What is the official language of your nation?
English, Japanese, and Russian are the official languages of Gandoor, per the constitution

Does your people speak multiple languages?
Many can - 60% reporting speaking both English and Japanese fluently. Fluency in Russian and other official languages, however, is significantly less common, as only 29% of the population reports being able to speak Russian (compared to 79% for English and 73% for Japanese) and of that 29%, almost 60% of them live in Freena Yon, which is almost entirely Russian speaking. As a result, the percentage of Russian speakers in Gandoor who live outside Freena Yon is only about 12%. All Russian speakers outside Freena Yon can speak English in addition to Russian and about 4% can also speak Japanese.

In addition to the official languages, there is also a large Korean speaking minority (19% report fluency), along with smaller Vietnamese and Filipino minorities.

Is there an indigenous language?
There are several indigenous languages that were and are spoken by the various native peoples of Gandoor.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?
We wouldn't know, that would be subjective.

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?
All three languages would be fairly difficult to learn, although most would agree that Japanese would likely be the hardest due to having to learn katakana, hiragana, and kanji.

What is the official langauge of your nation?

-It was Irish up until 1947, however Welsh began to be spoken by more members and English was encouraged as a second language and thus a official language was revoked to foster and celebrate the traditional multilingualism of the nation. Irish however remains the most widely spoken first language.

Do your people speak multiple languages?

-Yes, bilingualism and even multilingualism is very common due to Irish, Welsh, and English being the most spoken languages in the nation. Both Irish and

Is there an indigenous language?

-No, it was unsettled (aside from a few failed colonization attempts by Norse and ancient Irish settlers). However, the Rhionnian dialect of Irish and Welsh have noted differences to their respective mother languages (comparable to Cajun French) and is technically considered indigenous.

What is the official language of your nation?

Lymonian.

Does your people speak multiple languages?

Polish, Russian, etc

Is there an indigenous language?

yes, but that changes depending on the exact region you are talking about.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?

Kräztandzen (which originates from old Lymonian, but modernized with the en) it has no exact english translation, but it means something along the lines of when you feel intoxicated as if you are drunk or high, but are merely tired.

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

it would be as hard as an anglicized German sounds. I would see it as a good stepping stone between english and german although with its own troubles.

What is the official language of your nation?
-English

Does your people speak multiple languages?
-As the NAR was under German control for 31 years, German is still widely spoken by many as both first and second languages. Because of this it remains the only language other than English to remain legal both in school and practice.

Is there an indigenous language?

Many, but they are outlawed.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?

Its very subjective and would change depending who is asked.

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

Both acceptable languages are somewhat difficult, English being the harder.

What is the official langauge of your nation?

We don't have a formal official language. Eahlisc is the common language.

Do your people speak multiple languages?

Some do, some don't. Most schools require foreign-language courses, though many students don't take them far enough to gain a useful mastery of the language, and often don't use the language often enough to retain it. Some learn foreign languages for doing business with other nations - though most foreign international businessmen speak Eahlisc with at least basic competency. Children of immigrants often speak their parents' mother tongue as well as Eahlisc. There are still households where various dialects of Afaleonene or Norþerne are the first language, though there are basically no Eahliscmenn anymore who speak those but not Eahlisc. (Not even recent immigrants from the Norþlandum. Norþmenn all speak Eahlisc; it's a required course in their schools.)

Is there an indigenous language?

