ruled by a series of different ruling families throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Jeongmian influence in western Yoju would ultimately prevent Altiqala from reclaiming any previously lost territory during the Eastern Rebellion and led to the country adopting several reforms in order to favor Jeongmina economic and military interests in the region. Political and economic disastisfaction with the unstable monarchy led to the Altian Revolution (1901-1905) which saw the implementation of a republican form of government. The Altian Republic was significantly more open in its relations with Sinju, leading to increased trade and later attempts at modernization using countries such as Jeongmi and Meisaan as models.

In the post-war era Altiqala is classified as a developing country. It's main concerns are its southern neighbor, Alcmenia, with whom it has been at odds with in one form or another for centuries. The nations, while technically a democracy, has been governed by the nationalist People's Development Party which has been relatively open (and to some extent, encouraging) about tensions with Alcmenia.

So recently I’ve been kind of struggling with some of my current concepts, mainly Hesapa. So I’m going to be giving up Hesapa in favor of something that I’ve been working on on the side as talked about.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Ryokuto
Real life culture influence: Japan
Real life culture of former colonizer: N/A
Population: 71.4 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: $42,666
GDP (nominal) per capita: $41,866
Military manpower (active/reserve): 42,000 active 100,000 reserve
Language(s): Japanese, Ainu
Nation description:

Ryokuto is a parliamentary republic located in north-eastern Sinju. The nation’s formation date is attributed to August 10, 210 BCE following the consolidation of a number of smaller kingdoms under the tutelage of the Yasuraoka Dynasty. Significant political and social change occurred with the arrival of Buddhism and other ideas from the mainland of Sinju through the way of Jeongmi. Tianqi influence also played a large part in shaping the early history of Ryokuto. However, after the fall of Tianqi central rule began to deteriorate as local daimyos amassed more and more power. The feudal era saw the rise and fall of various families and states, all “theoretically” beholden to the Emperor in Koshi but vying for control over various positions in the Imperial government as well as military control of the individual regions of the isles.

The Feudal Era came to a close in 1491 with the reformation of the Imperial government under the Uesato Dynasty. The capital was relocated to Shinkyo in 1504 following a number of gradual reforms over the decades which further centralized the government as well as codified the new Imperial legal system, largely based on a reformed system of the previous Ritsuryo legal code. The Ryokuan Empire saw rapid growth throughout the 1600s and 1700s as a center of economic and political activity in north-eastern Sinju. At its height the Ryokuan Empire had a number of overseas colonies and administered, both directly and indirectly, a number of colonial trading companies.

By the 1780s the Empire was in a slow decline however, losing a number of territories abroad to Jeongmi/Meisaan (??) in a series of conflicts in the late 18th century. This coupled with the ascension of the controversial Emperor Go-Chukyo who was viewed as an illegitimate heir by certain factions within the Imperial government. This eventually resulted in a civil war, known as the Joko Revolution, in 1815 which saw the abdication and exile of the Emperor and the restructuring of the government into parliamentary system whereby the Daijo-kan acts as the head of state, indirectly elected through general elections. The 1800s saw Ryokuto reestablish several overseas territories, but eventually seceding them following the end of the Eulhae War.

Ryokuto today is a developed country with a high standard of living. It is considered a relatively important economic, cultural, and political center in Sinju.

NATION APPLICATION 1

Shortform name: Confederate Republic of Khaipurdelkhand
Real life culture influence: Malagasy/North Indian/Slavic minority
Real life culture of former colonizer: Desi
Population: 38,987,211
GDP (PPP) per capita: 12,123
GDP (nominal) per capita: 56 Billion
Military manpower (active/reserve): 348,229
Language(s): Khaipurdelkhaani (Hindi), Folonansy (Malagasy), Neo-Slavhoki (Slavic/Hindi creole)
Nation description:
The Landmass that Khaipurdelkhand encompasses was devoid of any human settlement for quite a while longer than usual. It is theorized that migrants from the eastern islands across the seas first landed upon the island in 900, carving up coastal lands between them and setting up warlord states. Before that, according to Bantu fishermen and supported by biological findings, the island was teeming and brimming with mega fauna and peculiar flora, much of which has become extinct with the advent of human settlement.

