Standard sidearm of your military and/or police?

Postby Stroulia » Sat Feb 17, 2018 12:45 pm

Simply put, what pistol or other weapon does your police force and/or military employ as the backup to their main weapon?

~~

For our military, we use the SIG-Sauer P226.

Our police use the Glock 17.

Rather than being issued a certain weapon, police officers are given an extra 5,000 Sand Dollars a year to spend on weapons (lethal and nonlethal), and other year. After buying a pistol, the remainer of that money is spent on nonlethal weapons like tazers, and on training (both tactical and psychological, to defuse tense situations). Glocks are very popular, however.

As the military is fairly small and made up of many tactical experts, military members can basically request any weapon they need, and they will quickly get it.

Military and police have to buy their own sidearm. Firearms are incredibly cheap in Whuossau, so this isn't generally a problem. Revolvers and weapons that do well in prolonged, harsh conditions are popular.

A knife! It's the backup to the fork they carry otherwise. Treadwellia's police are, like the overwhelming majority of the populace, quite, quite portly, as are the criminals they occasionally have to chase. . . rather slowly, of course, on both sides.

The HK-45, with an extended magazine, to give it 13 rounds.

It's pretty awesome, has soft recoil due to the recoil buffer, a lot of accessories like lasers and suppressors designed for it, and a higher magazine capacity than say, the 1911. It also has soft enough recoil to be comparable to a .40 S&W, and is only slightly higher than a 9mm. It is widely used by police ad military, although police can purchase an additional side arm if they want. Every cop typically carries at least 6 magazines, 1 in the gun and 5 in the side pouches, for a total of 78 rounds, and can carry more if they desire. Most cops also carry at least two flashbangs and tear gas/pepper spray grenades, although it's not a sidearm per say.

The weapon is seen as a sign of comradery, and a symbol that represents two things, the first being protection as police use it, as all of our military double as police, so it's a symbol of being a guardian. The second being that in most country's only officers use handguns, and so with everyone having one they're all considered on an equal plane rather than one above the other. The gun really only sees use primarily with the police, but in the military it's seen as a symbol of pride, even if it adds like 2-5 pounds to the overall weight of the gear while being used only in specific niche scenarios (although it is quite useful in CQB and it has a suppressor, which makes it good for stealth operations). These is also why a titanium knife is also issued, even though knife combat is exceedingly rare on the battlefield and titanium is an only okay material to make a knife out of (but due to the island nature of Manoka, is very salt-water corrosion resistant, and so actually practical).

The Enforcer brand of handblasters represents various models that have been the standard issue with the Imperium's armed forces and security services for the last century.

A handblaster is essentially an oversized autocannon-caliber pistol using inert induced-plasma propellant and designed expressly for use with powered armor. In the hands of an unarmored user, the weapon will indeed more resemble a blocky submachinegun rather than a pistol, requiring both arms to wield, and the massive recoil will downright make it impractical to handle for an unaugmented user. Enforcer blasters in particular come with an integrated multipurpose smoothbore launcher capable of firing grenades, flares or shot shells.

The most common model of Enforcer (depicted above) is the Mk.560 Legatus-pattern and it's variants. Using a 20x35mm electrically triggered induced-plasma rounds, the Mk.560 is an imposing weapon with a punch to match. An armor-piercing slug fired at maximum power can breach up to three inches of hardened steel at 50 meters, making it far superior to any conventional firearm. That being said, the Enforcer is still only a back-up weapon, deemed useful only in close encounters and emergencies.

As is typical for induced-plasma propellant arms, it's muzzle velocity can be considerably varied simply by adjusting the power output of the electrical trigger - contrary to explosive propellants which burn at a fixed rate, the inert plasma propellant's maximum expansion rate is only limited by the energy input that vaporizes it - and, obviously, by the material stress limits of the chamber and barrel. The muzzle velocity of the same type of ammunition can therefore be adjusted for different purposes and situations, though admittedly most users do not have the time or need for such fine-tuning.

Military-issue Enforcer models are generally more rugged and simplistic, trading versatility for resilience and reliability. Models carried by Urban Security, Domestic Security and Order of Judicators are more sophisticated, allowing for a variety of non-lethal munitions to be deployed. The latest generation of Enforcer handblasters, the Mk.610 series, have attempted to redefine the very concept of a handblaster, transitioning from an inert induced-plasma propellant system which functions largely like a conventional firearm except for the propellant being an electrically-vaporized inert material rather than low explosive to a purely energy-based system, firing bolts of self-contained superheated plasma. Although arguably more effective in some aspects, the new plasma-based blasters have a controversial reputation - the military dislikes them for high maintenance costs and quirkiness in the dirty battlefield environment, while security services often feel the replacement of traditional ammunition with energy bolts limits their tactical options that a more conventional system would allow.

