Is there net neutrality in YN?

Postby New Transeurasia » Mon Nov 27, 2017 1:58 pm

In New Transeurasia, all internet service providers must provide service to whatever website any of their subscribers wish to access, and cannot deny access to any websites(If any websites will be denied access, the government will deny it.)

Considering that virtually everyone has the plans for and can build a HOLO, or WARP transmitter at this point of our history, our version of Internet (WARP) is basically deprivatized (since there are no "ISPs"), free, and completely neutral at this point.

Our nation's equivalent to the RL internet, IDCS, is accessible by all citizens equally, yet is extensively monitored by government officials 24/7. Private corporations have been outlawed for decades, and all corporate affairs are comprised by the government.

There’s complete net neutrality, and any internet provider that refuses is considered a violation of the user’s right to privacy and/or free speech. It’s even in our Constitution, included in an amendment. While the government does directly monitor citizens’ internet usage, we won’t care about it unless it’s a proven threat to national security.

Our nation does not have net neutrality. Such regulations were repealed in 2015 under the Sarah Palin administration.

The network is held to be a mænelic weg ("public way"), like the roadways, railways, and waterways, and as such one of the great duties of the cynerice is to provide and maintain it. We have pervasive high-speed wireless network coverage provided free of charge by the cynerice, and, as a mænelic weg, the public network shows no special favor to anyone.

It is possible to buy premium network service from private companies, and there are no restrictions on private service providers favoring particular sites or users within their network. However, traffic originating outside the private network must be handled even-handedly. Basically, private network providers can be as unfair to their customers as their customers will tolerate, but must be fair to non-customers who don't have the choice to not use them, whether that's because the site they want to access is on a private network, or because the cynerice is leasing bandwidth on a privately-owned backbone.

As Internet access in Gandoor a public-service provided solely by the Gandoor Internet Service Corporation, which is funded by and owned by the Gandoorese government but operates mostly independently of the government, net neutrality is effectively enshrined into law. The charter establishing the GISC states that 'all traffic on the Gandoor Internet Service Corporation must be treated equally' and the High Court has ruled that the 'freedom of information', one of the Inalienable Rights in the Gandoorese Constitution applies to Internet access as well, making net neutrality the law of the land.

The net neutrality requirements for the GISC apply for any consumers using the network, whether it is via their free service or any of their various paid tiers of Internet service.

The small size of Alizeria's telecommunications market means that net neutrality is considered a non-issue.

The way that Alizeria's market is structured, most of the broadband network is owned by the Ministry of Broadcasting who do not supply directly to consumers but instead act as a wholesale supplier for internet retailers - in other words, ISPs in Alizeria don't have the kind of control over the network that could cause net neutrality to become a contentious topic.

In the mobile networks there is no net neutrality, and some providers do throttle certain services, however Alizeria's mobile networks are extremely small and not considered overall important enough for market intervention.

If ISPs were able to build competing networks causing the issue to come to the surface, most Alizerians politicians would oppose net neutrality.

The People's Republic of Zhouran effectively enforces net neutrality since everyone has the right to equal access to the internet, which itself is regarded as a public utility. Repealing net neutrality basically means that people would have to pay for packages just for access to certain websites, plus it also means that Chinese-style internet censorship would be possible and that any websites could be shut down because of that. For a benevolent authoritarian stratocracy, censorship in the Zhouranese side of the internet is not particularly common. Most websites censored in Zhouran would be those selling illegal goods such as drugs or those promoting extremism such as terrorism, marxism, and corporate free-market globalism.

In Zhouran, internet service providers (ISPs) are required to provide equal internet access for their customers. Internet services in the country are regarded to be one of the most cheapest in the world while internet speed is also one of the fastest since Zhouran's internet infrastructure mostly uses fiber optic.

Net Neutrality was legal, but the first formal law about it was passed only a day ago. It dictated that service providers and websites cannot charge its users any amount, if they don't want to risk being fined 7 million.
