When was your nation founded?: 1989 CE
Was your nation previously part of another nation?: Yes, it was a part of a capitalist nation called Keflia
If so, what was did your particular region mean to your previous nation? (i.e. capital city, coal mining state, etc): The Iovean region of Keflia was based around Lake Iove, which was (and is) the biggest lake in the region for thousands of miles. Therefore it was a good fresh water source for Keflia, somewhat of a tourist attraction, and housed one of the biggest cities in the country (Lake Iove City) on its shore. That was the primary purpose of Iove to Keflia.
Did your nation fight to gain its independence?: No, Iove was allowed to secede in 1989 without a fight.
Was your nation founded for religious purposes?: No
How many people did your nation start out with? (You don't have to go off of what it said on your home page): The Iovean region was home to about two million people, but when Iove seceded from Keflia about 250K of them (estimated) left. So like 1.75 million or so.
How many people does your nation have now?: 15 million
What wars has your nation fought in, if any?: In 1992, Iove invaded Keflia. Iove seceded because it believe that Keflia's capitalist system was oppressive and ineffective, but the Iovean region was struggling economically without the support of the rest of Keflia, so we invaded. And, although the Iovean military struggles in many ways, it is very good at invading, especially by surprise. Iove won within three months and invaded two surrounding countries as well (Caltavia and Naardoia).
Name some of your nation's notable leaders from the past and what they did: Harion Kenatri was the founder of Iove. He was a member of the Anarcho-Communist party and was the leader in writing the Iovean Constitution which has survived to this day with few amendments.
Has your nation gone by another name in the past?: No
What sports are popular in your nation?: Football (soccer) and, to a lesser degree, basketball. Football is so popular that many clubs in the Iovean Ultimate and Penultimate Leagues are sponsored by official political parties and government departments (e.g. Department of Defense, Department of Waste Disposal, Iovean National Wildlife Preserve, etc.)
What is your nation's capital city?: Lake Iove City
What are the dominant religions in your nation?: Iove is largely secular. Christianity is still kicking with maybe 5% of the population identifying as that, and we don't have specific statistics on how many of them there are but we know there to be somewhat of an Islamic presence within Iove.
What is the most common form of entertainment in your nation?: Movies and books are popular, as is watching sports.
Does your nation favor economy or environment?: Environment, primarily

When was your nation founded?: It gained self-governance as a British dominion in 1931 and became a republic on the 1st January 1968 following a referendum on 5th September 1967.
Was your nation previously part of another nation?: Yes. It was originally a Danish possession, but was ceded to Britain in 1814.
If so, what was did your particular region mean to your previous nation? (i.e. capital city, coal mining state, etc): It was an important stop-off point for ships making the journey around the Cape of Good Hope, and Frederickstown was an important trading post. Following the building of the Suez Canal, however, it came to be used more for agriculture and mining.
Did your nation fight to gain its independence?: No. It was let go peacefully, though there had been a growing independence movement for decades.
Was your nation founded for religious purposes?: No
How many people did your nation start out with? (You don't have to go off of what it said on your home page): The island was uninhabited when the first Danish settlers arrived.
How many people does your nation have now?: 2.5 million
What wars has your nation fought in, if any?: World War I (as a British colony), World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Rhodesian Bush War (unofficially), the Gulf War and the War in Afghanistan.
Name some of your nation's notable leaders from the past and what they did:
Maurice Henman (Liberal, 1930-1944) - The first Prime Minister of New Bornholm after being granted dominion status, he led the country through the Great Depression and most of WWII, established many national institutions, such as the broadcasting service and the public health insurance system, and asserted New Bornholm's position as an independent state. Seen as a national hero by many New Bornholmers.
Adam Stewart Vester (National, 1959-1970, 1972-1973) - Oversaw the adoption of the current flag (in 1961) and the breakaway from the Commonwealth (in 1968). Vester was a staunch conservative and opposed ideas such as racial and gender equality. His harsh measures against the island's black minority isolated New Bornholm on the world stage, but his efforts to modernise agriculture helped keep the economy strong. Still a very controversial figure.
Finlay Campbell (SDP, 1980-1987) - The first Prime Minister from the Social Democratic Party. His government abolished all discriminatory laws and forged close relations with other African countries, whilst cutting off ties with South Africa. Campbell focused on improving the living standards of working New Bornholmers - embarking on a programme of public works in which countless new roads, houses hospitals and schools were built - while opening up the economy to foreign investment and tourism. Remembered fondly by many, particularly in the black and Asian communities.
Has your nation gone by another name in the past?: No
What sports are popular in your nation?: Rugby union, cricket, and, to a lesser extent, association football.
What is your nation's capital city?: Frederickstown
What are the dominant religions in your nation?: Protestant Christianity (almost evenly divided between Anglican and Lutheran)
What is the most common form of entertainment in your nation?: Television
Does your nation favor economy or environment?: Traditionally economy (due to the importance of coal mining), but people are becoming more aware of the need to protect the environment.
A small island republic in the South Atlantic.

