Dragons in Your Nation

Postby San Lumen » Tue Jan 30, 2018 9:23 am

In San Lumen Dragons are rather commonplace but they tend to keep to the hills and mountains.
There are several types of dragons and not all breathe fire. Some breathe ice. They are also immune to most forms of weaponry in addition to most magic.

Dragons prefer to be left alone and very rarely attack settlements or hurt people. They are a protected species and slaying one is strictly forbidden unless they attack a settlement.

The penalty for harming a dragon or slaying them is a very hefty fine and or jail time depending on the severity of the offense.

What's the situation in your nation? And are there any penalties for killing them?

Real, but the native population is extinct, at least in the Empire's heartlands. Beusuan dragons have been seen in Arcadia in Irkhalla, and there was an instance of an eastern dragon in Weihai some years ago. Dragons are quite real on our world, and some of the Polish flock has been making its way southward towards the heartlands. The Amber Mountains still have a dragon population as well, though we believe these to be transplants from Poland-Lithuania, as with San Lumen, dragons tend to avoid human settlements these days. The majority breathe fire, a few breathe ice, one or two are recorded of having been unable to do so. While in ages passed they were not a protected species, Imperial Law now holds the dragon to be a sacred symbol of the Empire and as such to even attempt to harm one, aside from being suicidally stupid to do so, will end up with the assailant in the stocks, at least, executed for crimes against the state, at worst.

There were dragons at some point in Tzesniya, as highlighted in many Lliyanfaeric ruins, but no hard evidence or sightings have been reported as of yet. Some even believe that Dragons evolved into some of the terrifying beasts that haunt Tzesniya today, but there is still nothing to prove that, either.

Tzesniya is a Feudal Kingdom in Southwest Anea that features many elements of Magic and Fantasy. The Current Royal House is House Geirhardursson, led by Fyyrhan The Revolutionary.

They exist, primarily in the upper hinterlands. They are solitary beings, preferring to avoid other creatures. Interesting to note is that their diet consists of inorganic matter, which is why they horde gold and treasure, as it is their prefered food. They might eat organic matter and flesh as a last resort, but animal flesh is hardly nourishing to them only needed when they are starving to death.

Hunting used to be a thing, as it was a feat of strength to slay one, the elites considered their meat to be the finest delicacy, and you would get all of their gold and treasure as spoils, but it's now banned as they're sapient creatures protected under the imperial constitution, even if they'll never interact with the realm. Dragon Hunting is treated as attempted murder and its minimum sentence is 5-10 years imprisonment.

Some lesser dragons abandoned their isolation and assimilated to the multispecies Imperial society, however this was rare, especially by choice. Dragons in our society are descendants of those who had their eggs stolen from the caverns and were raised to be serfs for the nobles who hunted their people. "Civilized" Draconic people, including lesser dragons and kobolds, make up less than 1% of the total population. The old image of monsters was an old way for hunters to justify their sport. For the past few decades, all is peaceful.

Dragons used to be hunted during the early centuries of the DGES. Their numbers have been reduced to near extinction (a few thousand) and they are no longer being targeted. Instead, any captured dragons, through the outfitting of post modern tech armor, have now been incorporated into our armed forces.

Amenrian dragons are critically endangered, because of both their low fertility and murders commited by Western barbarians to them in the past. Today, they enjoy full citizenship and rights equal to all other sentient creatures.

However, they have always been secretive and prefer to shy away in the Himalayas, the Pacific Ocean, or forests and mountains across the empire. They are very powerful and they are the best historians and elementalists in Amenria. Many seek their knowledge and wisdom, though few are deemed worthy.

Since they are sentient creatures, penalties for killing a dragon can be a life sentence, torture, and/or an execution

Dragons do not exist in Quesya as living creatures. However, there are tales of dragon-like creatures in the Deuta, the Quesyanian holy book.

It’s quite possible that Her Imperial Majesty’s government is trying to create dragons, however.

The specific physiology/traits of that define "dragons" don't exist in its entirety in the Last Stars.

The closest dragon-like creature in the Empire resides in a deep slumber underneath Archipelago of Jupidog (dog island, part of the Empire is one of my puppets too) has a body similar to that of the Eastern dragons. However, he has antlers and long, floppy ears.

It is thought that Dragons were present, apparently created or 'summoned' as living weapons, during the Wizards' War in which these lands' former Human civilization self-destructed, but that was before the Bears "awakened" into sapience; Stories also exist of draconic activity during the [somewhat later] 'Demon Empire' period.
There are no Dragons definitely known to exist in the country today, but tradition says that one is in a long sleep somewhere under a particular range of hills.

Dragons are a common sight, and some sub-species have evolved, over millennia, to become anthropomorphized. Over time, this sub-species has integrated well into society and are respected equally, given equal rights.

Dragons in the traditional sense still exist, as mentioned before, however most are not allowed entry above metropolitan skies, and are usually lured away.

In my nation specifically, there are no dragons, but a fictional nation of "gaia" exists where they are extant dinosaurs, raptors, basically modern dinosaurs, that are called dragons. The story behind that nation is that it formed from a crater by a meteorite and is below the sea level in the middle of the ocean (with raised edges keeping the water out), and thus it has a lot of weird vegetation and animals. The Raptor is basically just an unusually long chicken with teeth, or a really muscular kiwi. Sort of like a short ostrich, too.

Otherwise my country is supposed to be in the real world, but with changes to the world history (like the meteorite).
