Asexuality in YN

Postby Welskerland » Mon Nov 20, 2017 8:34 am

Asexuality is a sexual orientation, though some researches dispute this and say it is more of a lack of a sexual orientation, which describes a lack of sexual arousal or sexual attraction towards other people. There are many controversies regarding asexuality, such as whether or not it should be considered part of the LGBT community, whether or not it is asexuals are being discriminated against or marginalized, etc. It is regarded by some people, both within and outside the community, as the "Invisible" orientation as there isn't much of a lifestyle or traits that make asexuals stand out from the rest of society.

Supposedly, asexuality has always existed, but is becoming more visible and less obscure thanks to the Internet. It seems that asexuality is more common in females than in males, though asexual males do exist. Researchers speculate that it could be due to a social stigma where it is less acceptable for a male to not show any interest in sex than it is for a female, so many asexual men may not even realize they are asexual or do not consider as a possibility for them. Other asexual men may be aware of it, but think it makes them feel insecure about their masculinity.

Attitudes and reactions towards asexuality vary depending on the person, the society, and the culture. While asexuality has always existed, it was never illegal the way homosexuality was. However, some asexuals have mentioned being victims of "corrective rape" by people who want to fix their "condition," and a lack of acceptance from the LGBT community. Some people say there is a middle ground between discrimination and acceptance for asexuals, with alot of the "discrimination" coming from a lack of understanding from people rather than from hate or being "aphobic."

What is the legal status of asexuality in your nation?
How is it seen by the government?
How is seen by citizens and the general populace?
Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual?
Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who?

What is the legal status of asexuality in your nation? It is perfectly and completely legal in Welskerland
How is it seen by the government? The government doesn't care about what somebody chooses to identify as, and it is illegal for people t be treated differently on the basis of orientation alone.
How is seen by citizens and the general populace? Most people are indifferent to it.
Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual? There are no clear numbers, and the government does not wish to pry into the citizens' private lives, but they do exist, and there are a few asexuals in the government.
Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who? The Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Housing, and a former prime minister.

This nation does reflect my IRL views unless something is more interesting to differ from what I believe otherwise. For example, Welskerland is a constitutional monarchy, while I prefer a republic IRL.

Everyone in the DGES is technically asexual, so it is neither illegal nor held as abhorrent by the government and anyone else here. We expand our population through extreme amounts of annexations of other nations, as well as cloning processes that take place within our science labs. Famous asexuals include the Emperor of the DGES, the Great Uniter and Beast, the aide-de-camp to the Emperor, the Dragon Master, and all of our notable government officials and musicians in our official marching band, which is the band that plays our revolutionary marching music.

What is the legal status of asexuality in your nation?: Castration is one form of corporal punishment in Ul Ulo, and as asexuality would follow from this then it is considered "legal"
How is it seen by the government?: The government would not legislate on asexuality that wasn't as a result of castration.
How is seen by citizens and the general populace?: An asexual man would be viewed with extreme suspicion unless he were a shrine-keeper, and as it would prevent him passing on his legacy to others it would be considered an extremely self-harmful mental disorder. Women, once married, would not have a choice in being asexual.
Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual?: Unknown. Even the numbers of criminals castrated annually is difficult to determine.
Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who?: No.

A creature is "asexual" if it lacks a biological sex, or only has one biological sex. Many plants and all fungi are asexual. A human is incapable of reproducing by itself and must intercourse with a human of the opposite sex. Humans cannot be asexual in TurtleShroomian law, which officially considers it, in humans, to be made up.

This is compounded by the fact that TurtleShroom has a huge population of sentient mushrooms, all of which have no gender and are actually asexual.

Culturally, though, "asexual" humans are held in the absolute highest regard, for they are celibate. Celibacy is considered the ultimate and holiest religious calling and is celebrated openly in the country. As such, "asexual", celibate humans carry immense prestige and authority in TurtleShroomian society. Many humans who believe they are "asexual" enter into a monastic order.
Like the ability to resist all sexual sin and pleasure, "asexuality", if it exists as an involuntary orientation, is considered a calling from God. If someone is blessed enough to be "asexual", they should strongly consider becoming clergymen.

In medicine, TurtleShroom physicians believe that some humans simply have hormonal imbalances. Low testostorone or low estrogen removes libido and can cause a total absence of sexual attraction. As such, "asexuality" can, in theory, be treated as a medical condition. The question, though, is why any TurtleShroomer would treat the condition. It literally causes the patient to be absolutely and totally celibate.