When was your nation founded?
First European settlers had started to appear on the Arcadian continent (name proposed by Giovanni da Verazzano, did catch up in this world) during the 16th century, while sustainable colonies had started to emerge by 1607-08.
Starting in April 1775, the Arcadian Revolutionary war had formed the nation, eliminating any and all British presence on the continent at the time. As the formal declaration of independence went into effect on March 7th, 1776, that date is used to celebrate the Independence Day. The Arcadian Constitution was devised after the end of the war, in 1784, and voted on soon after.

Was your nation previously part of another nation?
At the onset of the Arcadian Revolutionary war, Thirteen Colonies and Canada were ruled by the British.

If so, what was did your particular region mean to your previous nation? (i.e. capital city, coal mining state, etc)
Typical colony states, basically. Some coal and iron mines here and there, fur posts, lumber mills and shipyards, tobacco and cotton plantations with slaves — typical stuff.

Did your nation fight to gain its independence?
Well yeah we did! We couldn't meet the British head-on, so we resorted to employing Fabian strategy of avoiding frontal assaults, harassing the British and denying them resupplying. Yet we were able to conduct a little foray into Canada proper.

Was your nation founded for religious purposes?
No. There were some settlers seeking religious freedom, but our revolution has more to do about taxation issues.

How many people did your nation start out with?
Around 4,5 million people of Old World descent (+ around 700,000 Natives under authority of the corresponding states) in 1790.

How many people does your nation have now?
226 million according to 1960 census, around 232 million according to 1969 estimations.

What wars has your nation fought in, if any?
Apart from the obvious Arcadian Revolutionary war, we had also fought the Mexican-Arcadian war of 1848, the Arcadian Civil war of 1858-61, the Spanish-Arcadian War of 1898, the WWI (or the Great war), taking part from May 1915 to April 1917, and possibly the WWII (which might be way too different from the one of our timeline!)

Name some of your nation's notable leaders from the past and what they did.
  • Nicole Greenwich (1785-1795), conducted the development of universal schooling with emphasis on natural sciences, contributed to the development of the metric system by French, designed a scheme of peaceful incorporation of Native tribes into the Commonwealth through, among other ways, a quasi-religious explanation of the laws of Nature (which was devised later), suggested the controversial Three-Fifths Compromise to limit the power of slave states;
  • Gerald M. Walker (1795-1805), the first male and Spruce House president, doubled the size of our country through the Louisiana Purchase;
  • Samuel Blackwall (1855-1865), had led the Commonwealth through the Arcadian Civil war, abolished slavery and granted citizenship to Natives and black people;
  • Lawrence J. Norman (1925-1935), infamously declared victory in a metaphorical ‘war on poverty’ just before October 1929;
  • Eugene H. Blomquist (1935-1945), a P³ candidate, established an economic program with some socialist measures to address the Great Depression, had led the nation through the perils of WWII;
  • Marina Farsight (1955-1965), an architect of the Open Copyright Convention and the Independent Academy;
  • Anatole Gessard (1965-present), believed that ads were getting way out of hand.

Has your nation gone by another name in the past?
Not really. There were some variations of the official name used abroad, like ‘The Arcadian Commonwealth,’ but it had eventually cemented to ‘The Commonwealth of Arcadia,’ with genitive case used whenever applicable.

What sports are popular in your nation?
define sports
A competitive physical contact game.
Football (both gridiron and association varieties are evenly popular), lacrosse (or stickball), hockey, basketball and baseball.

What is your nation's capital city?
Greenwich City, founded on the left bank of the Potomac river in 1791 and named after Nicole Greenwich, is famous for its low-rise buildings and the Trigon Plaza, housing the president's HQ, the biggest public college and (formerly) the national academy of sciences.

What are the dominant religions in your nation?
Not applicable. Around 99% of population is irreligious, with indispensable Christian heritage manifested in architecture and other forms of culture.

What is the most common form of entertainment in your nation?
Intgaming. Teams answer the same set of lateral-thinking questions given one minute for each question. Team that answers the most questions wins. Originating from a TV show, intgaming now encompasses a lot of other varieties. Revered as a national pastime and considered a sport by its fans, as buzzer-based intgaming varieties like MindClash have some sort of a physical contact, expressed in answer denial by an opposing team.
Not to mention, we have nothing against books, movies, pop music, video and board games.

Does your nation favor economy or environment?
Both, but this nation seems to be slightly green-leaning. Don't worry, it's not like we offshore dirty industries on purpose or anything!
