  • KCC (Christian Democracy for Cekoviu) is center-right economically, very globalist, and socially conservative to liberal
  • TSL (The Socialist Party) is left-wing economically, globalist, and socially liberal
  • The LSL (Party for Equality and Liberty) is center-right economically, mildly globalist, and socially liberal
  • LPK (Freedom and Prosperity) is right-wing economically, nationalist, and socially conservative
  • The SC (Social Democrats) are center-left economically, somewhat nationalist to somewhat globalist, and socially liberal
  • FSC (Leftists and Socialists of Cekoviu) is far-left economically, anarchist/extremely libertarian, and socially "butt out"
  • The JLB (Green Party for Life) is left-wing to centrist economically, focuses on green politics, and socially liberal
  • The LL (Liberal Party) is right-wing to far-right economically, extremely libertarian, somewhat nationalist, and socially "throw leftists out of helicopters, but otherwise we're cool"
  • The NL (Penguin Party) is an honorary party bestowed upon the indigenous penguins of Cekoviu so they can make their voices heard in Parliament. There are always two MPs from the Kruşcin Reservoir (the penguins' home), and they are always from the NL. Though the penguins could theoretically vote out the NL, that won't happen until they learn how to vote.

As of the most recent mid-term elections (which, as it happens, were held a week ago), the Social Democratic Union holds the majority in both chambers of the Federal Parliament, and the President is also a social democrat.

On a state level, the Liberal-Conservative Party continues to hold the most state legislatures and Premierships.

Our Parliament has about 800 seats, though it would be unusual to have more than half that many members present on any given day. They meet in a coconut grove, so they have to bring their own lawn chairs. There is a picnic table which is usually reserved for Cabinet members.

The Speaker presides over sessions of Parliament. He/she gives the "floor" to members who want to speak. (It's usually a good idea to let him/her know ahead of time because it can be difficult to get his/her attention in a crowd of several hundred.) The Speaker gives a carved "war club" to the member who has the floor, denoting the right to speak. Order is kept by the Sergeant-at-Arms who is, of course, unarmed.

The two largest parties are the Socialists and Communists. The balance between them shifts frequently due to by-elections. There are also many minor parties such as the Social Democrats, the Democratic Socialists, the Marxist-Leninists, the Maoists, the Green party, etc. The Cabinet is usually made up of members of the major parties.

The Charellian legislature is divided into two houses, the National Council and Council of State.

National Council (out of 450) 212

United Liberal Party (ULP) - 227

Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) - 108

Federation Party (FP) - 104

Moral Alliance Party (MAP) - 6

Nationalist Party - 5
Council of State (out of 37)

ULP - 17

DSP - 8

FP - 12

The United Liberal Party is center left, tending to be fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. The Democratic Socialist Party is economically and socially to the left of the ULP, while the Federation Party tends to be on the center right, generally agreeing with the ULP on economic issues, but taking a more conservative stance on immigration, the military, and the environment. The Moral Alliance Party are ardent social conservatives who support traditional economic systems, and the Nationalist Party are, as their name suggests, far-right nationalists.

The breakdown of the Federal Council before the establishment of the Tierran Empire was the following.

Image

Republic Government:

Democratic Front: 256
Libertarian Union: 174

Most Loyal Opposition:

Republican League: 187
Social Liberal Union: 97
Worker's Rights Bloc: 63
Anti-Marxist League: 52

Power tended to swing back and forth between the three largest parties. 415 seats were required to form a government.

As the Imperial Senate is required by law to be non-partisan, a more recent political breakdown is not possible at this time.

The People's Assembly is the unicameral legislature of Lancaster Island. It is responsible for passing all legislation, approving budgets, and electing the President and the Standing Committee. De jure it is the most powerful body in Lancaster Island, but de facto it acts as a rubber stamp for decisions already taken by the Socialist Party of National Liberation's (SPNL) National Executive Committee.

The composition of the People's Assembly is as follows:
Image

The Tuhapí Front and Workers' Party are not independent political parties, but factions formally allied with the ruling SPNL. Members of these parties are also SPNL members. Similarly, all People's Army of National Liberation (PANL) representatives are also SPNL members. Thus, there is no opposition representation in the People's Assembly, and all votes are unanimous as a matter of course.

The Standing Committee of the People's Assembly is a body elected by the People's Assembly, consisting of not more than 20% of its membership. It acts as Lancaster Island's cabinet. The Chairman of the Standing Committee (currently Augustus Edward Mills) serves concurrently as Lancaster Island's President.

Koem Kab's legislative body is composed of 1 person. Our glorious leader, of course. Ruled by the Koem Kab Ultra-Nationalist Party (naturally, the only party). With no elections, this will not change anytime soon.