During a Panidesi golden age, the rulers of that nation sent rich Hindu merchants and Brahmin to the island to both colonize tiny trading ports and to send troublemakers far away from the mainland. This was an issue, as these were already rebellious nobles. A ten year war of independence was fought between the Hindu colonists and the Muslim-ruled mainland, resulting in a total victory for the colonists. At first, the individual city states were independent of each other, but they banded together and created the Confederate Republic of Khaipurdelkhand. The first five presidents are considered reincarnations of ancient Hindu heroes by the Hindu population of Khaipurdelkhand.

The population of Khaipurdelkhandi was boosted by immigration from all over Yoju, motivated by the offer of cheap land stolen from the Folonasy natives. However, the Folonasy themselves were becoming Hindu themselves and acclimating to the new climate, cultures being similar already. A new solution was needed for cheap labor, something better than the current serf system. It was first decided by the final Divine President to try to enslave the nearby Bantu peoples, but these people were hard to control, and easily found their way home across the tiny channel nearby. The same man found a solution in the farthest reaches of Yoju.

Slave trading routes were made through Panidesi and the seas to reach West Yoju, bringing back slaves from that area and putting them to work in brutal conditions among the tea, cotton, sugar, and opium plantations. The vast majority of the slaves were of Slavic and Nordic heritage, and therefore have been taken incredibly far from their homelands. They also could not acclimate to their new dwellings and have always been an out-caste, becoming literal untouchables in their new home. The free Khaipurdelkhani poor also were empowered with bounties on escaped slaves, becoming a secondary high caste and sometimes purchasing land. Through the slave and luxury trade, the capital of Raijur within the large bay on the island boomed to a large size, housing diaspora from around the world and becoming a rich trading hub, while the rest of the nation languished in poverty. This boiled into two civil wars, one massive slave revolt in the 1850s to 1860s that was successfully smashed by the Confederacy, and one that ripped the nobility in two from 1932-1947. This time, the outside world was able to pressure the rotting nation into finally banning slavery in 1947. By then, the capital became a hull of what it used to be, it's diaspora communities returning home, the nobility pretending to still hold relevance in the world.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Shomera
Real life culture influence: Israel/the Levant (Predominantly Mizrahim, minorities of Druze, Christians, Samaritans, Muslims, and Assyrians)
Real life culture of former colonizer: Occupied by Nuurgalaan following the invasion of the Kingdom of Shomera in 1660~
Population: 79.3 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: $35,500
GDP (nominal) per capita: $31,000
Military manpower (active/reserve): 234,000 total. (134,000 active/100,000~ reserve)
Language(s): Modern Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic
Nation description:

The region of Shomera has a long history, being considered a place of holiness to a number of Abrahamic faiths. The factuality of the traditional origin story of the state is disputed, however actual or not the Shomerna government considers the modern state's roots to be found in the Torah, stemming from the lineage of the Kingdom of Yehudah. Modern archeology confirms the existence of the Yehudan monarchy but the existence of the patriarchs and other elements of the Yehudan Bible are still contested. The Yehudan Kingdom lasted roughly from 1050 - 820 BCE before splitting into a number of petty states, the largest being the Shomeran Kingdom. From this point onward the area was invaded and occupied over several centuries, eventually seeing a diffusion of the Jewish population across South-Western Yoju due to the destruction of the Temple in the capital of Shalem and subsequent occupations. The Kingdom of Shomera was refounded around the city of Shalem, under the Shalev Dynasty. Under the Shalev Dynasty the Kingdom of Shomera expanded, claiming historical territory of the Kingdom of Yehudah and expanding even further. The Shalev Kingdom lasted until 1150 ACE before being occupied by the Alemqedic Empire. Alemqedic occupation lasted until roughly 1420 ACE. With no suitable heir to the throne, the destruction of the Second Temple by the Alemqedics, and a schism in the priesthood the region stood divided into tribes and smaller states oncemore.

These states were eventually overtaken once more by Nuurgalaan in 1660. The region remained under occupation until the 1810s during the Great Revolution, which saw the reinstatement of an independent Shomeran State. The Treaty of Haderah saw the recognition of the Shomeran State and the drafting of a constitution, which prescribed the new Shomrean state be set up as a republic with equal rights for all. The state still recognizes Judaism as the religion of Shomera however religious freedom is a right enshrined in the constitution's first article. The Republic's formative years were spent appeasing the Sinju powers and seeking financial investment in an attempt to help with modernization and later industrialization.

