Edited the page starter.

My word, you're right! I'm sorry, I thought I had updated it after that, as it was your original colony. I will fix.

All the maps have now been updated. I will be adding the nations and races in due time, but will first be putting my efforts into getting a few replies up in all the RP's I'm engaged in.

Also, while I was doing this update, I realized that we now have 14 members. Congratulations, Meridia!

This calls for a celebration! Wooo! Shall we have a semi-IC party?

Did you actually post a thread yet? If so, please link it so that I can add it to the list.

And while what you've done is perfectly correct, it's not what I was meaning when I offered the suggestion to expand upon your original post. I was saying write more story. Don't just say she set out towards the sea, say what she's seeing, how she's navigating the waves, what type of craft she's on. More importantly, what direction is she heading? Get a couple more paragraphs going. My own intro RP, The Old and the New, has 3 full length posts setting up the scene. I find it's easier to get involved when there's several paragraphs of story to begin with. It's more to work off of, you know?

But that's just me. I'm not the King of Writing, so you do you, and let me know when you've posted the thread.

> Don't just say she set out towards the sea - Nobody IC is meant to know what's happening, I'm keeping it ambiguous as a result.
> say what she's seeing, how she's navigating the waves, what type of craft she's on. - The Entwined don't even realise the sea exists yet (they've forgotten it). They won't be travelling the sea until after a long time.
> More importantly, what direction is she heading? - This is more a discovery of Noreia - 13, and also about finding the sea, things like that. The sea won't be explored yet.

I'll try and expand the story later.

Hey, guys? Could I convince you all to come up with at least eight objects, sights or ideas that defines the life of your average citizen? It'd make it easier to get a better idea of what life's like in your neck of the woods.

I'm going to be making a full factbook eventually, as I have a pretty good idea of what sort of nation I want to be now. But to tide you over, here's a brief list:

Important Landmarks

-Sacred Groves: Spread about the forests of Taledonia are ancient spots strong in magical energy. These hotspots are held sacred by the druids, the unofficial holy men of the realm. Some areas are simply natural clearings in the wood, or bubbling springs and creeks. Others are ruins, mossy and lichen covered, that speak of times past. The most important, however, hold henges: circles of giant stones stacked upon each other in various forms.

-The Amber Throne: High up in the Cloudburst Mountains sits a valley of poplar and pine. At the center of this depression is the ruin of an old Shadow fortress, long decayed and torn down, with only the structural bones remaining to be seen. Yet in the center of what was once the central courtyard grows a massive redwood tree, despite the elevation and rocky soil. This tree stretches up nearly 250 feet, and its trunk is 20 feet in diameter. Within the base of its mighty trunk is carved a stately throne, solidified over time by the trees own sap which has hardened into amber. The Amber Throne predates the Shadow, and none know its origin. But what is known is that the Winds of Magic are strong in this place, and Spirits are drawn to it. It is the official seat of power for Taledonia, despite Taledon being the capital.

Legends say that it was the Amber Throne that saved Taledonia from the Shadow. The first king, entering into a covenant with the Spirits of the World, and so long as his bloodline remains upon the throne, the Spirits will be relatively friendly to the people, and will help keep the Shadow away.

Lofty Ideals

-Individual Freedom: The Lords and Ladies of Taledonia are fiercely independent, and will defend their rights by force of arms if necessary. And while this does not always trickle down to allowing the people do as they wish, it is generally understood that every man can be the driver of his own destiny. Indeed, many are enrolling in the various institutions of learning, becoming familiar with the natural sciences. Philosophers have started to supplant the druids as cultural leaders. And many more have flocked to the Navy, which not only provides meals and shelter, but a chance to explore the world and become rich off the spoils taken from pirates and corsairs. Finally, there are several budding entrepreneurs who are driving a rapid colonization effort; forming great companies to settle and exploit lands across the seas.

-Tradition: Taledonians are a superstitious lot. Spirits, after all, are a cornerstone of Taledonian history and culture. As such, the old ways of doing things are seen as the right ways, particularly when it comes to social matters like proper etiquette and manners, laws, covenants and the social hierarchy. This is not to say that innovation in other fields is stifled, but simply that it is a rather conservative nation.

-Manifest Destiny: Taledonians take to water, and have a prime nautical tradition. Merchants are constantly prowling the waves, seeking new markets and new coin, while the Royal Navy has been ever growing and expanding its patrol areas, particularly in Beaver Bay. It is the belief of most men of quality, and the commoners who listen to their demagoguery, that it is good and right that Taledonian should spread about the globe, bringing light and civilization to a world recovering from the depredations of the Shadow.

All I've got for now.

Yes. There is the official, yet rarely used Amber Throne, which is ceremonial and the official symbol of the monarchy. Then there is the royal residence in Taledon, which has a throne room of its own, but is unofficial. It is, however, where the actual government sits.

And yes you may.

Interrogatory: How do "winds of magic" work? Is it just a lore thing or does it have real gameplay implications? I ask because Total War Warhammer II has such a mechanic where the strength of magic varies across each province and shifts throughout the game. So, for example, the province of Altdorf may start with a winds of magic strength of 20 and then, after say twenty-five turns, increase to 40 and then, after another twenty-five turns, decrease to 30.

Just lore. I believe I took the name from Warhammer, to boot, because it's fancy. But no, no mechanic. Your magical affinity is based upon your STEM, while the magical elements of your lands are up to you to decide. So for instance, my druids have a small amount of magic, as my STEM ranking dictates, but Taledonia itself is a land full of magic. Dangerous magic, that claims a lot of commonfolk who wander too far.

Sort of an Irish mythology thing. Paganism in general. So the magic of my land doesn't help me, but is a flavour thing that actually hinders me more than anything, as spirits are usually malevolent things. Since you're familiar with Warhammer, I like to look at it as the Warp. The thoughts of mortals shape things in the Immaterium, which then try to take shape in the Material world. And mortals don't always have happy thoughts.

For anyone who is interested I started posting maps of the Yan Dynasty in my factbook. I've been working on them basically since the start of summer. I've only got three of them up right now, but any feedback or questions are greatly appreciated. I'll be posting more of them later on today.

Oh, I'm not all that familiar with Warhammer. I just like and own the Total War games. Those last four sentences might as well be Chinese to me.

I've done that for Yan. It took quite some time cutting and pasting and making sure the map still looks good. It was still pretty fun, though. :) I used the maps to inform my history rather than the other way around.
