*Zendes is a very nationalistic state, allowing foreigners to stay only temporarily and within the confines of special 'free' zones in certain ports. The greeting means "rise forever", and the response: "forever and a day". It stems from an old sailor's chant that used to motivate them during the war for independence. Oddly, it is said as a command, for nājlo is imperative.

**Pilihordaš - literally a 'water room' - is the word used for public toilets. Similarly to Roman ones, Zendesian toilets are entirely communal and, unless you're a member of the royal family, defecating whilst having a chat is not considered unusual. Private toilets - if one has one - tend to require squatting over a pit that is emptied by hand every so often... Lovely.

***Banks in the sense we know them don't yet exist in Zendes, though there are wealthier individuals who will accept deposits and make loans for a fee. As such, bank is an approximation.

^Not a fish, but certainly from the mountains. "Mountain Fish" is an Oomian plant similar to moss on Earth that grows thick in the Zendesian mountains. It is used to make a few dishes, but is most often boiled into a tea of the same name. The name for the plant actually comes from Kalabashi explorers, who upon discovering it wrote of its strong smell being similar to that of rotting fish.