Today the state functions as a parliamentary representative republic, lead by the social democratic coalition Hizdahut. The nation has stood in opposition ideologically to its far northern neighbor Nuurgalaan ever since tensions boiled over in the 1960s over a proxy war in the buffer states along the northern border.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Anatjulu
Real life culture influence: Indigenous Australians in general and the Pitjantjatjara people in particular
Real life culture of former colonizer: N/A or Japanese depending
Population: 83,412,684
GDP (PPP) per capita: $25,657
GDP (nominal) per capita: $20,153
Military manpower (active/reserve): 154,000 active | 212,000 reserve
Language(s): Lelase
Nation description: The Co-operative Imperial Union of Anatjulu is a sovereign transcontinental empire in western Namju and southern Miju. Over 80% of its territory consists of Namju territory, as well as 90% of its population; the rest of the country is divided between Uunalyala County on [whatever that island's called] off the coast of eastern Miju, New Ranga County in southeastern Miju, and the outlying islands.

Human population of the Anatjulu homeland along the Three Great Rivers is relatively new, only being inhabited for the past 600,000 years, but its first civilization, the Ataua Empire, is one of the oldest in the world, its oldest records being dated to the 5th millennium BCE. It is considered one of the world's cradles of civilization, and its ancient civilizations built some of the world's most famous landmarks, as well as the ruins of cities such as Etitu and Yantawika. Its distance from other early civilizations, however, meant that its development was largely isolated, and its influence was minuscule until the 1st millennium AD.

In 1103, following the Sixth War of the Wolves, the Anatjulu Empire was founded in the village of Tjutjuna, and quickly grew to dominate over the other warlord states on the Three Great Rivers. Its primarily thalassocratic empire grew to dominate trade in the Ulbyeon Ocean, reaching as far as Jeongmi on occasion; In order to reach the resource-rich lands of Miju, it established three colonies on the continent, one of which was destroyed in a massacre in 1653. In 1781, while in dire financial straits, the empire agreed to be vassals to the Fusenese, and maintained that status until its independence in 1903. Following its forced involvement in various wars on the other side of the planet, the Empire established a strict neutral policy, and has since seen prosperity and economic growth. In 1937, the Helmetshrike Revolution saw the empire lose much of its power and switch to a semi-parliamentary system, one which has seen various periods of relative upheaval. Since the 1950s, the increased globalization of the world saw Anatjulu's relevance blossom as it started trading with nations all over the globe, and immigrants from every corner of the world came to start a new life in the nation. With the exception of a recession in 1988-93, the nation has seen its most prosperous era in its history in the last century.

Over 83 million people live in Anatjulu, making it one of the most populous nations in Tiandi. The vast majority of its population lives along one of the Three Great Rivers, whose banks host the only arable land of the Anatjuluan homeland. The northern deserts and southern plains and mountains are sparsely inhabited, although their population has risen dramatically over the past 15 years. Only 55% of the nation is ethnically native to Anatjulu; most of the rest trace their ancestry to Miju, with Sinju and Uju minorities. The capital of Anatjulu, New Tjutjuna City, boasts an urban agglomeration of over 30 million people, making it one of the largest cities in the world.

Anatjulu is considered a major power in most of the southern hemisphere, and a middle power globally; in spite of a large military, it maintains one of the longest traditions of neutrality in the world, and is considered a joint leader of the non-aligned movement. Its economy is one of the largest and fastest growing in the southern hemisphere, due to a surge in agricultural growth and industrial development. Anatjulu is a member of the Congress of Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, and Southern Cross Mutual Development Union.

Anatjulu is a highly developed country, its standard of living in the cities being one of the highest in the world, and its urban population enjoys high rates of education and economic equality; its rural areas, though, tend to be more unequal and undeveloped. Its entire population, however, is one of the healthiest and longest-lived in the world, due to a world-renowned healthcare system. Its culture has grown increasingly popular in the last 25 years, particularly its media and music.

Population: 79.3 million

Population: 91,500,000

Over time the Korean and Japanese languages and culture melded together to create Yokotarian. Yokotari is an autocracy ruled by an ancient Imperial Family originally hailing from Japan. Wakizashi's and Katana's are common among the middle and upper classes, though they are mainly ceremonial. The lower classes tend to be made up of farmers, artisans and fishermen. Yokotari holds a strong marshal spirit, loyalty and honor are valued highly, but so is ambition.

