My nation's government is complicated. In ancient times it was a conglomeration of seven tribes of dragons, each ruled by a queen, and a sister or daughter of the queen could initiate a Royal Challenge, which was a fight to the death. Whoever survived was the new queen. For the SandWing tribe, the Eye of Onyx was also incorporated, which was an animus-touched object that would kill any unworthy challenger. Now, however, there is a President, and it rotates which tribe the president is on. Male dragons are allowed to be president, but almost never are. That works out fine. Right now, the current president is the RainWing Pineapple, who is pretty much useless. Thankfully, the Assistant President River is much more competent. She is actually descended from the ancient SeaWing royal family, and calls herself Princess River as a nickname, not an official title. Whenever she has to describe her nation she just says it is "a nation of dragons," and that is the best nation you could have.

The Empress of Minoa is a ceremonial head of state that is directly elected for an indefinite term, using a two-round system like in France. It borrows many elements from a monarchy and a presidency, meaning that there is ongoing confusion over whether Minoa is a constitutional monarchy or a republic. In any case it is a parliamentary democracy, with the two houses being the Vouli and the Gerousia.

They have equal legislative powers and scrutinise each others bills like what the House of Commons and the House of Lords in the UK do (it still amounts to a bicameral system because Minoa has two chambers for their parliament). The only difference is how they are elected.

The Vouli uses direct supplementary vote for the Prime Minister for the Vouli, and First Past the Post for constituencies.

The Gerousia uses Open Single Transferable Vote (a version of proportional representation that allows independents) and the Prime Minister for the Gerousia is determined by an alliance getting an overall majority or through coalition negotiations, like in the Netherlands.
