We're a crowned republic, with the Prince himself being a figurehead who is only retained out of tradition. It used to be quite rare that the Prince would even visit Amboda, however our current Prince (Henry I) maintains a permanent residence south of Azeri. Traditionally the Prince was one of the younger children of the Arcadian Emperor, however the Succession Act 2012 means that the crown will pass along the line of the current Prince directly. The powers of the Crown are exercised by the Governor (previously Governor-General), who is appointed to a six year term by the Prince on the advice of the popular vote. In other words, we elect a Governor who is then "appointed" by the Prince. The Governor's job is largely a ceremonial office, but s/he does exercise certain limited powers with absolute discretion. The Governor acts as a representative of the Ambodan state and guardian of the constitution.

The real power exists in the Government (the cabinet), which is a part of the legislature. We elect our legislature in a general election every three years, with the election beginning on the first Friday in March and continuing for one week. The government is made up of the Speaker (usually leader of the largest party in the House) and the Speaker's ministers who s/he appoints to run certain parts of the government. Our legislature is unicameral, with the House of Representatives having 100 full members ("Representatives") along with the Chair, who keeps order in the House. Representatives are elected by a first-past-the-post system, which has resulted in us having a two-party political system. Currently the House has a a National Democratic Party government, with the NDP having 55 Representatives to the National Liberal Party's 43 (there are also two independents).

Additionally there are several devolved states (collectively known as "the Provinces") in the north of Amboda which cover the minority nationalities of the Fahlui, the Wembebwe and the Kodikan people. These devolved administrations are seen as offering a third way between ethnic conflict and full independence for these minority groups, allowing them control over their own affairs in many things while integrating them (and their resource rich homelands) further into the wider Ambodan economy. The Provinces all have their own legislatures which mirror the setup of their national counterpart; the exact powers of each provincial government varies depending on their own devolution agreement.

esmerel is made up of seven provinces, each with their own governments. each province’s government meets often, and they send delegations to the national government which meets in the nation’s capital, lapiz point. the national government has more power than the provincial governments.

the citizens of the nation elect their chosen representatives. additionally, the highest members of government act mostly on the citizens’ ideas, however they are not elected and instead appointed by the state. the current president, charles richmond, has been president since the nation first gained independence in 1977 and will only be replaced upon his death in the distant future or under resignation.