The Empire of Yokotari is a Alternate Nation of the person who rules over The Frozen Forest, it is purposely mean to not represent my personal views, and is meant to mimic a Japanese Empire-esque state. I have no intention of letting it fade away and i intend to develop it. If you want to interact with it shoot me a telegram either through this nation or The Frozen Forest.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Naamgwok
Real life culture influence: Hui people, Cantonese
Real life culture of former colonizer: (if applicable) Happy to discuss this in detail based on the worldbuilding that's already been done. I am currently envisaging a Cantonese-speaking nation previously part of a larger regional empire which gained its independence in the early 20th century, partly on account of it's unique position as a majority-Muslim Chinese state.
Population: 21,599,582
GDP (PPP) per capita: £9,459
GDP (nominal) per capita: £4,644
Military manpower (active/reserve): 109,100 active // 300,000 reserves
Language(s): Cantonese
Nation description: Naamgwok is inspired by the Xidaotang sect of Chinese Hui Muslims, albeit reoriented to a southern Chinese setting. It is a cultural and religious syncretism between traditional Chinese culture and Confucian classics and Sunni Islam. Its governance is modelled on the Xidaotang-Hanafi understanding of the shari'a (教乘) and is practically a constitutional monarchy not dissimilar to the system Morocco presently has. The inland areas are to a large part given over to agricultural land, with most cities concentrated along the coast, where successive monarchs have promoted the retention of traditional aesthetic styles, though modernisation reforms have taken place since the mid-to-late 20th century.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: 玉川/Tamagawa
Real life culture influence: Japanese cultural influence
Real life culture of former colonizer: N/A
Population: 18.3 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: $66,742
GDP (nominal) per capita: $61,348
Military manpower (active/reserve): 80,000 active/250,000 reserves
Language(s): Japanese
Nation description: Tamagawa is nominally a monarchy with an Imperial Family, but in practice it is a highly-liberalised parliamentary democracy where the Emperor serves as little more than a cultural figurehead, with a unicameral legislature and a Prime Minister, the country is increasingly culturally-secular with a growing number of irreligious citizens, but with the bulk of the population still following a syncretistic mixture of traditional East Asian religions with strong influences from Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Shintoism (owing to the ceremonial role of the Imperial Family). The legislature regularly changes hands between the two main parties, the centre-right 民主党 and the centre-left 自由進歩党, and while nominally a parliamentary democracy, loose election regulations and highly-liberal lobbying laws means that Tamagawa is in reality a plutocracy, with elected governments dominated and heavily-influenced by a small number of highly-motivated and wealthy families (colloquially referred to as 家族), in particular five main family clans (遠山氏、松平氏、保科氏、竹中氏、小松氏) whose large family trust estates hold investment in vast areas of the economy, particularly in real estate, banking, mining, textiles and rare earth minerals production, functioning more as a corporatist and oligopolistic economic system in practice. Owing to the high-degree of control and influence wielded by the small clique of business trustees or 商議徒党, Tamagawa is a business-friendly country, with very low income and corporate taxes and no capital gains, estate, financial transactions and dividends taxes, no stamp duties on land conveyances, strong banking and financial secrecy laws and a very open immigration and refugee policy. Accordingly, the Tamagawan people are relatively culturally-open and comparatively-receptive to the influx non-Tamagawan foreign cultures, with the capital city of 桜京市 acting as both of a bustling financial transactions hub and a highly-diverse and cosmopolitan ethno-cultural melting pot. Tamagawa suffers from particularly-high rates of income inequality, which often generates some internal unrest and dissatisfaction amongst the country's lower-income citizenry, particularly due to the overrepresentation of ethnic minorities in the bottom 10% of Tamagawa's households. The nation generally takes a non-interventionist stance on foreign wars and conflicts, its main foreign policy interests lie mainly in seeking to promote trade liberalisation and trade agreements with other countries, and attracting greater foreign investment into Tamagawa, all other foreign policy interests are generally secondary to these two.

I think the only issues are the location and the Cantonese. We already have another well-established Cantonese speaking nation and it'd be unusual for your nation to be so far away from it. I'd also like to note that your location is right at the equator, which would provide a setting that is completely different from Southern China.