Depends how you define "indigenous". The Eahlcynn were not the first folk here, but neither were the other folk who were here before us whose languages survive to this day. We know basically nothing about the folk who were the first humans in what's now Eahland... the Ærdægfolc appear to have exterminated them genetically and culturally, and no trace of their language remains. The Ærdaegfolc were in turn almost exterminated by the Afaleonene - the folk called "Ærdægfolc" historically are mostly just the Afaleonene who were enemies of the faction of Afaleonene who ended up dominant when the Columbans assimilated Avalonia into their empire. We know more about the Ærdægfolc language, but it lives only in corrupted form, mostly in place names. ("Nearubæc" means "near lake" or "narrow lake" in Eahlisc, but that's not the actual origin of the place's name. It's an Eahlisc approximation of an older Afaleonene name that just sounded sort of like that, which is believed to have derived in turn from the still-older Ærdægfolc name for the place.) The Columbans came after the Afaleonene, and though they didn't stay, they left their social structures and language as the language of law and the Cristen religion. It was after Columbe withdrew that the Eahlcynn took Avalonia and made it Eahland. And then the Norþmenn came, and occupied greater or lesser parts of Eahland for some time - and in the Norþeasterne Cynerice, which they held for something like two hundred years, and which has been largely isolated until recently, the local dialect is almost an Eahlisc/Norþerne creole. To the Norþmenn, Eahlisc could qualify as the "indigenous language".

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?

I'm fond of eaxlgestealla (as featured in our motto). It literally means "shoulder-stander", and less literally would translate as "shoulder-companion" or "brother-in-arms". It's got an eolhsecg in it, which always adds cool points and is worth 10 points in Scrabla (though, at 13 letters, you're unlikely to actually be able to play it, and only one of the other letters is worth more than a point), and a gear, which is always amusing to watch non-native speakers try to pronounce. Actually, that xlg consonant cluster in general is amusing to watch non-native speakers try to pronounce.

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

Eahlisc is a fairly difficult language to learn to speak well... it inflects nouns, pronouns, and adjectives for gender, number, and case, verbs for number, person, mood, and tense (and participles are further inflected as adjectives). There are three genders (which have little to no relation to natural gender, and often seem arbitrary to non-native speakers), five cases (one of which, the instrumental, is vestigial), three numbers (though one of them, the dual, is vestigial, still present only in the 1st and 2nd person personal pronouns), three persons, three moods (including an optative that's often difficult for non-native speakers to wrap their brains around), and two basic tenses, though it builds more using auxiliary verbs.

There are eleven different standard verb conjugations, most of which transform not just the endings but often the root, plus a couple of weird classes, and numerous irregular verbs - which includes the most commonly used ones. There are possibly as many as thirty different noun declensions, depending on how you count them. Four different adjective declensions, counting the participles, and which is used depends not on the word (as with nouns and verbs), but on how the adjective is used in the sentence.

Prepositions sometimes change meaning subtly depending whether their object is in the accusative, dative, or instrumental case (for example, be, "by", means "next to" with a dative object, but "through means of" with an instrumental object), and sometimes those cases aren't actually distinct. The most common feminine declensions use the same form for both accusative and dative singular, and the instrumental has been fully absorbed into the dative in almost all noun declensions (though the instrumental is still distinct in adjective declensions, so since adjectives are inflected to match their noun, adding an adjective to an object can, weirdly, clarify the meaning of the preposition).

There's more about Eahlisc grammar in our larboc.

Q: What is the official language of YN?
A: Cekovian and Naekarian both have official status (the latter only in Naekaria), and Spanish and English are recognized minority languages.

Q: Do your people speak multiple languages?
A: English is taught in schools along with Cekovian, and >60% of citizens are fluent in English, while >45% are fluent in Cekovian or Naekarian and two other languages.

Q: Is there an indigenous language?
A: Penguinic, the language of penguins, is the indigenous language of Cekovian. Example: ./'-',/./-=\| abrûôuebrâbrôifâ

Q: What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?
A: I think the coolest sound is the sound that the letter ð makes, which is like the in English. The coolest word using this sound might be þäððə (miffed).

Q: How hard would it be to learn your language?
A: Probably not super hard. The grammar is highly regular and most of the letters are always pronounced the same way, but you do have to remember which letter corresponds to which sound. If you know Icelandic and to a lesser extent Swedish/Norwegian, then memorizing the words will be a little bit easier because Cekovian descended from Old Norse (and Penguinic, Spanish, and Finnish).

If you're interested, here's my language factbook. It looks long, but most of it is just big transliteration tables, which are not really essential to the language.

What is the official langauge of your nation?

The Constitution names Lancovian as the sole official language of Lancov, except in Bittere where it shares official status with Bitteri.