Whatever the case, the various models of Enforcer handblaster are used throughout the Imperium's uniformed services, making it one of the most successful and widely produced line of firearms ever.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

The most common pistol used by the Zinhu National Army is the Type 54, a Chinese manufactured version of the TT-33 pistol

Image

Certain military & police officers, as well as members of the Tigers' Brigade and the Presidential Guard Brigade, are issued with the Browning Hi-Power. All Browning Hi-Powers are engraved with the message "A gift from the President"

Image

The most common firearm used by the Zinhu National Police is the aged Webley Mk VI revolver. A holdover from the colonial days. Police within the capital are known to be equipped with SIG P226 pistols, of which 2,000 were acquired through an illegal arms deal facilitated by Libya.

Other pistols used by both the police and military are variations of the TT-33 and Makarov PM, based on the country they were manufactured in.

  • Type 97 pistol: Standard-issue 9×19mm side-arm among active personnel since early 2007. Manufactured under license by the 7th Arsenal Machinery Armory. Since its commissioning, the Type 97 has effectively replaced the Makarov PM, which entered service with the Supreme Vanguard in late 1994.
  • Makarov PM: Secondary-issue 9×18mm side-arm among reserve personnel since early 2007. Manufactured under license by the 7th Arsenal Machinery Armory. From late 1994 until early 2007, it was the standard side-arm of the Supreme Vanguard until being replaced by the Type 97 pistol.
  • MP-443 Grach pistol: 9×19mm side-arm used by first-line active personnel, as well as guards units and special forces since early 2009. Manufactured under license by the 7th Arsenal Machinery Armory.
  • Type 87-200 pistol: 9×19mm side-arm used by first-line active personnel, as well as guards units and special forces since late 2012. Manufactured under license by the 7th Arsenal Machinery Armory.

Soldiers have two Mil-Spec (energy) Blasters, permanently attached to their arms. There is no issued sidearm, as it is believed that if someone manages to get both of these blasters off of one of our soldiers, they've probably deactivated that soldier in the process. So, the backup to a Blaster is...the other blaster.