The legislature regularly changes hands between the two main parties, the centre-right 民主党 and the centre-left 自由進歩党, and while nominally a parliamentary democracy, loose election regulations and highly-liberal lobbying laws means that Gyokusen is in reality a plutocracy, with elected governments dominated and heavily-influenced by a small number of highly-motivated and wealthy families (colloquially referred to as 家族), in particular five main family clans (遠山氏、松平氏、保科氏、竹中氏、小松氏) whose large family trust estates hold investment in vast areas of the economy, particularly in real estate, banking, mining, textiles and rare earth minerals production, functioning more as a corporatist and oligopolistic economic system in practice. Owing to the high-degree of control and influence wielded by the small clique of business trustees or 商議徒党, Gyokusen is a business-friendly country, with very low income and corporate taxes and no capital gains, estate, financial transactions and dividends taxes, no stamp duties on land conveyances, strong banking and financial secrecy laws and a very open immigration and refugee policy. Accordingly, the Gyokusen people are relatively culturally-open and comparatively-receptive to the influx non-Gyokusen foreign cultures, with the capital city of 桜京市 acting as both of a bustling financial transactions hub and a highly-diverse and cosmopolitan ethno-cultural melting pot. Gyokusen suffers from particularly-high rates of income inequality, which often generates some internal unrest and dissatisfaction amongst the country's lower-income citizenry, particularly due to the overrepresentation of ethnic minorities in the bottom 10% of Gyokusen households. The nation generally takes a non-interventionist stance on foreign wars and conflicts, its main foreign policy interests lie mainly in seeking to promote trade liberalisation and trade agreements with other countries, and attracting greater foreign investment into Gyokusen, all other foreign policy interests are generally secondary to these two.

Population: 22.8 million

Nation description: wiki
So for this Turkic/Kyrgyz based Sinju (on that big island to the west of Jeongmi) nation it would be rather forested and mountainous with mostly coastal and river settlements that popped up due to migration and trade. Rather temperate. Rather comfy.

The Turkic people groups came over as traders and would eventually assimilate the native Tungusic population over 800 years (500 to 1300). The first major unifying Khaganate appeared under the name of "Ran Qaghan" which may be where the name Ransuğaral came from. Alternative sources suggest it was an exonym by Sinju traders who came across the abundance of orchid-like flowers in the palaces of the Kaghans. It isn't clear, but the historical account does suggest that the namesake stems from Ran Qaghan (Lan Kehan, Ran Gahan), the individual who successfully united what would become Ransuğaral, and the Turkic words for water, suu. Eventually, the "pureblood" Turkic inhabitants which made most of the nobility and merchant class quickly Sinicized/Koreanized, adopting customs from Jeongmi (including scripts; Hanja and Hangul that replaced their Uyghur one) and mainland Sinju. However, they also Turkicized much of the sparse native population in the process, especially evident during the early settlement, contact, and eventual conquest of the region. In present day Ransuğaral these indigenous Tungusic peoples have pressured for recognition of their culture, language, and heritage.

Religious practices, however, are slightly different from mainland Sinju although not too dissimilar from northern Sinju (Jeongmi), Yoju (other Turkic and Mongolic nations), and Uju. Animism and shamanism, as well as worship of a henotheistic heavenly order, is characteristic of Ransuğaralese spirituality. The largest "organized" religion being some Dharmic faith although the presence is rather minimal. However, the government is somewhat cold to foreign religious movements, instead promoting the native, personal spirituality. For the most part Ransuğaralese are not very religious, but very receptive of natural spirituality which is reflected among its ardent support of ecological movements and preservation of nature. Ultimately this is a choice made so I can sub in Islamic terms in Kyrgyz/Proto Turkic with Sanskrit/Dharmic ones.

Mixed market economy, not as developed as mainland Sinju. IRL analogue can be Portugal/Cyprus/Poland. Somewhat oligarchic and controlled by political clans/dynasties. Currently would be governed by a nationalist, populist leader and their cadre albeit one that is rather progressive (environmentalist, anti-corporate influence, somewhat against the existing political dynasties) on some aspects and being a bit draconian in others (cultural chauvinism and some weird hodge-podge of mild xenophobic sentiment mixed with pan Turkic irredentism/militarism)

History would probably go:
Breakaway from larger Turkic/Mongolic Khaganate -> sea traders, sea raiders, and settlers on that island -> confederacy of various settler and native groups -> post 1400 unification and start of more rapid Sinicization/falls under Jeongmi's sphere of influence -> 1800s nationalist movements and modernization -> 1900s turmoil and some political upheaval -> 2000s contemporary era, populists begin to dominate in the new 10s