What is the legal status of asexuality in your nation?
Legal. No Confederate-wide laws actually address it directly, but it is covered under anti-discrimination laws. Most scientists agree that it is some type of disorder, since a normal Human would obviously seek to create offspring. But because it does not seem to cause harm to the affected individual, it is fully legal and treatment isn't required.

This applies to people who just don't have feelings of sexual attraction. If they literally see themselves as asexual (Without a sex, not belonging to either gender), then the government will view them as having some type of psychological problem, and a treatment (Usually counseling) is recommended (But not specifically required, unless their views become a serious impediment to the lives of the affected individual or others).

How is it seen by the government?
The Confederate government does not have an official position on it, but some member governments view it as a psychological problem. Despite this, asexual people are not expected to submit to correctional treatments (Because the overall Confederate government does not view it as a disorder that requires treatment, except in certain situations).

How is seen by citizens and the general populace?
Most people don't really have an opinion on it, although it has obviously frustrated some people that are seeking certain partners. The general consensus seems to be that it is simply a harmless condition that some people have through no fault of their own. Unless someone feels attraction towards someone, it is usually regarded as unimportant (But perhaps interesting).

Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual?
No Confederate-wide surveys have been made for this, but extrapolations of smaller-scale ones would lead to an estimate of 0.1% - 2% of the entire population.

Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who?
No.

What is the legal status of asexuality in your nation?

Asexuality is legal by default, The New California Republic has never passed laws regarding it specifically. It would be covered under anti-discrimination laws, however, so rights are protected.

How is it seen by the government?

We don't care, we have far better things to worry about than whether someone feels the need to have sex or not.

How is seen by citizens and the general populace?

They don't care either, because they have better things to worry about than whether someone feels the need to have sex or not.

Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual?

About 10 to 20%. That figure is inflated by the significant number of A.I. citizens in the nation. However, some of them have developed sexualities during their evolution, so not all the A.I.'s are Asexual. Some A.I.'s also feel that they identify as being a certain gender, and others don't, preferring to be genderless. Some identify as Heterosexual, others as Homosexual, Bisexual, Pansexual, etc. The percentage of A.I.'s that identify as Asexual is about 50%. Of the ones that have a sexuality, about 25% of them identify as Heterosexual, 25% as Homosexual, 25% as Bisexual, and 25% as Pansexual. A.I.'s have the same rights and choices to explore their sexuality as humans do. However, since an A.I. does not have an "age" like a human does, a simple test is used to determine their equivalent human age, based on rationality etc. There have been cases where humans have been prosecuted for pursuing relationships with "underage" A.I.'s, and also cases where A.I.'s have been prosecuted for pursuing relationships with underage humans. The law is applied equally to both. But such cases are exceedingly rare.

Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who?

Several famous artists from The New California Republic have identified as Asexual. Several ZAX-series Supercomputers have also identified as Asexual.

Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual? 99.9%. It'd be 100% if it wasn't for those weird immigrants who don't get a desexualization patch upon arrival (and they usually will get one in fairly short order, too).

How is it seen by the government? The government does not have any views on asexuality, although discrimination based upon sexual orientation (or lack thereof) has been illegal since 1967.

How is seen by citizens and the general populace? The vast majority of citizens do not have any real concrete views on asexuality, although it's very unlikely to find anyone who is against it or asexuals.

Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual? It is estimated that around 3% of the population is asexual.

What is the legal status of asexuality in your nation? Legal, but we understand there are only two genders. We simply regard you as not caring about sexual activity.

How is it seen by the government? We don't care about your sexual preferences. Simple as that. There are technically laws banning discrimination against it, be we don't see it as a sexuality and more of a state of mind.

How is seen by citizens and the general populace? It's seen as quite an oddity (even more so than homosexuality, which itself is a cultural oddity), but we really don't pay attention to it. Normally, we actually encourage them to rethink it.

Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual? less than 0.32 percent, perhaps even less.

Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who? Not at all.

How is it seen by the government? No opinion.
How is seen by citizens and the general populace? Nobody really cares.
Approximately, what percentage of the national population identifies as asexual? By birth? Likely around 2% or 3%. Of course, some other folks may choose to be for whatever reason.
Are there, or have there been any notable or famous individuals in your nation who identify as asexual? If so, who? None to our knowledge.