If, somehow, a soldier ends up with no working blasters yet is still capable of fighting, he will do his best to demonstrate the power of brute hydraulically-powered force on the enemy. When things go well, this results in the enemy being mechanically pounded into scrap or pulp, whichever applies.

~~~~~~~~~~~
We have no regular police. Domestic Intelligence (DomIntel) agents typically work undercover, and they're also known for being quite MacGyverish. You never know what one of them will whip out if you manage to get the blasters off of him. There is no standard-issue sidearm. The possibilities are nearly endless since they (like all of us) are robots, and mid-level Engineering Educational Data Packs are provided to them by the government so that agents can build these weapons on their own without divulging the details to anyone. Any weapons are typically integrated into the body somehow, but kept hidden - usually by being retracted into the hands or arms - until the situation calls for them.
Most police officers, as well as the Popular Battalions, are issued the Tula Tokarev Model 1933 pistol. Some (exactly how much is disputed) of these are actually the Chinese copy, the Type 54. The Makarov PM is slowly phasing out this weapon.
Image
Many police officers in Hokkaido instead opt for the Browning Hi-Power, which was in surplus after the end of the war.
Image
Many Internal Troops are issued the select fire Stechkin APS. It comes with automatic fire mode and a stock for stability, to serve the purpose of urban and indoor combat, which the Internal Troops are expected to encounter.
Image
The Makarov PM is the standard issue sidearm of all Ezonese People’s Defence Forces branches. The weapon is built under license in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, and was originally introduced to the army in 1959. It completed full replacement of the TT-33 in military purposes by 1981.
The Van Hool Federal Police (VHFP), the largest police force in the nation and our equivalent to agencies like the Canadian RCMP or Australian AFP, uses the South African-made Vektor SP1 semi-automatic pistol as their standard issue sidearm, and have done so since 1993. The SP1 is also used as the primary sidearm of the Van Hool Defence Force (VHDF).
Image
Previously the VHFP used the SP1's predecessor, the Vektor Z-88 from 1989 to 1993. It still is in use alongside the SP1 to this day, but there is a large effort to phase it out and replace it with the SP1.
Image
When it comes to the matter of municipal police forces (as the VHFP only operate federally and as a contractor in smaller municipalities, and bigger cities have their own police forces), there is quite a bit of variation when it comes to sidearms. The most common sidearm in municipal forces is the Sig Sauer P226.
There are two main sidearms in use by the Kriegsmaschine. The first is the H&K Advanced Tactical Operations Pistol, a successor to the USP, chambered in 10x25mm Auto, and with a double-stacked magazine capable of holding 15 rounds of ammunition. This is the standard ballistic sidearm of most of the Kriegsmaschine, although some branches of the military have their ATOPs chambered in larger cartridges, such as .44 Magnum, and the Kriegsmarine replaced it with [REDACTED].
The second main sidearm in use by the Kriegsmaschine is the H&K Modular Laser Pistol 2A1, as the standard directed energy weapon sidearm. Fully charged, it can fire 50 pulses of ablative, thermal radiation in the 1000W range before needing its power source to be replaced.
Officially a Colt .45 and that's what most people have, but you're able to switch it out for another if you'd prefer--you just need to get approval first.
No official sidearm, only standard for parts, ammunition, magazine types, and general reliability testing. Sidearms aren't issued gear either and require a process for carrying and possessing such an item as their use and effectiveness is always called into question. Certain weapons have been given special privileges as items that can be purchased with a pistol allowance after approval include:
SP 008 aka the Judge
SP 028 aka the Diesel gun
SP 031
Requirements for other firearms based on approval include:
A minimum barrel length of 100mm,
A minimum capacity of 8+ rounds in a magazine or cylinder,
Chambered for either the 9x21mm Large, 6.5x25mm Pistol, or the 9x17mm Short,
Pass a vertical drop safety test from a height of roughly 10 meters,
Pass a horizontal throwing test at a velocity of more than 15m/s,
and have a sight radius of at least 70mm.
Nordic police officers are typically unarmed during patrols. However, in some major cities and in the socialist republics of Latvia and Lithuania, police officers are armed with firearms, a response to a surge in crime and political terrorism in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The standard sidearm is officially the MP-443 Grach pistol. Though this is a relatively recent addition to the police arsenal, and in many places, the old standard sidearm, the Makarov PM is still used by officers.
To the requester,
19th of February, 2018
Dear Requestor,
The New Hayesalian Military and National Police are among the only authorised users of firearms in this nation. As they are equipped in these roles to ensure the protection of themselves, colleagues, and the general public, they are equipped with world-leading technologies to ensure operational effectiveness.
The New Hayesalian Military and the New Hayesalian National Police, as well as the auxiliary police forces the National Nuclear Police and tactical units of the New Hayesalian Customs Service, rely on variations of the Model 9 pistol as part of their equipment.
The Model 9 is an Amastoli-designed, New Hayesalian-built weapon generally firing a .45 ACP or 9mm round. There are four variants including the Combat, Tactical, Defender, and Enforcer models. Images of these firearms are available at this link.
The Model 9C (Combat) pistol is used by the New Hayesalian Military as a standard-issue sidearm. It is designed as a full-size, military-grade weapon. It is generally issued in a 9mm calibre.
The Model 9E (Enforcer) is a full-featured, comfortable, compact pistol designed with law enforcement as a key client. It is also issued to tactical units of the New Hayesalian Customs Service and to firearms-equipped commands of the New Hayesalian National Police - NHNP officers are generally not equipped with firearms on patrol duty.
The Model 9T (Tactical) is designed to equip those units who need a full size full featured pistol for special applications. Threaded barrel, and thread protector are standard on this firearm. While not standard issue, they are used by special units of the New Hayesalian Military and National Police.
The Model 9D (Defender) is a sub-compact variant and is issued to special units of the New Hayesalian National Police, most particularly plain-clothed officers of the Royal Montmarian Guard.
I trust this information to be of use to you. Please do not hesitate to contact the FOI Office for any future enquiries.
The standard sidearm of all branches of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces is the Minebea P9 Pistol, a license-made version of the SIG P220, designed to meet Japanese specifications.
Image
As of the Police Standardisation Act of 2017, the Minebea P9 is also the standard sidearm of the National Police Agency, replacing the varying sidearms of each local police department. Full replacement is planned for 2019, so models like the Nambu M60, Beretta M9, and the Colt M1911 are still in use.
However, many soldiers show a preference for the ruggedness of the older Rast & Gasser M1898 revolver, which was replaced by the M1912 but remains in limited service.