Do your people speak multiple languages?

Yes, students are required to begin studying a foreign language in their last year of middle school. They will continue studying that same language for the three years of high school. Roughly 82% of the population is bilingual, with English and German being the most commonly studied.

Is there an indigenous language?

Lancovian is the indigenous language. No one ever conquered us.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?

Well... you'll have to learn it and decide for yourself. ;)

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

For an English speaker, pretty hard. Lancovian has three genders (male, female, and neuter) and a completely different sentence structure from English. To make things even worse, there are two alphabets being used and any language teaching program must teach both to be accredited by the Lancovian Language Academy. If you speak another Slavic language, you'll have an easier time.

Most in my nation speak two languages, Rowlf and Gnarrl-Rowlf. Gnarrl-Rowlf is considered the common language spoken spoken amongst my people. Rowlf is considered the 'Ancient Language of the Pack' and is used more ceremonially in religious rites with The Church of La Lupa's Holy Rose and amongst The Animists. The Animists are a tribe within my nation that are the keepers of our nations history as well having a religion that they say harkens back to my peoples even more primal days.

Learning the languages of other nations is also encouraged.

What is the official langauge of your nation?

The sole official language of Zendes is Zendesian, spoken by the entire population of the country.

Do your people speak multiple languages?

For the most part, no. Learning other languages is only encouraged if one plans to do business or diplomacy.
Due to Zendes' staunch nationalism, Zendesian culture and language is seen as being superior to others by many people.
It is worth noting that Zendesians can - albeit with difficulty - understand basic Kalabashi. The difference is similar
to the differences between the IRL Slavic languages which are mostly not mutually intelligible but share a host of
similarities in grammar, phones and culture.

Is there an indigenous language?

There may have been, but nearly all traces of the aboriginal islanders were wiped out by Kalabashi explorers.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?

Can't say really. Zendesian is a work in progress and its lexicon is still in development. Some words I think sound nice
to the ear are Surva (book), Soldum (roof) and Ūroporo (moon).

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

Zendesian would be a Category IV language according to the Foreign Services Institute (FSI). It would be as difficult
as learning Hindi or Georgian. The use of nine cases, gendered adjectives and nouns, and very strict word order make Zendesian
somewhat challenging for the English speaker, but perhaps easier for speakers of other languages.

What is the official langauge of your nation?

Lanomiran--a hearty mix of Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Latin, Finnish, Italian, English, and whatever the hell else they could throw in there!

Do your people speak multiple languages?

No, except for a tiny community of hipsters who felt compelled to make their town speak nothing but butchered Latin.

Is there an indigenous language?

Lanomiran is technically indigenous, seeing as how the first people to arrive on Lanoraie were mostly already speaking it in full.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language?

I don't think Lanomiran is capable of sounding cool. It just sounds horrifically cutesy (seriously--their word for "dragon" is "duweigon"). But if I had to choose, it'd probably be "tiemalo", pronounced as "tea-eh-mah-lo" meaning "harder".

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

It's probably one of the more easier languages to learn, as it was designed to be easy to learn regardless of what your native tongue is.

What is the official language of your nation? Binary

Do your people speak multiple languages? No. Most of us do not bother to install Language Packs just to talk to inferior species.

Is there an indigenous language? We are the natural inhabitants of Cybertron, so that would be Binary.

What is the coolest sounding word or sound from your language? It actually isn't from a "language," per se, but there's nothing like the rev of a Decepticon engine as we're planning a raid or some massive con.

How hard would it be to learn your nation's language?

Very, if you're a biological. It's not that Binary, in and of itself, is hard to learn - it's the fact that we speak it at several TB per second. We can communicate an entire book so fast that all a human hears is a slightly-interrupted click. Needless to say, when biologicals try to speak it, it comes across as excruciatingly slow! It also takes loads of characters for every word when printed out, and biologicals often lose their places when trying to read it.

As for us, knowing Binary is as natural as any bodily function, considering that our minds and our body-control code are both written in it. All we need to do to consciously understand it is make sure that the right code is present, and that's that.
